>buy bluray rom drive and powerdvd7
>use for many years, download the security updates it needs for the blurays useless copy protection
>one day, it needs an update, but there is nothing to download
>It wants me to purchase a new copy
>I have to purchase a new version of a software I already purchased
>fuck you powerdvd
>download cracked copies
>as updates are needed get new cracked copies
>one day, new security updates, no new cracked copies
>a cracked powerdvd15 worked for a while and then stopped
>search, and search, and search
>give up
>purchase a new powerdvd
How can they do this to people?
Imagine if you purchased a car, and 5 years later one morning you go out to drive it to work and find every wheel has been clamped and the doors sealed and the manufacturer has left a note telling you you need to pay them the price of the car all over again for you to continue driving you car
>>55777413
>buy powerdvd
For what purpose?
>>55777429
to use the bluray rom drive and watch legal media
PowerDVD = scam
Is the touchscreen fad ever going to die?
Will smartphones ever go back to having actual physical buttons available instead of an exclusively touch based interface?
>>55777404
Yea, no.
Try navigating a browser without it, it's ass.
>>55777404
Why would they? you don't need buttons on a phone
Touch off of phones can fuck off though >mfw when people want to actually touch their laptop screens etc.
why the fuck?
>>55777421
There is absolutely no reason why you can't have a qwerty keyboard as well as a touchscreen, many phones have already done both and did it will, its just very very uncommon.
I'm particularly interested in minimizing my online footprint and secure e-mailing. I started to look it up, but have no leads. All I find is shitty clickbait "tips".
More specific questions I have:
- Do I make a mailserver myself, or are there secure ones?
- Is Tor kill? Last I've heard, an university could put up enough nodes to spoof the traffic. Any alternatives?

1. install gentoo.

I just bought this laptop, an Acer Aspire E 15. It has backlighting on the keys, but the thing is, is that they turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity. Acer themselves, have confirmed that it is not possible to have the backlighting on at all times.
Is there something in the registry to edit where I can have them on at all time, this is extremely annoying.
Honestly, based of this, how fucking hard could it be to implement. Acer seems extremely butt-hurt.

Why would I use the context menu to open AMD settings? What is the thought process of a Pajeet?
>>55777275

Why
is there a way to reorganize the context menu? i ask for your sake op
Just like the title says, i have been an own builder for a while and i always seem to build a solid system but then i read that some new storage is just about to drop, or some ram wither bretter latency, or some GPU with more flops, or some fanbloodytastic motherboard that can do my bloody dishes is just around the corner. Point being i know there is always some new fandangled tech just out of reach when you buy but surely there must be an ideal time to buy where price/performance technology stagnation coalesce to form a diamond pc ?
>>55777206
Damn that's one ugly bitch :(
>>55777206
Im gonna be honest with you without being a fanboy to any side.
This is among the worst times to upgrade / buy.
Why?
>Price drop on GPU isnt happening cuz NVIDIA and AMD both fucked things up in terms of production.
>Retailers price gouging and not dropping previous gen GPUs prices down
>Broadwell just entering the scene
>Zen on the horizon
>Vega on the horizon
>Volta on the horizon
>DX12 uncertainty with developers

So I'm the type of guy who'd rather g off on yesterdays tech and save a bundle. I just picked up a decent 980TI for a song because the 10xx's are in. Got a decent non-usb3.1 mobo that'll still be relevant and upgradable in a few years. You get the idea.
IMHO now's the time to get some gaming shit on the cheap.
Otherwise, if youre the type of guy who wants the absolute best at any budget, wait until Q4 16 Q1 17 if you can manage. I'm going to be building a new studio PC in march most likely.
nvidia drones will defend this
>>55777139
amd drones will defend this
>>55777139
WTF I HATE NVIDIA NOW
>>55777139
Defend what? You can't get less frames in dx12 than you do in Dx11 unless you fuck up your code really badly. The worst case scenario is that performance stays the same.
Losing performance is completely fucked up code.
sup /g/,
found this old old HP machine at goodwill today for $5 and to my surprise it's actually surprisingly snappy. is there anything i can do as far as setting it up as a media center (movies, simple game emulation, music, etc) or maybe as a server?
is this the new desktop thread
>>55777091
is it a laptop or a pc?
>>55777091
what gpu you got in there?
If I wanted to constantly take google news that came up under some key words and put it onto my own webpage which was a feed of that subject of news, how would I do it?
>>55777087
you would ask someone to do it for you

I finally started reading SICP yesterday, and using MIT/GNU Scheme, and it's really enjoyable.
This formal way of thinking about programming is unique, and I'll be so happy to add Scheme to my paradigms of thinking.
I wish I had believed in people years ago when they asked me whether I'd read SICP.

HtDP is better

What's your point?
>>55776986
That you are the enemy of freedom and privacy if you don't use both of these.
Have you upgraded to Windows 10 yet?
What hole do you live in to only have 48 hours nigger?
>>55776719
I just upgraded both my PCs from W7 and W8.1
Followed all those steps to disable as much of the shit as possible.
Overall, it seems fine.

Some of you who were helping me get into my local road signs had a certain interest so I figured I'd share the laughs. Just some Eric Andre quotes but funny on a road sign. Go ahead and shit talk you moralfags. It will please me.
