I can't do it guys.
I can't go free because I like gaming too much.
Gaming obviously uses tons of proprietary software to make it happen.

Gaming is too fun for me on my Windows cuck machine and even if I go linux and install Wine or virtual machine, you ultimately still use proprietary through video card drivers and Direct X components.

Do you guys just not game? What do you use your computer for? Just like coding shit?

not everyone who uses linux goes full freedom
i personally /prefer/ to use free software, but will use proprietary software where there's no [suitable] alternative, such as work software and games

linux is my main OS, and i can run more than enough games on it, native, emulated, or via wine

>I can't go free because I like gaming too much.

Invest in a gaming console. Isn't that the Unix philosophy? Do one thing and do it well. No need to have your computer multitasking between personal use and gaming.

Should we force manufactures to make parts that break/deteriorate long before the device itself become obsolete to be replaceable without any special skills or training?

The general users is not expected to be able to change the battery one a mac while on any other decent laptop this is probably the easiest thing to replace.

Only possible if people collectively avoid those laptops. But this will never happen because the most people are stupid or lazy.

Btw, I fantasized that if I was a billionaire I would make the best ThinkPads in the world. The people would buy it because it lasts long and has best quality and not because their old laptop dies because it's shit and has Geplante Obsolenz. (What is it called in English?)

It's an interesting idea, make the IoT device do more of the actual sensor processing for greater distribution of the workload. Sensor can send back processed data as opposed to raw data needing to be processed.

So I have been renting servers for years. 10+.

Dedicated rental providers I used:

> Why rent a dedicated server?
It's powerful and cheap.
15-20$ can get you a few terabytes hard drive, 8-16gigs of ram, a powerful CPU, and it's yours, dedicated.

> What if the hard drive fails?
They replace it. They have to wipe it, so don't worry about that part.
But, you have to backup. Duh. You always have to backup, so, no comment on this one.
If you can tolerate a few hours downtime (who couldn't), one drive is enough.
If you don't want to bother with restoring, and you need fast restore, get a two drive machine.

> How does this work, why they are so cheap?
They hook up older office/desktop machines, and rent those out.
Used servers are also rented out the same way.

Kimsufi: Desktop machines mostly.
SYS: Desktop machines, older servers.
OVH: New servers, but OVH is costly.
Hetzner: Desktop-older servers, all mixed.
Online.net: Newer servers. Stronger, weaker, all kind.
>>
If you just want to fuck around with your very own server i can recommend http://cloudatcost.com/ .

You will get a *lifetime* worth of vps,i have my servers there for like 3 years now. They seem to be backed by a bigger network infrastructure provider (Fibernetics).

Disk IO is quite slow (1-5 MB/s) and Network IO is around 3.5mb but you still can have some fun because all plans are unmetered and you will get a *real* v4 address.

You can get 50% off each plan with 4yvYWahYzu right now
>>
> Can I install Windows
Yes, there are prepared images, but you can make one yourself. dd it to the machine in rescue, reboot, poof.

> Can I torrent/warez
Not really. Some people do, but it's got your name and all that on the server, so just rent a seedbox or a proxy.

> Speed
Kimsufi: 100mbps
SYS: 250mbps (but often 1gbps)
OVH: 1gbps
Online.net/Hetzner: 1gbps

>>57230979
I think you are in the wrong thread.
Such poor man's VPS can't really do anything.
And heck, DigitalOcean is 5$, there, you have an enterprise quality VPS.

People already have windows to play games. And for other people an OS is littetaly called windows as a game console is called Nintendo.

because for 20 years Windows was simply a desktop environment on top of DOS (up to windows ME)

by the time windows NT came around the brand recognition was so great that there was no point in rebranding
