>I generally do not connect to web sites from my own machine, aside from a few sites I have some special relationship with. I fetch web pages from other sites by sending mail to a program (see git://git.gnu.org/womb/hacks.git) that fetches them, much like wget, and then mails them back to me. Then I look at them using a web browser, unless it is easy to see the text in the HTML page directly. I usually try lynx first, then a graphical browser if the page needs it (but I make sure I have no net connection, so that it won't fetch anything else).

He went full freedom for our proprietary sins. Ruined himself so we can pick and choose the best of what he finds without going full freedom for ourselves.
He is your gnu/savior.
Recently I started learning about the Internet and its (lack of) privacy. I downloaded a few browser add ons and some other software to help me protect myself better. An example of the measures I am taking is PeerBlock, which blocks known bad computers from accessing my computer.
Now what I do not understand: how do these computers access my PC? How do they know my IP? Also, WHY do they access my PC? What information can they gather?
I know this post proves I am tech illiterate, but I am trying to broaden my knowledge on these subjects, so please be nice.
p-pls respond ;_;
>>56494965
[dumbed down explanation]
They know your IP because it's the address that you need in order to receive/send anything online. ~
You can hide yourself through proxies, creating layers that are really hard to break in, hiding yourself.
They gather anything, really. Your OS uses telemetry and your searches or location status are valuable data for big companies sell you shit.
Check out VPN stuff, TOR, and use OpenSource software that is tested by massive userbases.
This is REALLY dumbed down, search and look for more info.

How do we fix Nvidia's gimping of older cards?

YOU don't fix anything, ever, low life gamer.
I'm not sure to understand...
Is this graph telling me that my 7950 has better performance, in Fallout 4, than a 980ti ?

Last thread died. Post your guts.
Just got a Define r5 and a GTX 1080, pretty nice so far
Every guts thread dies, always.
It's the same 10-15 people posting.
It's the same critiques, none of which ever get fixed by the people being critiqued and once those 10 get buttmad, the thread dies.
who needs a GPU if all you do is program? :^)

Actually i wanted to find hd530 and 1440p monitor user here. Tell me, how is your performance in everyday browsing? Asking because i'm not interested in games but i don't want integrated to lag on me.
>shut down is not the same as restart
what did they mean by this
>>56494159
in W8 and W10 microsoft changed shut down to essentially be hibernate unless you turn it off, which you should if you're running an SSD as it'd kill it on the write cycles.
>>56494204
Happened to me with HP software as well in 7. Chose restart later and just shut down. Next time I opened it it still asked me to restart.
because in restart some temporary data can still be kept because the machine still powers the ram, likely the drives need something here to make it run correctly
Pic related.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10663/analyzing-sonys-playstation-4-pro-announcement
>The PS4 has previously been described as using a GCN 1.1-era shader core, so it’s not impossible that it simply uses a larger version of such core (as opposed to Polaris’s GCN 4) to ensure compatibility. Essentially Sony & AMD’s options run the gamut from a truly updated PS4 SoC to a Polaris 10 stuffed into an SoC, and depending on Sony’s technical needs, both options would be valid.
Not even a Poolaris GPU, GCN 1.1 aka Hawaii HOUSEFIRES
>>56493995
Except that's bullshit. We already know that it uses a Polaris 10 GPU with 36 compute units, identical to the RX 480. No GCN 1.1 GPU with 36 CUs exists, and the idea that AMD went back to design a whole new GPU based on old tech when they have a new one with the exact same specs ready to go is asinine. Not to mention that a GCN 1.1 GPU with 36 CUs wouldn't even come close to the type of performance the PS4 Pro has. The 7970 has 32 CUs and is way off. Another 4 wouldn't help at all. Whereas the 4.2TFs of performance that Sony have confirmed matches perfectly with an unclocked RX 480, i.e. what it actually fucking is.
Another tech-illiterate writer from a curry site looking for clicks.
>>56494143
>This means that Sony can equally pick and choose which parts of the GPU they want to update, which is important given the forward compatibility mandate of the PS4 Pro. Adopting features from Polaris does not mean that this is a full Polaris GPU.
Obvious, a clueless cunt like you don't even READ
>>56494173
Except that's FUCKING BULLSHIT from a tech-illiterate piece of garbage who doesn't understand how GPUs are designed or work. The fact that you're buying into it exposes you as one too.
>Campus blocks using VPNs
Just find a vpn provider that uses a different technology?
set your VPN to listen on an unblocked port, like 443
>Campus with a campus-wide Wi-Fi network doesn't have free hotspots and is utilized only by the personnel (mostly via cat5 plugged in switch racks used to connect wireless APs though)

you've been shekel'd again /g/
>>56493938
Is there a reason why monitor manufacturers can't support both?
>>56495019
You'd need multiple scalers so the cost goes up. And there's not much demand. Plus Nvidia would probably not license their tech for such a monitor.
>>56493938
Tbh I'd gladly use a freesync monitor with nvidia. It doesn't cost extra.

How did you guys become so knowledgeable with computer components and building a rig? I've only built one and had to follow instructions all throughout, outside of this I have no idea what components are better than others, how to install water cooling or LED strips for example, good cable management and so on and so forth.
I want to be more tech savvy, but where do you even begin? All I could think of is building multiple PCs.
>>56493871
It's like playing with legos. First you use the instruction manual and then you just make whatever you want.
>>56493905
It's like lego if a single piece of lego was ridiculously expensive and could break if you put it together incorrectly. And afterward you have to lie and hope for a warranty replacement a week later.
>>56493992
Then don't be a fucking idiot and break parts
So Krita 3.0 finally released on 5/31/2016, why are we not talking about this? From 2.9, they redid alot of the code and improved builds, especially on linux
