Putting the trip on and coming back to these threads because some of the advice I've read in the past 2 or 3 days has been straight up horrible. Hope nobody listened to all of the retards in the last thread. JFC.

>>58217701
Depends on the motherboard. X99 supports quad channel so if you have 4 sticks they'll be slightly faster than running 2 of the same total RAM amount in dual channel. It's not a make or break difference though. Realistically 2x8 GB is fine, especially on non-X99, where it's your best option.
>>
>>58217719
If I was able to avoid dell and build my machine from bits I would. Trust me. That's how I built my last machine back in 2010. But the whole caveat now is that I basically have to find the least shit thing at dell at my pricepoint. Either that or find a comparable canadian service willing to build a not shit machine for me and ship that.

It sucks and I could get a better machine for way cheaper if I built it myself but that's not an option. Nor I do know anyone who could do it FOR me, hence buying a prebuilt from a service.

if you're not content creating, you don't need an i7, go with an i5 6600k, save yourself like 100 dollars.
you also probably don't need 32gb of ram, go with 16 at the most and upgrade later if you really want, again you save yourself around 100 dollars or more there.
otherwise you're on the right track, i don't think you necessarily need 850 watts of power but it probably can't hurt in the long run, just know you can probably downgrade comfortably with that.
>>
>>58217836
It's an i7 with a GTX 1080 if that's not shit?

>>58217985
Gift Cards. It's too late to get em swapped for parts places so I figure make the best of it and get a machine. Just so long as the specs aren't garbage. Catch is a bunch of shit goes off sale in a day or two so I'm basically stuck trying to research a bunch of shit before I end up getting (what I assume will be) a much worse deal after this boxing week sale finishes.

But even after talking directly with their help service multiple times I got told they didn't know the mobo info and then later didn't divulge that info due to policies. Then found a service manual with a manufacturing number that has no real information about it online. So I'm not really going to know until it arrives but from what I can discern the specs aren't that bad.

Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4xqPvV

Here's my problem: Despite all my fans working, my mobo lighting up, and even my GPU and CPU fans working, there is no display on the computer.

I have tried using the motherboard port, trying different memory card orientations, choosing a different monitor, and double checking all the proper connections. None of these methods worked.

So we've ruled out the monitor being fucked right? It works with other PCs?

If so, and if your integrated graphics don't work, either
1) the motherboard is fucked, or
2) your RAM is fucked

Without a speaker to diagnose whether or not you're POSTing it's hard to be more specific than that. Either fire up the RMAs or buy a cheap speaker.

Hi, I'm completely new to PC gaming and I want to build a computer to play games on. Ideally I'd like to be able to run Fallout 4, Arma 3, Battlefield Hardline and Battlefield 1 on decent graphics with good performance and hopefully be able to use a bunch of mods for Fallout 4 without any real problems. I've been looking around at pre built PCs, but apparently those are more expensive than buying the same parts usually? Ideally I'd like this to not be overly expensive. Can you guys help me out a little?
>>
>>58220380
Buy a I5, B150M motherboard and a GTX 1050Ti.

>>58220442
Ideally $700 or less
>>
>>58220537
That is mid-high budget.
The problem is what you want now.

A GTX 1060, I5 (locked or unlocked), 8-16GB RAM, EVGA 650W G2, B150/Z170 motherboard, 256GB 850 EVO and 1TB WD Blue.
>>
>>58220537
do you value expandability or initial power? because there's a lot that can be done to make either side gold.
>>
>>58220554
Wait that's a mid-high budget? Why am I always seeing everyone say you need to spend $1000+ to get a high tier PC? What does locked or unlocked mean?
>>58220569
You mean if I'd like to be able to easily upgrade it? Because I'd like to be able to play the games I listed at good framerates and quality, but if I could upgrade it later on that would be perfect
>>
>>58220616
>Wait that's a mid-high budget?
That you can get a build good enough to run everything at max settings (1080@60FPS) for a couple of years and a nice SSD.

Unlocked means intel K series CPU whick lets you overclock them, increase the clock speeds for better perfomance but you must sacrifice lifetime, heat and energy.
You must get a Z170 motheboard for them, if you get one you wont have to replace your CPU in a long time (See people still using I5-2500K and I7-2600K).

If you want something easy just get a locked one and a B150 motherboard like MSI B150M mortar and a CPU like I5-6500.
>>
>>58220616
It can be made more cheap if you want.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TqZJm8

You could drop the GTX 1060 to a 1050Ti and get a SSD or be exactly your budget but since you will be mainly playing games its up to you.
>>
>>58220668
Yeah I want something easy, I've never done this before, I usually shitpost from my laptop and play Minecraft and TF2 while watching videos of all the cool games I wish I could play.
>>58220723
I think I'll do that, I would like to spend less than that
>>
>>58220783
What about this then?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JWmNsJ

Note this GPU is not as strong as the old one but can run games like Battlefield 1 at 45-50FPS on Ultra.
Dont expect Ultra settings on fallout 4, that game is unoptimized as fuck.

You can bet a better videocard later on.
>>
>>58220783
>>58220819
I second this build.

