I'm introducing classes to my students today. What's a good example to use? I'm thinking cats, dogs or cars, but that's so overplayed. Give me something unique /g/

/g/entoomen who have a CS related job, do you actually use calculus in it, or is it just a meme universities make you fall for?
>>55771585
i don't but if you do something math heavy in a grad degree (something like AI or graphics programming) you will use it
>>55771585
I use it to make fun of idiot coworkers who never understood it
>do you actually use calculus in it, or is it just a meme universities make you fall for?
Yes.
How do you get work done when it takes light years to even compile X server.
>>55771240
It doesn't if you upgraded your toaster that wasn't even powerful when you bought it in 2000.
>>55771240
Gentoo installs faster than windows
>>55771255
It takes forever to compile on my 2520M CPU i gave up. Aint nobody got time for that.

>AMD has come up with another solution. Instead of adding more expensive graphics memory, why not let users add their own in the form of M.2 solid state storage?
>The Radeon Pro SSG features two PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots for adding up to 1TB of NAND flash
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/07/amd-radeon-pro-ssg-graphics-card-specs-price-release-date/
Nvidia on suicide watch.
Next generations of Radeons will have unlimited vram, with the right software you might be able to install the all the textures and shaders to the card PERMANENTLY giving you a yuuuge FPS boost.
>>55770541
>with professional driver support
this actually might be a thing then
>>55770649
Making the video cards modular might actually be the complete game changer for AMD.
>>55770678
>>55770541
Not necessarily a good thing. SSDs are for storing data, not working with data. They're still very slow compared to any form of RAM. In order to add VRAM to your GPU there would have to be some weird form of M.2 based RAM. And at that point you're just buying a Video Card without any VRAM.
No liquid cooling pls.

>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>sneaky bastards will try to convince you into believing that cheating can be evaded, it can't and you will be banned with those bastards laughing at you
>people may report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned

1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.
