My monitor is shitting itself. How do I tell whether it's a broken cord, or the graphics card?
>>55775200
Not by trying another cord.

Shut up
/g/, when double quoting, why does bash not remove the backslash when escaping an exclamation mark?
Why does
"Hi\!"
expand to
Hi\!
and not
Hi!
???
history? just to fuck with people? gentoo?
Also, are there better alternatives to bash? It seems like the best standard shell, but honestly the syntax is kinda shit.
>>55775182
\ is used to include things.
for example if a path would have a space in a folder youd use \ to include the spaces to properly display it.
modern terminal emulators hide this from you though.
>>55775240
I think you don't understand my question. Here's an excerpt from the manual:
Enclosing characters in double quotes (‘"’) preserves the literal value of all characters within the quotes, with the exception of ‘$’, ‘`’, ‘\’, and, when history expansion is enabled, ‘!’. The characters ‘$’ and ‘`’ retain their special meaning within double quotes (see Shell Expansions). The backslash retains its special meaning only when followed by one of the following characters: ‘$’, ‘`’, ‘"’, ‘\’, or newline. Within double quotes, backslashes that are followed by one of these characters are removed. Backslashes preceding characters without a special meaning are left unmodified. A double quote may be quoted within double quotes by preceding it with a backslash. If enabled, history expansion will be performed unless an ‘!’ appearing in double quotes is escaped using a backslash. The backslash preceding the ‘!’ is not removed.
It's that last sentence that makes no sense.
For instance:
"Hi\"" => Hi"
while:
"Hi!-1" => touch self.txt
and:
"Hi\!-1" => Hi\!-1
It's really weird that it chooses to leave that backslash in there ONLY for !. Is this completely arbitrary? Is it to prevent interference with some other mechanism? Is it for historical raisins?
Me and my roommate have been living together for a while, found this in his stuff. Any ideas on how to see what's on it?

Got a MacBook recently. Was using Linux before I moved and haven't worried about scanning/preventing malware/viruses in a good 5-6 years.
Can I take the same approach while using OS X?
>>55775099
If you aren't retarded then you won't have any issue.
Make sure you have a current version of Common Sense AV installed.

Cool.

Can't find that on the app store xD
One of my machines has Win 7 Home Premium and that has a bullshit cap of 16 GB RAM.
I want to upgrade to 32 GB since I can get another 16 for cheap, not that I really need that much but fuck it.
Now I have four options:
A) Free upgrade to Win 10 botnet cancer
B) Spend gorillion bucks on a new legit Win 7 Pro key
C) Gamble 15 bucks on a Win 7 Pro "refurbished" aka used key
D) Stick with 16 GB
Fifth option for meme enthusiasts
E) InStallman Gentoo lolololololololol xD
Linux isn't an option for this particular machine, I would do it if I could.
What would you do?

Do you have a link that isn't a poo-in-loo trojan?

>find this shitty show, LAS
>fat fuck and Indian Linux fanboy talk about stupid shit for an hour
>absolutelydisgusting
>look through other podcasts on the channel
>fat fuck is in every single fucking one
>find Linux Unplugged
>couple of Ubuntu devs talking a little about the shit they deal with, actually listenable
>fat fuck interrupts and goes on some autistic tirade about how Linux is the best and Mac users wish they could use it out of nowhere
Is there any decent technology podcast? I'm at my wits end after this shit.

The one were they had rms couple years ago was comedy gold. The one guy was totally unprepared for stallman telling him he hoped his proprietary game developing would fail and he should get a job in a factory.
>>55775134
>>55775134
Watching that shitshow showed me Stallman is nothing but a bitter communist, he has absolute no problem with forcing his will on other people.
I run a fairly successful couple show on CB. Anyone know what legal hurdles would I have to go over to write and host a site with the same features as Chaturbate? I want to stop paying them a 50% cut.

You mean CP isn't?
Fucking degenerate
When will we move away from raster graphics and purely to scalable vector graphics?
Am I correct in assuming that it is more of just a rendering overhead that prevents us from full adoption? Obviously pictures taken from a camera or scanned images will likely always be rasterized, but surely we can move towards full vector for computer generated graphics no?
Vectors are more CPU intensive, as I understand it, which makes it harder on hardware, in a time when the CPU power gain graph is turning into a plateau.
For that matter, the only game that's had a vector based engine in the past 20-odd years is N++, which hasn't even gotten close to recouping its development expenses.

