Redpill me on VeraCrypt.
Someone said it was a FBI honeypot? Source?
Any good alternative for encrypted containers and full-disk encryption?
>>57090364
>Redpill
This isn't /pol/
>Someone said it was a FBI honeypot? Source?
Maybe. The problem is that its source hasn't been audited, so unless you want to spend weeks or months sifting through the source code to see if there are any backdoors, there's no reason to trust it.
VeraCrypt is a fork of TrueCrypt, whose license doesn't even allow forking. The last version of TrueCrypt did actually receive an audit, and no major vulnerabilities were found. So TrueCrypt is proven safe; VeraCrypt is not.
>Any good alternative for encrypted containers and full-disk encryption?
TrueCrypt 7.1a, which is the last version before people started producing unauthorized forks of it. There are some small vulnerabilities and other kinds of vulnerabilities that are intrinsic to any encryption platform, but any of that can be subverted with a little common sense.

Okay, thanks for the heads up.
I'm not too comfortable using a defunct encryption software though.
Any alternative to TC and VC?
>>57091802
I want to know this too. Using a software that has been dropped by devs makes me squeamish, but the lack of audit on VC is... odd.
What are Macfags doing on their computers inside coffee shops all day?

Where is the best way to learn Operating Systems?
UC Berkeley's CS162 online?
Depends, there's the MINIX book, the XINU book, the dinosaur book, and the daemon book (Design and implementation of 4.4 BSD).
What do you want it for? development? (XINU) general theory? (dinosaur book), UNIX? (4.4 BSD)
I'm not sure where the minix book is strong, maybe it's better if you want to understand linux, as minix is a strong influence

Is an idle temp of 73 degrees Celsius and a temp of 91 degrees average during gameplay a good sign that my CPU's thermal paste or fan are insufficient?
Pic is my current setup. I don't have an exhaust fan yet, so I just keep a house fan on my GPU and that stays at a good temp. It wasn't until I noticed some lag that I realized my CPU was having cooling issues.
>>57089854
>91 celsius
That's most def not normal.
Try replacing the thermal paste between your heatsink and CPU before you burn your house down.
>>57089892
Thanks!
>>57089854
>idle temp of 73 degrees Celsius
Jesus, is the heatsink even in contact with the CPU?
Why is my GTX1080 getting this hot? wow
>>57089845
WRONG PIC
Mine runs at about 80 at load
>>57089852
thats normal if referance
my oc'd GTX 980 non-referance goes up to 70-75 depending on ambient temps and what im playing.
My fairly new (February) gaming PC is fucked. Whenever I go to play a game, it just shuts itself off, and restarts. I haven't even really changed anything about the build. I did replace the stock cooler with an aftermarket one, but this problem persisted before that, so I know it's not the cause.
When I've looked into the case, I've made sure every connection is tight, the ram is secured in, everything that needs to be plugged into the PSU is plugged in. I notice my GPU feels a bit hot, so I get the feeling it's over heating and causing the restarts, but how do I know for sure, and how can I keep my GPU cooler? Why would it just start over heating without me doing anything to it or many any changes?

A lot of people keep saying that Win10 is terrible,
with vague comments and remarks
What about it is terrible anyway?
Prove to me that that OS is a fucking piece of shit, right now.

It comes with the keylogger Cortana.
It syncs your login password.
It updates whenever at wants at inconvenient times.
You have no control over what it installs on your computer.
It gives your computer a tracking ID and personalized ads.
Certainly an improvement over W7.

Sup /g/. Right now I use Linux Mint, but I would like to change distros since I keep hearing that Mint is shitty under the hood. I don't want to go to Ubuntu because I dislike Unity.
What distro should I switch to?
>>57089283
Debian
Arch or Gentoo. The other distros are pretty much useless.

What's good scripting language?
If there are more than one, what are they good for?
If I were making memeDE, what language should I use for UI programming?
Basically good ones are java python. And c for pure performance
Python and C are really the only languages you'll need for anything.
