so I've never really been part of any arts communities , and I have heard you can get into a lot of hot water because there are no set rules.
I'd just like to get everyone's two cents on this

I make spray-paint stencils, and I'm not really sure to what extent I should credit my sources
>always and for everything anon
but it gets grey in my head at least pretty quickly

if I make a stencil of a photo, is that stencil a copy of the photo; or a derivative work?
does the medium of the original stock make any difference? (if it was another stencil surely I would just be stealing it, but what if it was a print, or a photo?)
if I combine a number of images together, does it become my art or have I simply multiples the number of people I need to give credit to?
what if the stock image was not "art", but for informative value (like a product photo)
what if the original artist was dead or lives in iceland?

if I credit someone can I use someones work if they don't want (or havn't authorised me to)?

how the hell do I credit someone in a piece of way two stories up, especially since I don't have an official catalog or website?

like I don't want people to think I'm stealing their work, or trying to claim talent that isn't mine
but at the same time my work is generally illegal, so It's a huge risk asking anyone for permission; and I'm not sure how much effort I'm expected to go to crediting people who may never see my work

what kind of beta faggot gives a fuck about giving credit?
>>

as a street artist, if someone thinks you did something really uncool you can get your work defaced all over town

for directly stolen stencils it happens pretty must straight away, the original artist gets some locals to tag all over it and they try to track you down in person

now that's about as far as you can go in terms of street art theft

but for instance if I did a stencil of a rembrandt, someone who didn't know the original might credit me with the whole composition

I'm having some trouble while studying Michael Hampton's orks. Basically, he talks about cervical, thoracic, and lumbar parts of a gesture. Okay, cool. To boot he illustrates it very well so I can understand, they're supported by primarily C curves. Alright.

But what do I do when the C of a certain part of the spine isn't visible? Like if the head is covering the neck, which is common, or if the subject is crouched and you can't see the lumbar? I could dinfer, but it doesn't mesh well with the gesture and immediately interrupts the flow.

I also have a question regarding straight lines vs cross contours to signify the waistline or a rounded, important form. Like here, where would the gesture be? Could I make it by just using cross-contours and c curves?

I'm thinking of something like this?
>>
>>2452291
At fist I didn't like this way, emphasizing the mannequinn, but I've really come to appreciate it. It gives me a clearer image of what I'm (trying) to understand, and the contruction means less chances for me to scribble around in a panic (compensating for not knowing what I'm doing).

I tried using more straights to keep from scribbling, and less curves. I realize that the mode of attack is different for every pose, but it'd be nice if I could have a basic formation. Maybe it's good to always question myself, think of another way, Idk. At the same time it keeps me stressed don whether o not I'm doing it correctly.

Regarding this method, I'm always worried bout making it too 'busy'. But when using the simple, few lines as possible method that Proko talks about, it looks a lot worse.

I'm this close to being over art for good.

Everything sounds bleak as fuck for any sort of art career. Why shouldn't I ever just draw for fun when I feel like it?

No fortune. No fame. Just grueling hours of work in uninspired environments as another faceless grunt.

I heard its easier to sell traditional art and you dont have to be a master, unlike with digital.
>>
>>2451448
lol no. Certainly not if you want a career that can pay the bills and where you can save up money for retirement. Digital art is where all the steady, real art related jobs are at. Plus, thanks to Patreon it's now even possible to make money if you aren't particularly good, as long as you offer something that an audience enjoys.

Sis gave me her old ipad mini 2, so I'm thinking about getting a stylus to draw on it. What does /ic/ reccomend?

>>
grab yourself this stylus

-Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus

this one will give you access to undo and redo and some basic pressure senstivity. DO NOT BOTHER with the expensive ones. they dont work.

also get your self a glove and cut out three fingers so it serves as a palm rejection. dont rely on the ipad to do this for you. its shit at it. you could even buy one for it £20 from this american company.

lastly i would recommend you that you get this guys lessons. buy one a month and work hard, you'll love after the hard trouble. i have an ipad air 2 and love it for ideation. perspectives sketches and sketching on the go

http://artstudyonline.com/rc01/courses/

MFW when all the normie fags fell for the pencil meme and dolled out £600 for something without undo redo and that basically is the same as the old one for artist

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.

Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books.

Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.
Before asking "what should I read/view/study/learn," Read the f*cking sticky, it's there for a reason: >>1579290
There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at https://www.reddit.com/comments/46sb9k/

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

How old are you?

Hi. So I've been drawing and painting for a couple of years now. I have made tons of progress so much that seeing my first works is discouraging. But lately I have been unable to draw or paint like I used to I just can't get into it and feel blocked. I want to get out of this bad spell because I am really able to create quality work now. And also because I miss the satisfaction and pleasure of doing so. This has happened in the past but now more frequently and intensely. Share your story about art blocks or advice. So art block thread?

I'm not good at constructing great posts, so I'm just gonna shoot my questions and hope some are answered. I am writing this from the perspective of someone who is drawing representational art and wants to break into the entertainment art industry.

1.) I don't care about fortune, but I want fame. How can an artist become as famous as possible, aside from having good work? What kind of influential art positions are there? What can artists do aside from producing work to benefit the industry and art in general?

2.) What do you think of pursuing writing as a secondary skill? Writing is my other passion and I love it when both art and writing is combined. Do any of you have an interest in not only writing, aside from art, but using it in conjunction with your art?

3.) What do you think of Illustration in general? A lot of people I talked to who share my art interests want to do concept art, which is cool, but I think Illustration is a lot cooler.

4.) What's the best advice you can give do someone aspiring to create art that doesn't have to do with the usual advice people give (e.g. just keep drawing, fgt). Try.

1) fame is completely unrelated to quality of work, sadly.

4) don't do it, it's a shit career and a waste of time in the long run.
>>

>1.) I don't care about fortune, but I want fame. How can an artist become as famous as possible, aside from having good work? What kind of influential art positions are there? What can artists do aside from producing work to benefit the industry and art in general?
Um, I wanna be a nice person here and assume the best, but that word choice sucks.
Now, to the meat(spin).
So, You wanna be influential. K. You wanna be famous. K.You wanna make comics. K. You like illustrating. K. You want good advice on /ic/. Not K. Luckily, I'm too busy not trying right now to draw, so you get my benevolent advice.
I'mma assume that pic isn't yours.
With that assumption in mind, I'll take a gander and say that you wanna make shit like that. Alright, in that case, I suggest you read Mien Kampf. Or the Bible, or... Really, any public domain book on the web. After that, you get to do something fun. You get to try and illustrate your favorite scene in said book. In doing that, you can work on two things at once. Illustration, and prose. As an aspiring gaijiin mangaka, I can fully appreciate your wanting to illustrate your own books/make comics. Seems reasonable. What you have to do is study. Forget about the outside world. Forget your friends. Forget food, just read and draw. Wherever you go, read and draw. Get books you have no intention of returning, read them, and doodle in the margins (I kinda hate myself for even doing this, but still.) And for the first question? Not happening. How can an artist become as famous as possible? Good marketing and public appeal. What kind of influential art positions are there? Not sure, really. My goals aren't really that lofty, I just like to draw and lie, so stories it is for me. What can artists do aside from producing work to benefit the industry and art in general? Teach. Have children. Take in assistants once you're good enough. Basically, add to the pool of potential employees and freelancers for people to hire. Good luck!
