Dear Anons. . . .
Not sure if any of you will believe the story but. . . . .
My step farther passed a way a few days ago, and we would like to access his computer to sort out his ebay dealings and other odd things,
problem : we need to pass his account password on windows 10, the bios is inaccessible, we have no boot disk (or cant find it) and would like to avoid random software claiming to unlock accounts as taht is just asking for trouble ( said the guy who posts on 4chan for help)
The only viable option ive come across so far is copying boot files and .bat files and stuff i don't really understand.
Any help annons????
>>56497406
give it back, nigger.

What's the best Linux distro for pic related? 1.6ghz, 2GB RAM, need a distro to install over Win 7 Starter. I need it for nothing more than using LibreOffice (or similar) and regular net browsing.
Lubuntu or Xubybtu, for sure.
>>56497388
Any distro you want really. You might want to avoid gnome 3, kde or unity with that amount of ram though.
>>56497388
Debian Stable with XFCE.
Hello /g/ I am potentially conducting undergraduate research in statistical mechanics an in order to do so in need to learn the C/C++ Programming language. Does anyone know what would be the best way to do so?
read a book nigga
do you know other languages or first time programming?
Do you really need to know C/C++?
I'd recommend Python instead.
>>56497377
My professor I'm working with said no to matlab and python, he also recommended I use fortran (which is severely old). This is also my first time programming.
Am I alone in thinking that the scope of gits functionality is way too unnecessary? I need version control, not a memory minigame every time I want to push code.
Like holy shit okay the default functions are fine, pulling, pushing fetching... some work could be done in terms of better naming conventions but it's easy enough. However all hell breaks loose when it comes to rebasing, squashing commits, foxing merge conflicts and altering history, especially on projects with more than a few developers. And everyone has a different workflow with git, some people use the stash, others (me) avoid it entirely, so everyones confused whenever there's a git issue.
Don't even get me started on the git merge conflict vim, what the fuck is that LMAO. Who is realistically supposed to use that when all people want to do is have a working version control that isn't a convoluted meme?? Can we go back to SVN pls
>>56497302
I thought so too until I realized you basically only need to memorize 4 commands and you're good to go, and there are even GUIs if it's too complicated...
>>56498871
This, for everything else there's stackoverflow.
>>56498949
And why would you want a repository management system that forces you to search for answers?
Svn doesn't do this.

Where will you pirate all your shit once Trump cracks down on copyright law to bring back money to American corporations?
Nice try NSA, you're not going to trick me this time.
>>56497260
Hillary supports the TTP and TTIP
Foreign corporations will soon be able to sue US citizens for copyright infringement under those laws
Keep shilling libcuck, you deserve everything she's going to do to the Internet

m8 where do you think all the pirated shit comes from? music movies games software all primarily come from the usa, we don't see many Americans pirating Chinese movies do we?
I am relatively new to coding. I was assigned reading in my textbook for an intro to coding class and I copied down this code into visual basic and it ran fluently. Can anyone explain to me why the word "double" appears in line 7 of the code?
//This program calculates the user's pay
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
double hours, rate, pay;
//get the number of hours worked
cout << "How many hours did you work?";
cin >> hours;
//Get the hourly pay rate
cout << "How much do you get paid per hour?";
cin >> rate;
//Get pay
pay = hours * rate;
//Show pay
cout << "You have been paid:";
cout << pay << endl;
cout << "Thank you for your work" << endl;
return 0;
}
>TL;DR - what does "double" mean in the 7th line of this basic code?
shameless self bump.
>>56497197
That isn't Visual Basic. That is C++.
The `double` line is declaring 3 variables named "hours", "rate" and "pay", and `double` is the type of the variables. The type `double` is a floating point number, which means it's a number which isn't an integer and has more precision, to (approximately) store numbers with decimal places like `1.5`.
>>56497268
so having "double" in the line allows the data range when hours and rate are input and when pay is output to be much larger? including decimals.
and yeah, i know it is C++, though the program I am "Coding" in is visual basic 2012
my birthday is on the 29th /g/, and since I'm turning 25 i'm qualified to be a total manchild and ask my parents to buy me a lappy. need something good n comf.

if you will want to go out from IT, what profession you will choose?
Nice English you got there Sanjay
Hopefully, being a lonely virgin and sharing rent with my lonley virgin friends will help me save enough money to retire early and enjoy my life in the country side. I don't care about any material possessions, and all forms of escapism are going to shit anyway.

>Nice English you got there
Sorry for it!
>>56497099
nice, but not good anyway. Life should to be full of love, with virginity it is too hard.
How do we fix Nvidia's lack of async compute?
We just dont care because Nvidia is miles ahead of AMD
if youre poor just stick with your AMD card, no shame in that, you can save up and buy a Nvidia whenever you need performance. But please stop spreading bullshit nobody cares about.
>>56497033
By making it actually useful instead of desperate AMD marketing buzzword. Then Nvidia will actually spend resources on it
>>56497275
>Miles ahead
>Doesn't even have async
Lol sire thing kiddo
How are some of you fags so poor that you cant afford a good PC? Im minimum wage and still managed to save up for a good build with an i5 and a 1060, no need for AMD or any of that shit.
AMDfags buy out of the delusion theyre supporting the "good guy"
>>56497378
and because they support open source! (while really their linux drivers are the worst)
>>56496982
I have a good PC too, but the US minimum wage is 3 times (or more) higher than the _average_ wage in a bunch of countries
Also most AMDudes are unemployed.
Did I just goof'ed /g/ or did OP did guuud for once?
Those chairs are shit mate.
I'm usually against the "he fell for the X meme" thing.
But you literally fell for the racing chair meme.
>>56496842
Hahaha OP I'm so fucking sorry.
This is one time I hope you're making a bait thread and didn't really it that.
>>56496842
Is this a good chair or is it all a big meme?
>SSD is a meme
This is a $70 Crucial 275gb in a Thinkpad T420
Totally not using ANY sort of caching for that /s
Considering the SATA interface of the laptop in question maxes out at ~600-700MB/s you're obviously using the RAM as a cache as that's the only thing with the bandwidth for those speeds on that laptop.
>>56496868
>This somehow makes the results less impressive
Why did god hide the dinosaur bones anon?
>>56496929
It's just disingenuous, if you want to use certain programs you can set aside huge chunks of RAM to act as a cache for even a normal HDD, with crystaldiskmark only doing 1GB I could just set aside a whole GB of RAM for my HDD cache and get whatever results my RAM would get.
Does that mean my HDD is just as fast as your SSD now?
