Do I need to sanitize it much more than this if I want to insert

$subdomain

into a mysql table for analytics?

I would assume there is really no way to perform an SQL injection inside the host section of a URL because any special characters will just break the initial DNS query/browser request, right? In Chrome, this would just perform a Google search for the URL instead of loading and other browsers would just say it's an invalid URL.

I installed a Linux distro a week ago (after seven years with Windows 7 and 10) . I'm not really a Linux noob as I used it back then when XP was outdated and 7 wasn't out yet.

These are my observations:

>Wifi signal seems really weak and slow compared to what I get in Windows (I remember I had this problem years ago too with a completely different laptop).
>Wifi connection isn't stable when signal is less than perfect (I guess it has to to with the previous point).
>My wireless mouse scrolls almost a whole page at a time with the wheel, tried changing the respective setting but made no difference
>Two finger scrolling on some apps scroll in the opposite direction of others
>Both Firefox and Chrome show a horrible bar on top (unnecessary and a complete waste of space)
>browsing performance is about the same or worse than in Windows
>Window management is ridiculously bad on Unity. I thought it would be like Windows 7/10 due to having that "dock" but its awful.
>Can't get accelerated graphics on anything other than KDE. Gnome3 runs like crap
>No support from Google Drive at all
>Battery life on my laptop is significantly worse than in Windows 10 even though its supposed to be a "lighter" system
>LibreOffice compatibility with MS Office documents is trash (isn't the format Microsoft uses now open source?)
>Window borders are gigantic
>The whole interface seems like someone was told to make something similar to Windows 7 and Mac OS but the result ends up being just a colorful Windows 95.

Shit like this makes me wonder if Linux will ever be worth anything outside a server...

I have about a thousand FLAC files that I want to transcode and a 9 year old laptop that shuts off due to overheating whenever I try. Will adding a sleep 10 to the end of my for loop stop this or will it only limit the amount of files I can transcode before it passes out again?
