Why don't they make mechanical mouse anymore? I miss the mechanical feeling of the tracking mechanism and the ability to use it on glass. Laser/optical mouse just feel light, artificial, and unnatural. Mechanical keyboards, and trackballs are all the rage right now yet there is not a single mechanical mouse you can buy.
They're still optical. The sensor is just internal and measures the rate wheel causes the IR to flicker. They had low dpi, people stole the balls, and had to be frequently cleaned. They're more expensive to make as well. Plus they were old, and optical were new so people went with them.
>>58050985
Kids today won't know the joy of throwing those balls at one another.
Kids today won't know the frustration of going to a game room and finding your mouse ball-less.
>>58050985
What matters is the ball, you just don't get the same feel with laser mouse.

What's the difference between a program, an application, and a client?
An application will generally have a user using it, a program may or may not. An app will generally be on a mobile device of some sort. A client will generally interact with a client that lives on a server, so lack of internet will mean the client doesn't work. HTH
A program doesn't have to distinguish between client or server side, as it is strictly local
An application is intended to be an extension of existing functionality
For example firefox is a local program with exending applications that can, circumstantiallly, interact with servers if he developer has some set up and/or designated
>>58050576
App is short for application. They mean exactly the same thing.
The current version of Windows does not support CCleaner anymore so RIP.
What are some good alternatives to clean cache, delete files, etc. that are compatible?

I need a laptop like right now
What's a decent one that will also be powerful enough to run games? It won't be my main machine but lets use dota 2 as a minimum requirement.
Also it should be decent enough to not hang/get stuck all the time. But I think the i5's in that price range should be enough for that, right?
Also SSD extremely preferable to have, but at worst I'll add one separately. Even 128gb is fine.
Would appreciate help.

I watched Terry for the first time the other night since /g/ posts him all the time. I have to say I was quite impressed with what he's done even if it has taken him over 10 years. Interesting to see what pure determination can achieve even if a bit nuts. Has he always been a programmer or did he start from scratch when he got his "message" from God to create a vessel for him?
always been a programmer. he used to work for ticketmaster.
Just starated bs in cs, slowly because it's free for state employees. This year I'm just going to do all my calculus and physics courses. What can I do during my free time to better myself? I have no experience outside building my own computer. Also I have a 9 to five job. Any tips or advice appreciated
>>58049930
Currently a CS fag as well, and was in the same boat. My program required me to pass the compTIA A+ exam as a class which helped quite a bit, but I was also hardware illiterate in terms of /g/ standards.
>>58049972
Is that something I should look into? AlsoI'm aware, I am so new to this shit and figured a board of elitists might steer me in the right direction.
But that also sounds like something you do later, anything you remember helping you when you started out ?
>>58050076
I'm a poorfag so I started in a great community college that focused on hands-on learning, so I had some good experience in various languages, but that A+ course was the very first class I took beginning my bachelor's.
My advice is obvious I guess, I did a ton of actual programming. Just find some exercises and do them. And don't care about what anyone says about superior languages, besides javascript. That's gay. Sorry my advice is shit.

Lolicon is legal in so many places anyway so i don't see why that's their concern.
Botnet is a word that should not exist
>>58049894
-Windows 10 is a botnet

Hey /g/, just dug out my old emachine pc. Was thinking of throwing it away but I thought I could make it into a modern gaming rig or a programming rig. Is it possible for this old piece of hardware or is it a lost cause? Pic related
>>58049757
post your hardware in a more detailed matter, and we could actually help you.
>>58049757
I suppose you could use the case...
No idea if anything inside it is still viable, as >>58049789 has pointed out.
My guess is that for a gaymen rig, you'll have to replace pretty much everything
