I program games constantly. I spend about 14 hours a week programming at the absolite minimum but it feels like there is always a wall blocking me from improving. Something that I can't really grasp or begin to comprehend, and that is absolutely devastating my motivation. Most of the time to the point that I scrap entire projects and begin from scratch so that I can relearn everything. Any of you guys have any tips on how to improve while not making me hate myself?

I should also note that iv'e had this same system for about 2 years and still feel like I'm at a basic level.
Same. You graduated uni with a good grade and now doing a dev job but still have this issue
>>58218018
Damn, that seems like a much worse position to be in. That's alot of pressure, how do you handle it?
What are some /news/ sites that are accurate and most importantly, respect my freedoms?

Reddit, all jokes aside.
Whatever is flagged as "fake news" on facebook, all jokes aside.

It's almost 2017 and I still have only been to reddit once or twice.

Just because /ptg/ is full of shitbags from reddit it doesn't mean that everyone else on 4chan is a shitbag from reddit who thinks that doxxing, derailing threads and getting people banned is as funny as hell.
ccd0 is a pretty nice guy and the last time I submitted a bug for 4chan-x it took less than 48 hours for him to fix it.

Is there any reason to root your phone anymore in 2016/2017?
adaway
>>58217507
Do you use apps that rely on root? Do you wish to remove apps that are worthless to you, but can't be done without root because they're listed as "system apps"? Then sure. Also root is sometimes required to be able to install custom recovery and ROMs.
I personally don't have root or custom anything on my LG V10. Root and stuff like that usually compromises full storage and SD encryption. Results in boot loops, etc. Not to mention I then become responsible for all my own security patching and updates because rooting makes you looses OTA updates.

>apps that rely on root
If you use any of them you are undeniably an eternal virgin geek fuckboy who doesn't know what's up
So which browser should I use? Everything's a botnet according to /g/.

Anything you want, your OS is already a botnet no matter what you use, the only way to be "safe" would be to not use phones or computers at all.

I'm looking to save a few bucks and in all likelihood, I won't be able to take my phone into work for security reasons. I have a PC and laptop at home.
Should I give up on this smartphone trend and settle with a more rugged flip phone or something of the sort? I don't ever use the camera, all I really do is watch videos on YouTube and browse anonymous underwater basket-weaving forums. The only thing I forsee myself missing is the GPS, but I can just print out directions if I need them.
Has anyone else ever tried this before?

Anyone here done any study of informatics? How was it? I'm thinking about adding a diploma to my degree so I can do some more programming, and can choose between informatics or computing as my focus, but having trouble deciding.
>>58217216
>informatics
Are you German or slav? Waste as little time on it as possible, almost every "computing/IT" college is shit and you'll learn more about programming online or from local courses.
It's basically statistics but rebranded with an emphasis on machine learning for processing huge datasets.

Nah, Aussie - it's at Melbourne Uni, it's legit.
Hi /g/ today i need some help, i must say my major field isn't technology but i want to learn more things since i find it very interesting.
Today, i just want a recommendation about what programming language (actualy i know a little bit of phyton) i should learn first to only put some shit together, also recommendations are highly apreciated.

Do you have a specific goal? I started programming because I want to fix gtk file picker and I am still learning
>>58217135
I would say start with C to learn the basics and how memory allocation and arrays work
It's a very basic language with strict rules
Also it's easier to learn other languages because C is like Latin compared to Spanish or Italian to give you a metaphor
Stupid question:
How does a bootable installer (1.7gb iso) on a 4gb flash drive download a 3.9gb file from torrent?
I had a hdd failure, and while I'm waiting for a new hdd to come in the mail I'm booting off a thumbdrive (mint Linux 18). Since I get free wifi at work, I decided to re-download the Windows 8.1 installer to use when the new drive shows up. But the Windows iso is 3.9 gb and the only drive connected to the pc is only 4gb and already has the Linux iso burned on it.
I expected the comp to crash when it passed the 2gb mark (which I thought was the limit for the persistence file) but it didn't. The whole thing downloaded and I plugged another drive in and copied the iso from downloads to the 32gb drive.
There literally was no HDD at all in this laptop.
What is this i don't even?
>>58217130
You can't speak today, either. Is the installer 1.7GB or 3.9?
>>58217232
The Linux bootable that I was using was 1.7gb iso on a 4gb flash drive.
I booted with that and downloaded a 3.9gb windows installer.
>at work
It's possible that you have a network drive
Looking for a new harddrive, and I want one that lasts a while. Does Seagate really have awful failure rates? What brand should I go with?
HGST or Hitachi
WD is ok.

>>58217119
>Only buy in powers of 2 (2TB, 4TB, 8TB) etc.
why?
>>58217166
he is trolling, just buy based on speeds and/or price per GB for hard drives. Nobody knows how reliable certain hard drives really are. Some people say stuff based on what other people say and pass it down or based on expereience.
>Cleaning up years of old downloads that are taking up hard drive space
>Check everything thoroughly in fear of deleting something urgent
>Constantly get distracted by my history, looking up subjects related to the files and see all the memories come back
>Get an existential crisis from realizing what I have been doing with my life
>Never actually finish cleaning up, repeat indefinitely
What are some good strategies to prevent shit like this?
Just delete all of it.
If you haven't needed to use it in the last couple of months, you probably don't need it.
>>58217070

I needed a job. Apparently companies don't want people with physics degrees, they want people who code in php, python and Javascript.

What does /g/ think of Google Cardboard? Just bought a viewer. What would you recommend I download for it?
porn
All the good gay porn costs money, so you won't be able to afford it on neet buxs.
>>58216727
You're a fool for paying for a viewer. I have Star Wars one, but only because Verizon was literally giving them away for free. You could've literally walked in, took a viewer, and walked out. They were just sitting on a table.
Anyway, Cardboard as a platform just isn't that great. It's not shit, but not amazing either.
