SL5x5 requires you to start with the empty bar and add 5lbs/2.5kg each workout. This creates an extremely slow progress that drags for way too long.
SS instead requires you to start adding weight until the bar slows down already at the first workout and for the first 2-3 weeks you should add as much as 10lbs/5kg each workout (or more). This allows you to maximize your novice capacity to progress much faster and more effectively, bringing you to 2-3pl8s in no time.
In SL, by the time you reach 2pl8s you're probably already close to the end of your novice progression.

Recently got back into going to the gym to get back in shape and paid for a PT through the gym to get me started since I've never done certain lifts and wanted to learn how to not go to snap city.
Just curious as to what level of memery I'll get since I'm done with him in a couple weeks
My bro has one. Basically he's filthy rich, so he pays this guy to be his gym buddy, occasionally watch his dogs or whatever when he's traveling with the wife.
He's aesthetic for a middle aged natty, but his numbers kind of suck and he's currently screwed most of his body from taking the PTs advice.

I've seen a few PTs in action and 100% of them have been pure garbage. They don't know how to perform the main compound exercises and they'll definitely put you on some kind of meme routine. They don't put you on routines that give results over time, they make you do stupid shit that makes you really sweaty and sore so you believe you've done something productive. It's way better to befriend the serious lifters in the gym and ask them for advice.
