Post a before and after of your art being ruined by yourself, for the glory. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece, but I've got the need to see some effort thrown away, and laugh about it.
Self-bump.

So far I've picked up the sketchbooks of Sienkiewicz, Terada, and Kim Jung Gi. Are there any other artists with elite-tier sketchbooks out there?

Not this meme again please.
there's plenty of wonderful artists out there, it all depends on what youre interested in
i got cory loftis's new art book and it's quite nice. nothing life changing but pretty great
I don't know if this is the right place to ask and it is a very silly question but;
are these white spaces there beacause the artist wanted to frame it this way or is there another reason?
another example
>>2448259
Yeah I'm pretty sure the white space is there because of the frame of the original painting. Since there is no round jpegs people filled the empty space with white.
>>2448259
For the circle compositions, there was a tools back in the 18th-19th century called a Claude glass which people would use to paint from. It was basically just a mirror, but allowed you to frame a landscape to paint without having to worry about too many outside details. It was mostly used for landscapes, though, so I don't know if that's the case for the portrait you posted, and definitely doesn't apply to the second picture either. It's possible the second painting was painted originally on a wall or canvas between two pillars, so that's how the shape came about.
Would you pay 1 Million for this? Retrospective one by Allan Banford
>>2446977
Looks like he took a rust texture from cgtextures and apllied random photoshop filters then printed it on canvas
...Disgusting. I would pay the price of the canvas, at best.
Yes I'll buy it
Greetings /ic/, first time poster. My girlfriend told me she was trying to draw "dexter" from some show she likes. I told her to show me, and after a lot of convincing she sent me this. What do you think? Is she hopeless? Can she even be taught? What do I say? What advice can I even give her? If we have a child will they be able to draw?
Give her the loomis.

how to kill the ego /ic/ ?
i think ego is a major, major issue with artists. at least i know that for me it is. it has always held me back, and is still, as i make tremendous effort to subdue it, holding me back massively.
here's some of the effects ego has on your art and life:
> intimidated by other guys around your skill level
> too proud or embarassed to self promote
> too proud or embarassed to pursue clients and work on acquiring clients with the necessary drive
> 'fuck it, industry is trash anyway' attitude
> bitterness upon seeing commercially appealing but lower skilled artists succeed
> 'everyone else only made it bc they knew somebody' attitude
> if my ex googles my name and sees how much i shill my stuff they'll think i'm an embarassing failure
> initially amicable relationships with fellow artists turn sour and competitive out of insecurity and rivalry develops
> pathological fear of looking up the names of artists you once considered to be around your skill level, to avoid the potential hurt of seeing them have developed past your current skill
> or worse, to see them be financially successful despite you having developed way past their skill, but not marketed yourself properly
list goes on and one. ego is death, ego is pain.
how to kill ego
>>2448748
>mfw I was happy to share my work but /ic/ ironically helped give me a huge ego and now I won't even post on DA anymore.
Feels good.
>>2448748
Acid or 20 years of dedicated meditation 8 hours a day.
I'd rather spend that time drawing.
>>2448748
/ic/ really fucks with my confidence, I added 3 of you fucks on snapchat a few months back and I found my progress pic in a cringe thread a few weeks after.
Ever since then I just study and don't post my art anywhere.
/ic/ seems to think that when an individual posts work online that the artist believe it is amazing and that the artist must think it is perfect.
/ic/ believes people should not be allowed to post their work until it is to their standards.
It's the problem with having so many people posting anonymously but if you want to talk about /ic/ as a group they believe anyone posting anything online has stopped doing actual study and is just churning out shit art because they think its great.
when in reality the majority of people creating artwork and posting it online are studying and learning constantly.
So, at university today I got this Game Design class, now I'm supposed to make pixel art for a 2d game like "Zelda: A Link to the Past" and such.
Where do I start learning how to make art assets to a game like this?
Please help.
>>2447422
pixel art looks fucking amazing when you draw stuff normally and then shrink it down. yuo gotta be able to paint and draw well though.
>>2447422
Search for ripped resources of those games (i.e: Tilesets, sprite sets...) and try to see which elements do they have and make yours based on the shit you find.
Also, which uni do you assist?

WITHOUT MENTIONING ANY ARTIST NAMES have you ever been burned by another artist on comissions?
I used to every once in awhile commission artists that I liked and respected. 2 different artists, I paid in November and January and both have yet to send me a sketch. Both have said they are really busy and don't know when they can get to them.
>>2445739
yes, it's been well over a year on one for me. They cant afford to refund and havent finished. all i have is wips.
I don't even get why people commission digital art without it being a print. Real life art you walk past in your house everyday, what do you do with digital art? Open the JPG every once in a while then close it?
I'm using the wacom tablet for the first time in maybe years and I'm having a hard time getting things to look good. What are some good practices to get back into not looking at your hands for sketching and inking?
Consider it like an assisted blind contour exercise. You'll start getting really familiar with what hand motions create what kind of line and eventually it will be second nature.
In the meantime, try zooming in (800-100%). Stabilizers can help too, but personally, setting it too high might hurt more than help due to the lag. You don't want those stabilizers to become a crutch
>>2443374
Lines, ellipses, cubes in perspective, pretty much anything.
You just have to bite the bullet and draw, Anon; The more you do the faster you'll get used to it.
>>2443374
I can't be the only who hates this tablet, I prefer the old bamboo better
How do you get paid for a commission without revealing your real name to the client?
>inb4 noob, inb4 shitcoin
>>2443372
I know but will not say you. Lurk moar
Make a Paypal business account.
>>2443376
What a shit reason.
From your personal account you can just an invoice.
There should be an 'Send invoice' button somewhere, that takes you to a new page where there is also a 'Settings' tab.
In that tab you can put down the information you want to send with the invoice and remove your real name from it.
Just make sure you don't put anything related to porn or anything and make sure your client doesn't do that either.
That will get your account locked.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have tanoshi!

Clipstudio is on sale and I was thinking about getting it, but I'm poor as hell and I was wondering... Is the DRM a hassle to circumvent? What am I gaining by getting a legit license? Sorry for being a scumbucket.
>>2446352
>What am I gaining by getting a legit license?
The ability to use the program legally with full functionality and updates
If you don't want to pay for it, then don't. You could easily pirate Manga Studio 5 EX, which is pretty much the same thing but older

You can feel like a honest man who supports developers.
That's it.
Can't you ask someone to lend you twenty bucks? I've never seen CSP this low.
What are some artists that use crazy colors like this?
All I can think of is Jojo and the main influence he used. Is there a name for this?
Source?
Some comic called NIMA. They only got one day left for funding. Art is really nice.
