C is god tier, and Objective-C is just C but Objectively the best version of it
Swift is but a meme language
>>58046103
Objective-C tends to be much faster for certain applications.
The primary reason is that it's still easier to find good and experienced developers for objective-c.
Swift is a great language and we've written and rewritten parts of our applications in it, but it attracts lots of hipsters who can't program too well.

Definitively human.
It's because they're looking for people who aren't complete spurgs and can actually accomplish things with other people.
How do you make xfce not shit? I tried dockbarX with grouped icons no titles, its buggy as fuck. I tried Window Previews, also buggy as fuck and Minimized previews are questionable at best (barely work)
I tried standard window buttons with Icon/groups no text, but you can't pin things to the taskbar.
The only way to make XFCE function is the default panel setup.
Why are Linux DE's so ass?
Please show me your XFCE

wtf is this piece of shit doing, when I'm not watching
does anyone have more insight what is exactly going on, I swear I'm so close in just installing win7 back, so sick of this cryptic bullshit
>>58046012
installing updates while you aren't using it, then stopping when you use it to allow for faster operation
Could be windows defender, it always goes up to 99% cpu whenever I let it idle (and stays like it even when I move the mouse)
You can disable it in defender settings, turn off realtime protection, but the botnet automatically reenables it so watch for that
>>58046062
>disable windows defender
>program is running slow
>check, yeah defender is still disabled
>add the programm as an exclude to defender
>now its running fast
why can't I just uninstall this bullshit. This seriously the most retarded thing microsoft ever implemented

WINE continues to get better, let's hope it's on par with Window's GNU/Linux subsystem Soon(TM)

That stupid subsystem cant even edit Linux files. Whats the point, again?

Wine is missing the telemetry enhanced experience of the real Windows.
Wine is so shit, you don't even have to restart when you install something in it.
How could this possibly be better than Windows 10â„¢ with GPU pasthroughâ„¢?
I just installed Solus OS AMA.

Why shouldn't I use the Mozilla Public License? It seems like a decent middleground between MIT and GPL
>>58045710
So how does MPL work compared to BSD/MIT and GPL? Isn't that you only have to release the changes you make and the rest can be proprietary?

I want to build the lowest power consuming computer i possibly can.
The obvious answer is "orange pi" or similar, but for simplicity I want x86 so I don't need to attempt in vain to recompile or find software.
It, at most, needs to drive two 1080p displays, decode a 720p youtube video, and browse the web at the same time.
Any suggestions on the processor?

Intel Compute stick.
Definitely Facebook, and soon after, Microsoft. Google and Amazon already have the entire industry by it's balls, and Apple will be around forever because muh iphone
>>58045648
Facebook is too strong.
Apple might choose to go cheap and just keep the logo and produce shit.
Facebook will die 1st<apple<M$<Google<Amazon
Facebook, then Amazon, Google will buy Apple and Microsoft will buy India.
Microsoft keeps removing useful features from Windows 10 Pro. They also think your lock screen is a good place to display ads even after you've paid for the software.
Apple keeps removing features for no reason other than "that's old". No one needs a headphone jack or an esc key anymore.
Linux is in limbo between 40 different attempts at solving the same problem and is crippled by bullshit like systemd.
BSD is just a more difficult path to end up with the same toolchain as any Linux distro.
Why the fuck can't we have one good OS /g/?
We just need red hat and suse to put all their efforts into fixing up mate and gtk2 and we'd have perfect linux desktop.
Fuck Redhat.
Fuck Network Manager
Suse might be a possibility. I've run it on my desktop before.
Wayland is good but now we need a Wayland Xorg compatibility layer because it will take 20 years for everyone to get their ass in gear and support Wayland. Fuck.

Why didn't elixir put javascript in a coffin?
>>58044986
How the fuck is Erlang/Elixir a replacement for JS?
>>58044986
If Elixir came up 20 years ago (when Java was rising), who knows?
Erlang always had problems with it's """special""" syntax, even though personally I find it pretty neat, almost like C. Elixir solves this problem and has Erlang's super smart concurrency model.
Anyway, things went down as they did. Functional languages will always have it difficult, because they are vastly different from what university teaches and what the industry uses.
But as concurrency will be more important and Erlang/Elixir has just the gold standard design for reliable distributed systems, I think it might have a big comeback in the next few years.
Nevertheless, Java has a really big pile of legacy code and millions of coders. Also people put a lot of money into optimizing it. If some major company would push Elixir it might really get big, who knows..

Is Computer Engineering a real engineering degree?
>>58044713
Don't listen to this retard. Computer Engineering is more or less the study of physics and applying it to real life for shit.
No, it's not real engineering. Computer engineering is mostly a math degree just like computer science. With some slight hint of electro engineering
