Quickly, without checking in google, which was the phone number to connect to 4Chan when it was a BBS back in the 80´s?
Hint, it was the Indiana one.

I want to work on merging computers with brains. Like having a smartphone in your head, so basically a computer inside your head. However, I don't know what field this is and how to get a career in it. Every news site I read refers to the people working on this as "research scientists". Who are they?

Is a computer science degree enough? Is it biotech?

To be more specific, I want to work towards implanting chips inside our brains and having a port on our head. With which we plug a cable into it and transfer data to and from a computer. Eventually putting our entire brain onto a chip, that could then be transferred to another (metal?) body. This could be used for astronauts, and insurance against brain damaged victims.

I don't want to be some disposable codemonkey.

Do I have to fucking start a start-up?

neuroscience is also a must
>>
Computer Science, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering is the bare minimum. Probably add Psychology and Biochemistry in the mix as well.

And yes, you'll have to start a startup if you're going to sell that tech.

Oh, and research scientists are a team, with each person specializing in a field.

When I was younger I heard that it was easy to crack a wifi spot with a wep key, is it still possible with the actual keys ? (wpa or something like that) ?

WEP is piss easy.
WPA takes more research and planning for hacking, or a supercomputer for cracking.

If they weren't freakishly expensive and out of production I'd really like to use them, even if just for the novelty. They really appeal to me.

OP here.

I do dislike that I can't run newer software (e.g. Hydrus Network, Chromium, and a couple of others), but I don't really find anything "breaking". Applications work as they should, with almost no crashes at all - those are caused by my weak computer, and not by the OS itself.

When Firefox finally drops their support on ESR, I'm going to be a bit fucked.

Guys, do you remember the Talos Workstation? Yes, that POWER8 open system. Now it has launched a crowfunding and it's hoping to raise 3.7m dollary doos. The mobo is about $4k and the complete system is $18k. What do you think?

Info and crowfunding here: https://www.crowdsupply.com/raptor-computing-systems/talos-secure-workstation

I want to see them succeed but I'm only interested in a second iteration of the base product with a smaller cost.
So they won't get any money from me at this point.

buy a thinner windows laptop, use their hard-drive. Then swap it back because it probably has better hardware too. Drop the delusion that you can use the apple OS for anything useful

What do you use to stay anonymous when watching porn?

Right now I use incognito and bookmark the videos. I also downloaded a few. Should I use a linux distro on a usb? I have veracrypt too.

Hi /g/,
I've got a question about dualbooting openSUSE and Windows…
I'd like to install openSUSE Leap 42.1 on my machine alongside Windows 10, Is there a way to do this using the Windows bootloader?
I've tried a few times but there were really 2 outcomes: SUSE hijacked the bootprocess anyway or left my PC unbootable (installed Xubuntu over SUSE to get it to boot again, then put windows back into the MBR, left xubuntu unbootable, but hey, Windows booted again)
What are the options I need to set in the SUSE installer to achieve this?
Btw: This is my current partitioning setup:
350MB Windows Boot Partition NTFS
380GB Windows Install Partition NTFS
90GB GNU/Linux Extended partition
25GB GNU/Linux Root Partition ext4
60GB GNU/Linux home Partition XFS
3GB GNU/Linux Swap Partition swap
450MB Windows Recovery Partition

Why use the windows bootloader, you ask?
Well, I really NEED windows, on a daily basis almost, so I can't afford to fuck up my bootloader because I was tinkering with it. That's why I wan't the windows bootloader to be in charge. I can't fuck it up, if I screw up my GNU/Linux, sure I'll reinstall, but windows will always remain bootable.
(Yes, I know the GNU/Linux partition doesn't completely add up to 90GB, I rounded some of the numbers)

Grub can handle Windows just fine whereas the Windows boot loader won't recognize the openSUSE installaton afaik.
>>
>>57083596
You have the following options:

1. create a designated /boot partition (a few hundred megabytes, ext2. pref. primary but modern grub will handle them just fine even if they are logical). This way even if your linux installation fucks up you still get into a working grub and not grub rescue, I'd do this.
2. install gahnoo+loonix, let it install grub, boot into windows, install easyBCD, restore windows boot record then add grub to the windows boot menu using easyBCD.
3. suicide
>>
>>57083646
I know using GRUB works, problem is just that I like to tinker with my linux install, which can lead to me fucking up my bootloader, so if I use GRUB for booting both windows and linux, and I manage to fuck it up... well, I'm screwed...
That's why I want to use the windows bootloader, so my windows will always be bootable
