Can we have an art school stories/feels thread?
Mine, first citique:
>qt gurl, extremely quiet and awkward
>walks in an out of room three times because she can't find a chair
>can tell she's had a bad background, teacher confirms
>thinks she must be a genius or pure shit
>she goes up the board, puts up her work
>its fucking horses
>"i like horses :3"
>worry about her, but she will pull through
>half shaved short crazy haircut girl
>puts her shit up
>as expected, feminist art
>"its a criticism of pinup art >:o "
>me: "don't you think you should make them look less like dolls then?"
>goes off for five minutes about some feminist bullshit to justify
this would have been fine except
>next day teacher and her are talking about critique
>bitch about how wrong I was for 20 minutes
>while I am directly beside them, 1 foot away (they don't mention my name)
another crit:
>some kid is somewhat openly homophobic
>gay kid draws nothing but gay porn and close ups of dicks and blowjobs the entire semester
>topkek
>hamplanet in senior studio
>uses makeup smudges as abstract painting
>some sort or commentary
>kid next to her is best figure painter in school
>hamplanet brings up the fact that they're all white women during critique
>her cronies blindly agree
>nobody can defend his work without hamplanets getting triggered
I actually like contemporary/abstract art but hers and all her cronies' were absolute shit.
>low down town local college art course
>no marketable skills taught
>nobody in the class sees anything wrong with this
>units are graded based on how far out of the box you thought rather than technical skills
>Do as little as possible in my work under the guise of "it expresses my life"
>refuse to tell anybody what I do in my life
>"yeah I just do nothing pretty much"
>I actually spend hours masturbating to furry porn and arguing about video games
>They all buy it and I pass with flying colours
You are all attending shit schools and will fail horribly at all of your goals unless you self study really fucking efficiently or can afford an atelier.
Stay strong and keep studying actual skills.
Is art in the video game industry extremely grueling and exhaustive?
My friend is a junior architect and works 60-70 hours a week. Worse or better than that?
its easy work, theres just a lot of it.

Depends entirely on what company you work for, really
The stories you hear about absurd crunching for months on end etc. - they're real, but they don't happen everywhere, so it's impossible to make sweeping statements about the industry as a whole.
>>2447834 (OP)
High barrier of entry if you're a first world citizen and a lot of work you'll do won't be the kind of stuff you like.
Chances are you will never draw your pic related and your first job might be a few background characters for a Barbie game. You'd need to be good with computers/3d software if not completely fluent.
Still, if you get in, you're working on a something with a story, you have a steady job and if you get enough ranking, you get to work with game designers to fulfill their vision and meet all the no life game programmers.

lmao no nice idea
Kill yourself
I live in Los Angeles, am 23, gave up on what i was originally doing and told my parents I want to pursue art industry career.
What's the best place to go to build a portfolio? I feel like a place of study would suit me better than just staying at home gitting gud, because my home environment isn't exactly primed for intense focus.
I know Watts Atelier is nearby, and that Art Center is in Pasadena, but I'm having trouble deciding. If I should go to an atelier, which are some other good ones? Is a BA at Art Center ideal when I already have a BA in some unrelated field? Probably not, I think.
If nothing, I'll just continue drawing at home.
Depends on what you do.
Don't take life advice from /ic/, though.
>>2444935
are you starting from zero?
i'd focus my education around concept design academy. but to maximize return of investment you want to be at a certain level before spending money on their courses.
art center really only makes sense if you are already so wealthy that a career is entirely optional.
not zero but never pursued it seriously until recently
bare fundamentals, no training, no idea about how to design a good git-gud schedule
What is a concept design academy?
Critique?
Kinda new, didn't see a main "critique" thread
First time drawing feet, not good with anime faces
I do well this thicc women, I guess?
kill yourself
Check out the drawthread or the beginner thread. They'll critique you. But the eyes and lips look very flat, it looks like you're symbol drawing. I'm not sure specifically how to advise on that other than drawing in a different style, but really consider the 3D shape and try to define that with your lines. That's probably shit advice though, I'm sorry.
>>2447777
Kek, nice quads.
>>2447784
better than killing myself. But thank you! I'll take your advice and go to that other thread aswell
>digital inking without a cintiq
stop being a cunt, if you can't do it with a regular intuos you can't do it with a cintiq

That's what the stabilizer is for bitch nigga.
>average cintiqfag
Does anyone have any good references/infographics on animals? I'm particularly looking for rodents
Is Miura one of the few actually skilled Jap comic artists? I know a lot of weebs are retarded and don't have standards, but he seems to be genuinely skilled compared to western standards.
>could there be some skilled artists in this entire country and industry????
Gee anon, maybe
>>2441474
I have a feeling this post really has the power to cause a giant shitstorm that no one will find entertaining in the end. And I don't even like anime.
Calling it
>>2441474
It's a yes / no question. So this is obviously bait.
What are some good mechanical pencilsx
Pentel GraphGear 1000 Automatic Pencil
I like the weight of it. It has a narrow sleeve so it's easy to see the point or use it accurately against a ruler, the sleeve is also retractable so less prone to breaking if you keep it into your bag. It also has a nice range of lead sizes available.
Uni Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil
>/thread
I mean, if you're just doing sketching, bic isn't a bad choice. 0.7 is a good weight to sketch in, their rubber grips are comfy, and they're dirt cheap so you dont have to worry about losing them.
I only go through my dA notifications every month or 2 or 3 (unless they're feedback). The last time I went through them, I noticed that the art from quite a few of the artists I used to love started looking just horrible. I'm looking again right now, and a good 60-70% of the artists I'm watching are now putting out art that looks terrible to me, whereas just a few months back I thought they were pretty good or great.
Has this ever happened to you guys? Something similar? Is it because most people start plateauing at a certain point? Is it a symptom of personal art growth? Is it both? Is it something else?
>>2447076
it's you who's getting better so you start noticing stuff and things
You know the answer to all these problems.
>>2447091
i know, but other people might have different takes or personal experiences that are interesting. that's what i'd like to see
What am I doing wrong ?

i hope this is bait

what resolution should i be working in?
>>2446944
dude, you can't even watch a 5 minutes long proko's video and prefer to flail helplessly and pollute /ic/ with more shitty threads?
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.
Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books.
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.
Before asking "what should I read/view/study/learn," Read the f*cking sticky, it's there for a reason: >>1579290
There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at https://www.reddit.com/comments/46sb9k/
>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Post your current drawing here and give constructive critique to others!
Please make sure your posted image is clear, downsized to around 1000 pixels wide, rotated to the correct orientation, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one.