Woah.
running into hardware limits in the witcher 3, kirita, and adobe digital editions on my gt 640.
have an fx6300 and through work connections access to cheap, quality, used 1440p screens.
would it be better to wait for the 480 and get a 144hz 1080p freesync screen with the extra cash or just get the 1070 @ 1440p
I have a nivue 144 1080p freesync. Smooth like silk or butter. That said, id prefer 1440 60hz. Not all games support above 60fps and not necessary unless you play competitively

You should go hang out with your sister/cousins instead. Don't you miss them?
>>55774933
If you're just gaming get a 1070, I do both so I'm going with a 480Nitro+ and Freesync monitor

operating systems suck
why are they hard to make? can i make one from scratch in Go or some shit?
just seems like starting from scratch would be better than building off a ton of garbage

Okay I guess
>I was only 9 years old
>I loved Stallman so much, I had all the distros and libreboot
>I pray to Stallman every night before bed, thanking him for the life I've been given
>"Stallman is love" I say; "Stallman is life"
>My dad hears me and calls me a faggot
>I know he was just jealous of my devotion for Stallman
>I called him a cunt
>He slaps me and sends me to go to sleep
>I'm crying now, and my face hurts
>I lay in bed and it's really cold
>Suddenly, a warmth is moving towards me
>It's Stallman
>I am so happy
He whispers into my ear "I'd like to interject for a moment...."
>He grabs me with his powerful neckbeard hands and puts me down onto my hands and knees
>I'm ready
>I spread my ass-cheeks for Stallman
>He penetrates my butt-hole
>It hurts so much but I do it for Stallman
>I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water
>I push against his force
>I want to please Stallman
>He interjects in a mighty monologue as he fills my butt with his love
>My dad walks in
>Stallman looks him straight in the eyes and says "He's free now."
>Stallman leaves through my window
>Stallman is love. Stallman is life.
It is not funny

>>55774738
You tried.
Lurk moar.
H1b worker here.
I make upwards of 250k.
I don't work as a developer but I am in the field.
I'm essentially "irreplaceable" at this point because of my skillset; no, I didn't go to uni here and yes I am poo-in-loo. My company, and about 10 others of the top 20 in the Bay, are more than willing to change my location to Canada or EU given that I'm dissatisfied with the green card process or my current wage. Of course, since I'm on a H1b I show no dissatisfaction, just in case.
I have children here who grew up for 15 years and attend University here.
But you guys need to understand how you, by supporting policies that lengthen the green card process, are screwing yourselves over.
>>55774692
If the annual caps of a EB2 Green Card (41,500), didn't have a country cap (ie. Every Indian who applied for a Green Card had a "current date" or somewhere near (this would amount to 20k GC a year at max, not close to the H1b amount and its an amount already factored in)), then it would mean the Indians working for shit software devfirms will have to go back.
Why? Because their companies will have 0 power over them and if they didn't sponsor green cards the Indians would never come here in the first place. Without power over employees, these shit pajeets will have to compete against you.
This pretty much applies for any company that pays less than 100k to its H1b employees.
These are the companies stealing your entry level jobs or developer jobs.
And they thrive off your nativism that tries to enforce protectionist rhetoric.
Because of nativists who are gullible enough to fall for Breitbart buzzwords, they can afford to keep more of you replaced by H1bs for unskilled laborers. The best way to literallly get rid of them is by forcing them to compete in the free market.
Trust me, I know how shit the average infosys developer is and how well they'd fare when their employer couldn't terminate them just like that.
Sure, you call to "end the entire thing", and all that will do is hurt your GDP and tax revenues (and thus your income) because the Irreplaceable H1b holders will leave to Canada and the majority of the lesser skilled individuals will get outsourced, the remaining jobs will face undue pressure due to globalization and it will be a net loss. It's also politically unfeasible because executive consular power is overriden by Congressional power for visa programs, so if Trump gets elected he will be able to do literally nothing.
In fact, if he does try anything it will be met with media backlash and what not and congress will cuck him. We're talking about the same congress that's trying to quadruple the number of these H1bs.
$10.00 has been deposited into your account.
Thanks for your hard work.
