The only thing it's good for is using it as an OPDS catalogue to download books onto other devices

You are literally retarded too.
Theres an option to index existing folder structure or to copy into the program directory.

Is there really any reason to use Linux in 2016/2017? It doesn't even have good wifi support.

why modern versions need well over 400MB while doing exactly the same thing as the version from 25 years ago.
>tfw you remember autocad R14 and how lightweight it was
Is word even worth it anymore?
Besides the effective monopoly that office has in the industry it's really been outpaced by it's competitors.

Because they add easter eggs like "accidently" adding the entire Microsoft Flight Simulator into Excel.
Yes, they actually did this.

Hey guys I am buying a new laptop because I am working overnight and have a lot of downtime so wanted shit to play.
I was looking at this laptop
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234297
and had a question about 1060 vs 1070 in laptops. Seems like 1070 reviews are shit compared to 1060 in this laptop.
Is there a reason for that? Should I just stick with the 1060 version?
Just wondering before I pull the trigger friday. Just wanted to play a bunch of new releases on steam, maybe some emulated stuff on my laptop during my downtime.
>gaming laptops
You realize that it isn't an actual 1060 or 1070 right? It's a laptop version that simply isn't as good. Same thing with the processor.
Buy a desktop and get a cheaper laptop.
>>58213923
why do you post things you know nothing about? what purpose does it serve you posting disinfo?
>>58213923
I literally explained why I am buying a laptop.
I already have a desktop that I can play whatever I need to.
I work overnight and a lot of the time have 4-5 hours to myself.
I want a laptop to entertain myself by playing games. I can't buy a desktop and bring it into work.
I want to learn how to not be a useless shit. Are these good books to start with?
I'm getting a loan to go back to school since I'm 22 and fucked my early life up. Any advice on getting a career as a programmer/software engineer would be appreciated.
I'm looking at automated testing as well with some info my dad tells me about since he is an AGILE project manager in D.C.
>>58213775
Check out the mit opencourseware with python and how to think like computer scientist with python.
Then try some of Bjarne Stroustrups beginner books on c++. Then you can move to whatever you want.
Thats how I learned the most at least.
>>58213824
I'll check those out! I've got 3ish years before I get a degree so I want to be as knowledgeable and prepared before I start looking for internships in my area and the D.C. Area
>>58213894
The best book I ever read as a beginner was Practice and Principles using C++ by Bjarne even if you dont plan to do c++ I think its a great book. It starts you on a path to learning things that are important later on in your education. I've been programming for a few years and I'd still look back through it if I hadnt given it away.
What are you working on, /g/?
Old thread: >>58208426
I wanted to do a very dumbed down discord clone just has a learning experience, what libraries should I use? I know c, java, c++ and python
Working on permissions in my VOIP protocol.
Learning C via the best book but I turned the assignment around because here in superior Europe we use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.
Is it possible to build PC's and sell them online for a profit as a side-gig?
If you have to ask then probably no
>>58213651
It might've been feasible maybe 10-15 years ago, but now that mobile computing has taken over as the primary form of computing I'd say it probably wouldn't be profitable.
Maybe buying the parts on black friday andthen selling them to a second world country.
>tfw terry is actually an atheist
