Why do YOU use Linux?
>>56206894
Server usage and because it's free as in freedom.
Because my time is too valuable to wait for windows updates to complete.
>>56206894
Because I am tech literate, and tech literate people are supposed to use Linux.
Yes, we know everything already is from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on Gearbest, AliExpress, eBay and similar sites.

ITT we post underrated tech
Netbooks
>portable, small and light
>great performance for average computer uses like web browsing, multinedia, and office.
>great battery life
>low cost
>>56206811
I used a netbook for a while.
Then I realized it combines the form factor of a laptop with the power of a phone.
>>56206837
phones don't have keyboards nor 8gb of RAM, and they don't have SSDs either, and a screen with an usable size for any sort of prolonged work...
>>56206811
i'm using this right now
it's good yeah, I just made a thread about it but autists call me baiters >>56206762
I have a good idea for a social media app
>Implying I don't know this is a cliche
However, I have no programming knowledge.
I have about 15K worth of seed money to start with; I had a consult with some people who said that the app could be done for about $3,000 by one programmer, but saying I spent up to $5,000 for the program and support I would have a fair bit left over for marketing
- What is the most cost effective way to hire programmers?
- What is the most cost effective way to build a user base? i.e. where should I advertise and what events should I go to/table at?
halp plis
>>56206790
>for about $3k by one programmer
This is only true if the programmer is able to finish his job in a month, otherwise you're looking at way more costs for development only.
>>56206790
You should give me the $15K, OP
It's better off than in your stupid hands
I've two laptop, one is very fast and reactive, other is shit. OS is the same.
>one gaming laptop, 8gb ram, strongest AMD mobile cpu 3.5gjz, very strong graphic card (hd 8970m) but no ssd. hdd at 5400
>one tablet/laptop with intel atom 1.3ghz, 2gb ram, no graphic card but sdd.
Yet, the second is BY FAR way faster, reactive.
Why are SSD so good
>>56206762
This is weak b8
I wish I could still sage
>>56206789
You can...
>HDD at 5400
man it's not even hard drives that are bad, it's that that's literally the slowest RPM consumer hard drive that can be sold anymore.
but yeah it's mostly the SSD, they're great.
Do you guys remember when Windows UIs were actually elegant and clean feeling?
Too bad it's full of every kind of insecurity under the sun, but I miss it.
desu I just have a hardcore nostalgia boner for XP
>>56206759
What linux distro/DE is designed to capture that clean feeling of WinXP running in Classic?
I miss that zippy, crisp response and minimalist layout once all the eye-candy and animations are turned off. Just curious which distros have a similar feel out of the box, or with relatively minimal tweaking.
>Windows XP
>Elegant and clean feeling
OK
>>56206807
nostalgia is a hell of a drug
I want to dual boot cyanogenmod and stock touchwiz on my galaxy s7.
How do i do it?
You simply dual boot your cyanogmod and stock your touchwiz.
>>56206575
Buy 2 galaxy s7
Its better the stock android if the phone has company developed apps that require expecific hardware. I changed from Sony stock 4.2 to CM 13 and i miss Xperia Music (Walkman)
NVIDIA shows off End-To-End Deep learning solution for driving.
NVIDIA unveils their methodology for constructing a self-driving AI. It involves End-To-End learning aka straight vision to result with no intermediary steps or guidance.

>>56206537
are the apps drawn in through KLWP or your launcher? doing it through KLWP is a bitch, but it ends up looking much better in the animations compared to ugly ass regular scrolling

Nice workshop malaysian anon.
I am really distressed by this video. Dude reviews multiple USB cables and finds they lose between 10% to 33% of the power they transmit to resistance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doMHmGatyYc
>>56206367
Where in the video did he even charge a USB device? Never. He simply calculates and compares wiring losses at 5V 2A.
Who is to say that those cables make a 10-30% decrease is the device's actual charging speed?
Good work comparing power losses, but fails horribly at demonstrating real-world implications.

Anyone have any /g/ experience on rooting a smartphone?
I'm a complete noob to rooting, been wanting to do it for a while but not at risk of bricking my phone.
I know the processes, been on decent forums. The tech speak is going over my head though, I can't seem to get answers to simple questions.
Does anyone know what apps I can delete from an android/what apps are essential.
Also any advice or experience in rooting.
>>56206344
Rooting is easy -- just flash the root zip. You can delete a lot of stuff -- see >>56206107
>>56206344
google "xda developers"

I know I can obviously delete the sony bloatware but can I delete all the google play stuff?

I'm graduating and getting my Bsc in computer engineering tomorrow, I'd feel great about it but I'm two years behind everyone else since I dropped out of highschool for 2 years due to depression.
Will employers care or will they just look at my projects/gpa?
it's not a race, but what do i know? i would be behind too by your standards.
>>56206103
Employers don't give a shit about your gpa. They don't care if you're 20 or 50. They just want somebody with practical skills.
>>56206103
They have a hard enough time finding people who can actually program and engineer shit without being handheld. They don't give a two cucks if you're 22 or 24. That's the same fucking age for all intents and purposes.
Has anyone ever fixed a fried mechanical keyboard? My old Cherry keyboard is wiped out right now. No power reception at all. Not sure how to begin fixing it, and there is very little info online because who is going to fix a keyboard in most circumstances?
My entire computer blew up during a power surge. IDC about the replaceable computer parts, but my keyboard died in the process. It's really old and I can't find a good replacement for it - I've bought a filco, das keyboard, and a Ducky all supposedly with the same cherry color switches and the feeling isn't close enough to commit to wearing it in if I don't have to.
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.
Can't you just salvage the switches?
>>56206068
>non standard layout
kys tier
>>56206068
just buy another one for like 15 bucks from cumb.de . they don't make replacement controllers, so wiring one up is your only real option if it's truly fried (a teensy costs as much as another kb)
Is this honestly the ideal seating position?
I've been trying it and my back already feels better. How do you guys deal with sitting at a desk for hours on end? It's taking a serious toll on my back and neck. Also, being a tall fag makes it even worse tbqh. Thoughts?
I work a night shift sitting in a lab for 8 hours. If I must actively use the computer, I sit like 8th grade girls do,"proper posture" or whatever. If not I sit like pic related. My back has thanked me many times
>>56206015
dunno about ideal but i sit cross legged... on the chair.
>>56206015
third one is good for lower back, but bad for upper back/neck.
