Today I had a salad with organic chicken, shredded cheese, cashews, hardboiled eggs. The lettuce, onion, and basil were washed fresh from my garden.

I'm actually kind of poor, but it wound up being cheaper to buy the equipment as I went as opposed to paying for a few months at even the cheaper gyms.

Hey /fit/

I have a question about natty lifting. Everybody goes through this but when you started lifting, you noticed nice gains but still a manageable bf% and this continued for awhile. But inevitably you hit a wall. Now, why is it that guys at the gym that are natty and somewhat big and muscular have a significantly higher bf then they should. Is it impossible for them to gain the muscle without the associated fat? Is achieving 18 inch arms naturally only possible with a bf above 15%?

Only way to increase natural muscle size, is to have increased natural testosterone. Your body will only build as much as your hormones and everything can keep in check. This is why after roid use you shrink regardless of how much you keep lifting. You dont have the testosterone to keep the muscles working, So your body gets rid of the excess muscle mass. Thats why if someone is 6'4" and was 5% bf they could only max out at 205lbs natty. Even if they did a cycle they would drop back down within a few days of getting off cycle.

Okay, relative newcomer to fitness here.

Let's say I want to be a firefighter/police officer/EMT/soldier/etc. Somebody who has to carry gear around, get into physical altercations with people semi-regularly, or just help lift people off the ground a lot and deal with them.

I'm confused as to what kind of routine would be best for this. Would it be some kind of mostly calisthenics routine with some weight lifting mixed in? I've researched some stuff and it seems like that is the way to go, but I don't really understand the concept of training muscle groups.

Like, if I did this:

Squat
Bench
Chin Up
Overhead Press
Running

Three days a week forever, would it not make me pretty strong and good at my job (LET US ASSUME FOR SAKE OF SIMPLICITY THAT I DO NOT CARE ABOUT AESTHETICS)?

I mean, your hitting every muscle group three times a week, does it really matter if you switch it up every now and then for a different excericse? I try to find the answers online but all I usually get is conflicting information or piecemeal info.

joining a biggest loser competition. Problem is I'm down 24lbs since march and don't have that much excess to lose.

Thinking of bulking up before weighin on thursday.

Ideas are:
1. lots of salt
2. lots of water
3. don't poo before weigh-in
4. eat as much as possible

Any other ideas for putting on a few temporary lbs? Can I get myself up 10lbs in 45 hours?

But I can't push my own body weight. I can't even hold myself up in that position. I cannot do a push-up. I cannot do it on my knees, I cannot do it on a chair, I cannot do it anywhere.
Last time I had access to bench press equipment, I could only push like 40 pounds. I have trouble pushing certain kinds of doors unless I lean on them.
Why do "beginner" workouts include things that obviously some people cannot do? Day 1 should mean day 1.
Am I seriously supposed to just lie on the ground pushing and pushing and pushing but never moving up? Will that make me stronger?
If I get to be able to push more weight than before, but still nowhere near my body weight, how will I know the difference?

Don't worry OP, I was right there with you a couple years ago. Except I could do girl pushups.

Try incline push ups. Try it against a wall first and tilt yourself forward a little bit, then push out against the wall. Go on from there.

How are you holding your arms btw? Wide arm?

I return to sport, and instead of bodybuilding, I would like to restart by the weightlifting, and establishing some exercises of bodybuilding.
At first, I don't think of practicing directly Snatch or Clean and Jerk, but only exercises that will help me later in their execution.
