Is this honestly the ideal seating position?

I've been trying it and my back already feels better. How do you guys deal with sitting at a desk for hours on end? It's taking a serious toll on my back and neck. Also, being a tall fag makes it even worse tbqh. Thoughts?
>>
I work a night shift sitting in a lab for 8 hours. If I must actively use the computer, I sit like 8th grade girls do,"proper posture" or whatever. If not I sit like pic related. My back has thanked me many times
>>
>>56206015
dunno about ideal but i sit cross legged... on the chair.
>>

third one is good for lower back, but bad for upper back/neck.

>>
chairs are for relaxing in
stop sitting in chairs all day, you don't need to relax all day

look at the way children sit, before they are ruined by using chairs 8 hours a day
they sit on the floor

they sit indian style, they sit legs forward, they sit knees forward with their butt between their legs, they squat
they occasionally sit on chairs or tree stumps, yes, to relax, but when they are intent on playing with whatever thing they're prodding at, they are sitting in a natural position
>>
>>56207037
lifting once in a while doesn't solve your problems. you should take breaks regularly (for your health, as often as possible) to walk around a bit. nothing intense, just get yourself moving.

obviously that's not practical (unless you want to look like a hamster with a standing desk and treadmill, and i know some who do), so you find a balance between getting work done and keeping mildly active.
>>
>>56206015
Sitting like the third one feels awkward, but is definitely more stress relieving and comfortable
>>
>>56206015
In a week or 2 we will get desks witch you can change to a standing desk with a button

Why would i want to write code while standing?
>>
>>56207126
sorry i should have said "lifting once a day/several times a week". i understand that you might go to the gym regularly, rotating which muscles you're working out, etc... but the crucial bit is that we tend to load as much workout into as little time per day as possible. that's fine for building muscle, but punctuating a sedentary lifestyle with a half marathon and weightlifting regimen still leaves you with a mostly sedentary day, which is the problem
>>
>>56207126
once in a while? wut

you lift when you're not at work, I never implied that you should lift while at work

exercises like deadlifts make your back stronger, and is in general a great exercise for your posterior chain
>>
>>56207182
yeah, my brain farted; see >>56207180 for clarification.

having a solid 2 hour gym session doesn't negate being approximately immobile for 20-22 hours a day.
>>
>>56206015
>tfw you are 5'9"
I guess I was born for sitting in front of a screen allday
>>
>>56207244
can you explain what you saw that makes you think your height is relevant (let alone determines the comment you made)?
>>
>>56207196
you don't need to spend 2 hours in the gym, 1 hour is more than enough to train most of your body if you do compound exercises

lifting helps a lot, I'm curious, do you lift? because the things you say is what I usually hear people that don't lift say
>>
>>56206239
Who are you quoting?
>>
>>56207258
based on your first line, i think you're *fully* missing the point i made. i do lift, but again you're missing the point. the second half of the sentence you're honing in on is the part you need to see.
>>
>>56207258
not him, and i do lift, and you're a fucking moron if your perceive everyone against your non-points is someone that doesn't exercise

lightweights like you will fail the fad, just as dieters
habitual people don't need to preach their passing hobbies like you are
>>
I sit however I want and then I take a break
>>
i play my gaymes while running on a treadmill
>>
Sitting is for bitches
>>
>>56207319
spoken like a bitch
>>
>>56207250
Well, chairs and VESA supports heights are meant to be used by the average population.
OP said to be tall, quite sure that doesnt help
>>
>>56207196
>having a solid 2 hour gym session doesn't negate being approximately immobile for 20-22 hours a day.
What is the solution, then?
>>
Just stand up every two hours. Do some household chore or when you are at the office get some coffee and walk to some coworker and chat for a bit. Its important to keep your body active, even if its minimal. Like the other anon said, lifting for a bit but being sedentary for the rest of The day doesn't completely negate the negative results of sitting on your ass the entire day. However lifting is good and running is too. Doing neither is not good for your health. Get of your ass and exercise for a bit. I run two times a week and it's good for my mental health, I feel less anxious and more energetic.
>>
>>56207330
VESA just references the mounting bracket. you can get mounts that extend higher. unless the OP is like 3 standard deviations above the average (that is, ~6'10" or taller), it's unlikely that he can't find a suitable desk, chair, and monitor arm for him. these things are all made to adjust substantially to accommodate a huge range of body types.