This is a "please help me I'm a faggot who doesn't know what he's doing" post, but bear with me. I've tried steps on other forums, and have reached the limit of how Google can help me.

> Coolermaster Seidon 120v CPU cooler
> Reliable since purchase for $20 in August 2014, awesome cooler
> Changed cases and motherboards (apevia x-qpack3 and Asrock 970m) 30 days ago
> 20 days ago, pump stopped working, started getting 60-70 degree heat on CPU with fans going at full speed, pump light still on
> Trial and error showed that reseating the plug for the pump made it work again, but that restarts and awakening from sleep had a 50/50 shot of breaking it again

I'd just buy another CPU cooler, except 1) I can't find another liquid cooler for as good a price and 2) it isn't offered in the US anymore.

Has anyone here had a similar issue? Do I need to replace the cooler? If so, what's a good equivalent in terms of price/performance to the 120v?

here you go, this is an example of what I mean by initial power, case, mobo, ram, psu and storage have been brought down to what you need, at least to safe levels. the budget has been transferred into the graphics card and cpu and because of that, you can run nearly any game, maxed out at 1080p, 60fps.

>>58220855
>Z170

>Drop from 6gb to 3gb cheapest 1060(-60)
Bad idea, the 3GB version is not worth it, it perfoms weaker than the 6GB version, not only because it has less VRAM but because its a cut version.

>>58221011

Not an argument I care about. But rather 3 GB vs 6 GB 1060. Difference is so minimal n 1080p scenario. That's the point of the post/idea.
>>
>>58220899
I don't mind spending a bit more on the case. I'd like something durable since I'll be bringing it to and from my dorm in between semesters. Yeah I'll probably just pay the premium for the samsung SSD. The one I have in my (dying) laptop has served me well. I'll need to get some sort of fan though. I don't believe the skylake CPU's come bundled with the stock fans.

>>58220934

>>58220927

Well.. I guess this shows I should probably do my research instead of believing everything I read on here. It does seem to be within 10 frames at 1080p.
>>
>>58221044
Skylake CPUs are really cool.
1151 stock HSFs are actually worse than 1150 HSF (For example, no cooper pad on them) and still are cooler than haswell CPUs, they usually idle at 20-30°C (Ambient temperature 25°C and only one exhaust fan on a old Compaq case).
>>
>>58221069
Gotcha. Are there any AIO liquid cooling products that aren't shit-tier memes?
>>
>>58221100
No, again you have a locked CPU, temperatures wont be an issue.
If you want something just go and get a 212 EVO or 212X, whatever is cheapest.
>>
I don't understand the point of getting locked skylake and not oc-ing them when they give 30-80% performance boost for free.

Learning to oc isn't hard, and when you're trying to get the best performance for the money, why not take 1 more step and learn how to use the BIOS on your computer?

>>58221045
10 fps means nothing 10 fps in 200 fps vs 210 fps? Or 20 fps vs 30 fps?

Former is considered negligible. Later is considered huge, a 50% difference. You see the later when comparing 1060 and 1070 cards.

All I. All the difference is within 5% at max because of the shader count loss. In real term, 58 vs 60 fps or 97 vs 100 fps. Something close like that.
>>

On this note, I got a Corsair H60 for a 6600k I haven't bought yet. Did I fall for a shit-tier meme?

Extra money on a Z170 motherboard to start and the need of getting a HSF since intel stock wont do.

I'm looking for a PC for very light work. Most demanding tasks are football manager with very large database and full HD videos on a 27" screen and general multitasking. Are these specs good enough to run windows 10 well?

>Intel Core i5-3470T
>Intel HD2500
>16GB DDR3
>120GB SSD

For storing media I use an external drive.

Would it be up to the task? Windows 7 is also possible if it's significantly lighter. It's only dual core and apparently a bit more powerful than the age-old Q6600. The GPU is also lightweight but should be just about 1080p capable.

Big bottlenecks?
>>
>>58221144
From the builds I see with locked ks, the difference is usually $10-20 since the mobo chosen are already close to the price of z170 mobos. And people are already buying AFM coolers anyway in some cases.

I need some help and suggestions with my build. I want it to be enthusiast with enough power to do video editing, graphic design, and games on the side. I'd also like to have some fun with it by overclocking.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PwpQwV
(Ignore the warning about no cooling. I'm also getting a better monitor to accommodate this build later)

I've built a computer before six years ago and haven't upgraded anything in it aside from an SSD. For this build, I would like to use water cooling instead of air cooling, though I don't know where to start or what to consider for it such as parts, case, space, and whatever else. I've googled for information about it, but I would like a second opinion on it. I'm looking to do water cooling for my CPU and GPU. What should I know, consider, and avoid? I think I read here to not purchase a kit that has everything together, but I don't remember the reason why.

I have a fairly high budget for this so I'm okay spending some money to get more out of this, but I don't want to spend for the sake of spending. I'm also planning to see if I can get everything at a Micro Center if that helps any.

