/raid/ RAID general. You should always buy your hard drives in pairs and Raid 0 them to double the read/write speed. consider intel matrix raid to create a raid 1 partition for your OS and family pictures and your homemade porn you dont wanna lose after a drive failure, and a raid 0 drive for gaming. If you dont have access to matrix raid and have 2 drives, use raid 0 for performance or raid 1 for reliability, if you have 4 drives, use raid 1 on 2 disks and use as os drive, and use raid 0 on the other two for performance and install games on them. If you want reliability on all of your drives, for example, if you plan to buy 4 cheap hard drives and use them and want to be safe, use raid 10 to sacrifice space and gain ~4x theoretical speed. If you wanna stack a shitload of used disks, again, do raid 10 and enjoy your pc. for more disk space, reduced write speed and increased read speed you can do raid 50, but fuck that.

is there even any point to this any more, just buy an ssd like a normal person
>>55776976
>is there even any point to this any more, just buy an ssd like a normal person
Don't feel like buying a 3tb ssd, my 1tb ssd was $300.
My 3tb drive is slow as fuck, gonna buy another and raid 0 that shit.
>>55776976
example: 2x 250 gb ssds with raid0 will have about 2x read and write speed of a single 500gb ssd.

why use this garbage when mpc + madvr does everything better already?
and having to learn the command line for a fucking video player? why do linuxfags like purposely making things hard on themselves? do they think it makes them more 1337 or something? because it's just a waste of time.
>>55776767
SO I CAN WATCH HIGH QUALITY ANIME
>>55776767
>why use this garbage when mpc + madvr does everything better already?
Because you use macOS or Linux.
Because you've been using MPlayer-like players for ~15 years and don't want to change.
Because you're sick of popular meme filters and you want to try a video renderer that has a better grounding in signal theory.
Because you want native ICC support and high-quality color management.
Because you're sick of DirectShit and all the nightmares that come with it like codec merit and buggy abandoned subtitle renderers.
Because you're sick of installing multiple software packages to do the job of a single program.
Because you want to automate some aspect of your media player with scripts.
>and having to learn the command line for a fucking video player?
It may surprise you, but a lot of people here are already proficient with the command line and do not need to learn much to use mpv.
It's not just linuxfags either. Some of the biggest changes in Windows 10 are to improve the command-line experience (like WSL.) Not knowing the command-line makes you a novice user on any platform. You're missing out.
What's the cheapest thing I can build that will let me browse the Web, type papers, office stuff, and watch some videos? Used or new, doesn't matter.
Will a raspberry pi work?
yes, a pi should be fine. cheap and easy to setup.
or you can find a refurbished desktop for cheap on newegg or something.
>>55776581
I was planning to use the pi with a keyboard a mouse and the monitor I already have.
I cannot think of anything cheaper and I was wondering how much power does the average user than wants to do basic stuff needs.
A Pi would work if that's really all you need it for and you're sure that you won't be doing anything too hardware intensive.
Get a decent SD card for storage or use an external hard drive.
If you want it to look real nice you can even get an inexpensive case for it.

I mean I like it. It's just tedious to do for more than an hour.
I currently own a Windows Phone and love it to pieces, but I'm tempted to switch to Android just because of Pokemon Go.
