>Symbian
I am looking for a 24" display. (23.6" is ok)
But which fucking brand?
Just spent an hour looking at dead pixel and other warranty policies, and it didn't help.
Here are the models I found:
> BenQ GL2450E
People complain about stuck, dead pixels.
> Acer K242HLbd
They say in reviews it's pure shit.
> LG 24M47VQ-P
Again, pixel problems.
> Iiyama ProLite E2482HD
They praise picture quality, but also has dead pixel problems.
> Philips 246V5LSB
Found only a few reviews, and the Philips policy is not available, didn't find it.
So far I discovered there is "Class I" and "Class II" displays. Class I should have no defect, but then all manufacturers say 5-6-7 pixels are even tolerable.
I only had one on my ThinkPad and it annoyed the fuck out of me. It ruins the display.
The story:
> bought a 22" AOC LCD
> it's been a fucking week
> still not here
> returned
>>57395227
> inb4 dead/bright/stuck pixels are OK
I had plenty of displays and they never had any pixel issues - but they are older. Back then IIRC it was not acceptable to have ANY fucked pixel, or you could return the display. Or so I remember from the page I bought it.
> inb4 additional warranty
I know you can buy "Premium warranty" at some places, but they mostly sell these for premium panels already. So, does not help much, I am looking for an affordable 24" display.
So the question is, which brand, or model?
Which has the best policy, or better, just no fucked up pixels that I would have to watch for three years or more?
... These are mostly TN panel displays.
But I could go with an IPS, spend twice as much, but the pixel thing is still there, IPS does not solve that problem.
I use a macbook pro but I'm looking at changing to linux or BSD as part of my shift to a minimalist and low-cost lifestyle (planning for kids etc)
This image shows that linux isn't unix. Does that mean I'm fucked when I try to switch? What happens to my hdd's full of anime that are stored according to apple specs?

Should work
OpenBSD and FreeBSD are easy to use.
Apple's filesystem is known to be shit though, so you may have problems transferring it anywhere, really.

What are you working on, /g/
Learning C++, so I'm slowly writing an application in gtkmm.
I only wanna kill myself a little bit.

Repost from the last thread since i didn't realize it was dying.
What is a good first language to learn?
Is C# a good first language?
What is a good compiler/IDE to use?
boldRed or bold_red?
Any reason I shouldn't just use Fedora Server for an office network's server/router? Fedora seems stable enough and it simplifies things since the clients will run on Fedora Workstation.

So I've tried a lot of linux distros, including arch, gentoo, funtoo, ubuntu, mint, mageia, slackware.
I need something that doesn't make me spend all of my time configurating, but that is configurable, and that doesn't use systemd.
What would the /g/eniuses recommend?
>>57394792
Solus.

Red Star OS
Astra Linux
Alt Linux
MCBC (russian army hardened distro, can be found on torrents)
Is it late learning programming at age 22? If not which language should I learn first?
You're never too late to learn programming. I always recommend C because it's very small and pretty easy to learn. Python is also often recommended but it's fucking huge.
>>57394680
>which language should I learn first?
All of them.
>>57394680
>Is it late learning programming at age 22?
No, it is not too late. If you were on /r9k/ asking about how to get laid, maybe it'd be too late, but you can learn to program at any point in your life when you have a functioning brain.
>which language should I learn first?
Depends on what you wanna do.
>I want the shortest possible time from zero to being able to write a program that actually does something vaguely interesting
Python
>I wanna look under the hood and see how the machine and operating system work underneath everything
C
>I wanna do web stuff
Javascript
>I don't give a shit, I just want a job
Java, C#, or Javascript. If you're a code monkey remember that you're competing with Pajeet, who will work awfully hard for not a lot of money. You'll have to either do the same or be able to demonstrate to an employer that you're better than he is.
Can somebody repair this get script? I think the issue is that it's unable to retrieve the latest post number due to some changes that happened like a year ago now.
Here's the script: http://pastebin.com/n3eR9nd7
I'm just a pleb with zero knowledge in this field, but from what I can tell this could be a working way to grab the latest post number, I just have no idea how to splice it into the script:

So, I wanna make games. I know a basics of programming in C/C++/C#/java, I got some ideas of games, but I dont want to fall for the memes, so I ask /g/ advice here...
->engines are good or they are just tools for pajeets? if yes , should I use unity? It seems to be the best but... I dont want to adapt myself to an engine that is proprietary.
->what books are /g/ approved? opinion about pic releted
->where to find best documentation
also Game Development thread, share your experience, say how it is, problems you've had...
>So, I wanna make games.
No, you don't. You think you do, but you're wrong and probably stupid.
>>57394458
This. Go back to playing Gmod or whatever you kids do these days. If you really wanted to make a game, you would have done it already in game maker or unity or something. If you truly had the capacity to create a worthwhile game you wouldn't be worrying about shit like what /g/ approves of.

Sit down. We need to talk about the G751.
Should I get it?
no
build a desktop and get a thinkpad t400
>>57394401
But what about muh games? Need something portable that can also play games.
>>57394415
you can play your games on desktop
you can remotely connect to your desktop with dankpad
It's simple, it has no adds and it works like a charm. I hope that they'll add a search engine as well, it's probably the only feature I'm missing compared to when I used qBitTorrent. They should also add the option to choose the folder each time a new file is downloaded.
Which torrent client do you use?
>no ads
>this is a feature now
>Written in Python
>>57394413
Yes, it's an important feature.
What kind of infrastucture would there be to link a mars colony to the internet back on Earth?
The time it takes for light to travel to earth from the sun is about 8 minutes, so if mars and earth are on roughly opposite of each other, it'd take half an hour to update a single page.
Would there just be massive servers whose job is to get a constant stream of webpages to be cached for locals to access?
>>57394319
you would need quantum tech where latency is zero and so on to make earth internet available to mars. in the short - medium term having a site-to-site satellite connection between the two planets and having CDNs on mars
>>57394332
Quantum Tech?
What the fuck are you on about.

>>57394319