if the OP is so tall that he's medically noteworthy, he should give us the benefit of a real number. otherwise this is like going to /trv/ and saying "I want to travel somewhere. i like to have fun. find me a fun place to travel to."
>>
>>56207293
thank you for the unnecessary hostility & the projection

>>56207272
I guess I am, everyone is different, but lifting & stretching works for me
>>
>>56207358
light activity throughout the day. and when i say light, i don't mean 10lb dumbbells. i mean you take a short ~5 minute walk every hour or 2.

that could be satisfied by an hourly reminder to get a glass of water or something. or just schedule time to check in with a co-worker and have a quick walking meeting or something (often checking in will help you both clarify what you're working on/doing, and you two can return to work more focused on your todos).

i'm really not advocating anything extreme here, and i'm certainly not advocating it *instead* of the gym. i'm just saying that a hard session at the gym every day doesn't absolve you of the negative effects of prolonged inactivity throughout the day
>>
>>56207389
remember, a social lifter is the same as a social dieter
stay weak
>>
>>56207389
my point is probably best articulated here >>56207394 but i *think* we're not incompatible in our "prescriptions". i think it's necessary for a healthy person to have a healthy diet and to get rigorous activity in, but that's solving a different problem than walking every once in a while throughout the day. both are necessary, but for different reasons.
>>
>>56207404
not him, but everyone does everything socially in some sense or another. if he sticks with it, then stop being a condescending dickhead. there are people who refuse to be active at all for some retarded reason or another. go shit on them.
>>
>>56207394
>>56207406
Getting up once an hour for a 5 minute walk every 2 hours does not sound too bad. The problem is remembering to do it... incorporating it into your lifestyle and making it a habit.
>>
>>56207404
what are you even talking about? you don't know me and are projecting crap lol

>>56207438

>>56207438
there's a gshock watch that beeps every hour. i used to have that, but a few years ago the building i was in got attacked by terrorists and while i was hiding, the watch beeped and they found me and beat me half to death. never again
>>
>>56207471
>>56207493
An alarm of some sort is a good idea. Will try that tomorrow!
>>
>>56207438
yeah, the reminder is a pain in the ass. i have a 1L bottle at my desk that i really like, so that rules out water breaks every hour for me (or i'd be pissing constantly), so i really try to make sure to use the breaks as an opportunity to check in with people about their work. and ideally to walk outside for a minute or two. i live in california where the shitty weather constitutes a few harmless clouds (really; we need rain desperately) and yet i spend 10am-5 or 6pm indoors. it's really quite frustrating.

part of the challenge is balancing getting people to walk and talk and resisting the social pressure to walk to a nearby coffee shop and buy coffee or something (as people are wont to do). i think it took a bit of time for people to acclimate to the fact that i just like to avoid being sedentary all day and that my going on frequent walks (and talking to people without really going anywhere) is just a quirk stemming from that.

if you don't want a band (they're great; i have a fitbit which does this silent vibrating thing so it's noticeable but not obnoxious), then that's totally fine. there are a number of apps that literally exist to remind you to drink water, and you can set the notifications to not be incredibly annoying for any officemates or for you.

i don't use these apps myself, but i've heard they work for you if you need a reminder/motivator
>>
>>56206015
Either that or dont use the back support at all...

As soon as you use the back support all of your weight is supported by your back bone instead of back muscles.

so if you use the back support it needs to be at an low enough angle.

wew sounds like you also run a "motivational blog"

if you lift regularly and do back exercises you can just work 8 hours straight on a chair

but you wouldn't know that unless you lift

I've replaced water bottles by a glass / mug. This forces me to get up (but more or less when I want it, no annoying interruptions). I initially did it because I drank too much water.

Also, I use rsibreak, but it only annoys me if I haven't took a pause by myself, since it monitors inactivity.