I don't know much about this shit, and I don't know where to ask this, so I hope this isn't in the wrong place. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong thread:

I'm looking to pick up a higher refresh rate monitor, probably 120-144hz.
The problem is I'm not really sure if it's worth it for what I do. Most of the things I've read online praise the 144hz monitors for stuff like CS:GO or other games that would make use of it.
I don't really play cs:go anymore, and I don't really want to.

I animate and do 3D VFX mostly in my spare time, but I'm unsure of if having a refresh rate above 60 would benefit me in any way for stuff like this.
My gut instinct would be to say no, since most of the things I do are between 24-30, and sometimes 60 fps.
But I don't know that much about this stuff, so I guess that's why I'm here asking. My initial guess may be wrong.

Would a 144hz monitor benefit an animator/vfx artist in any way, or should I just stick to 60hz?
>>
>>58222195
I didn't realize the motherboard needed a specific type of RAM. Thank you for the correction and suggestion of the hard drive.

The H100i looks good as well, but I'm going to wait a bit on it since I want to create a water loop for the processor and graphics card together so I won't have to deal with two radiators. I'm not sure if I can attach additional loops to the H100i, so I'm going to research that now.

Tbh I don't know if it's even worth upgrading from my i7 2600k. But it's a 6-year-old build and I'm getting semi-frequent blue screens that I suspect are hardware related. .

I don't have a 144hz monitor myself, but I've seen many guys on /g/ saying that everything feels much more fluid, even during normal desktop stuff and that going back to 60hz feels much more sluggish. It will probably probably be even better, if you're an animator, like yourself.

Ok I'm going to reuse my HDD on my new build and I was wondering how to proceed with it? I want to do a clean install btw. Do I reformat the hdd before plugging it in? or can I just plug it in and it will give me an option to do a clean install? I heard tho that it might cause issues if I just plug it in without reformatting tho.
>>

If you're installing windows you can format the drive in the windows installer
>>

>>
>>58224600
You have two choices:
1. Boot into windows install and format the drive, then install windows on it. This will delete everything.
2. Boot into windows install and simply select your old partition. This will also be a clean install, exept it will keep your old shit in C:\Windows.old so restoring files you want to keep becomes easier. You should of course manually back up before as well in case something goes wrong. This only makes restoring your files easier.

You should consider dropping that 570 out. The iGPU in any modern processor will probably outperform it while generating less heat/noise and consuming less electricity. But regardless, it's pointless to buy a 1060 if you don't have any use for it.

>>
>>58227867
I kept seeing that everywhere too. I eventually got the 470 but never got the chance to use it because of it's 8pin connector. But that appeared to be the general consensus from all the research I did.

However in your situation it seems like it's kind of opposite. the 470 was cheaper here but better. How much is the rx480 where you live.

People wouldn't stop telling me to just fork over another 50$ for the rx480.
>>
>>58227748
if you are going to make a build, don't wait for the next big thing because the next big thing is always right around the corner. plus performance boost from one gen to the next from intel are not big, so you are not missing much when going for a 6600k months before the 7600k comes out.
>>
>>58227867
The 470 is only slightly worse than the 480. Meanwhile, the 1050 ti commands a premium because it's the most powerful GPU that doesn't require any power connectors outside motherboard. So if you have the money to get it and a PSU that isn't a piece of shit, I would say the 470 is a better buy despite being more expensive.

your memory is too fast, your mobo won't be able to use more than 2133.

imo unless you shit money it's not worth changing out the whole platform only for ddr4.

If your BIOS version is not F20, then you might have saved yourself. Otherwise you're fucked.

You might need this, or might not. If you intend to overclock it.

The mobo was only $30, literally cheaper than an h110m. Unfortunately couldn't swing the 6600k because then I'd need a cooler as well

Once amd is gone so is competition. Shill to the company that needs it.

The microcenter by me had the Z170 board for only $30 after the MIR. It would've been more expensive for me to get an h110. Never planned on overclocking since it was my first build and I didn't want to buy a separate cooler

So whats the BIOS version? As posted in >>58230377 if its not F20 or so, there might be a chance you can overclock the i5 to get 4.5Ghz or more.

Granted by that, you'd need to buy a $20-30 af cooler.

Not sure, I'm not home. How would I do that with a locked processor anyway?

I made a picture about fan placement.

which is best? Standard or What I want to do?

I may also go with a Blower 1070 to get hot air out of the system.

With bclk overclock.

Increase bclk to 120-140 to get 4.5 GHz
Have the CPU get roughly 1.25v +- few hundred millivolt
Set RAM multiplier so it doesn't go over your original speed.

Then bench test orime95 for stability

Is this build alright? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/m7gCCy

Note: this power supply and case I already have from an older build

Literally don't worry about it. It's been tested and airflow barely makes any difference.

Guessing you have old storage too.

Please don't spread retarded info like 3khz is required for anything.
>>
>>58230995
It does make a noticeable FPS difference though.
>>
>>58230995
>>58231004
And, it's cheaper to start off with 3K Hz right off the bat instead of upgrading later on.

Sapphire and MSI cards are literally the exact same card with a different sticker in this case. Their stock fans are fine.
