Is there any reason to root your phone anymore in 2016/2017?

Do you use apps that rely on root? Do you wish to remove apps that are worthless to you, but can't be done without root because they're listed as "system apps"? Then sure. Also root is sometimes required to be able to install custom recovery and ROMs.
I personally don't have root or custom anything on my LG V10. Root and stuff like that usually compromises full storage and SD encryption. Results in boot loops, etc. Not to mention I then become responsible for all my own security patching and updates because rooting makes you looses OTA updates.

There are advantages to root.

CM is bloated and obsolete. Use Xposed instead.

DNS66 blocks ads and doesn't need root.
Greenify is obsolete. Use Naptime.
No.
Xposed requires root so there's that
There's also the longtime champion reason of deleting shitty bloatware apps
Using actually good red light filters requires root
