Anti-virus is a malware in of itself and it's better to just run malwarebytes every once in a while instead of having active protection that spies on you extensively.

Using AV is a case of 'I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it' is one of the easiest things somebody can implement as a layer approach to defense with extremely minor draw backs provided you aren't using shit like McAfee/Norton/etc.

Please don't let shit like the major commercial solutions paint your whole perception of AV.
