Hi /ck/
Here's a question for you all. Please be civilized, this is kinda delicated for some people, this is all for the good of the science!.
Why does the world does not eat rats?, i was thinking this while watching a gif of a guy preparing rats.
I mean, we all know that the mices have a high rate of reproduction (That means that you can get a good amount of food), and a short life (This means that the mices grown fast).
Maybe the only cons is that the mices are pretty vulnerable to diseases and at least for now, i do not know if their meat are worth and are nutritive or they're just like eating a sponge.
What's your opinion about this?
no one here gives a shit about eating rats. we would all do it if it was streamlined and sold in the same way other meats are. also, this is assuming they taste good.
>>8457764
Read "King Rat" by Clavell. If any of us were hungry, we'd eat it and fight over the bones to suck the marrow out.
I take 20-30 squirrels a year for eating and they're rodents. It's excellent meat.
Humans have no problem eating anything so I'm sure if farming rats was worth it we'd be doing it already
I'm gonna say that they've just been a symbol of disease for so long you'd have a hard time getting people to want it
I'm looking for steak knives and some kitchen knives from William Sonoma (California now I guess)
I don't know where to start and the pricing should be reasonable. Nothing too cheap but nothing too expensive.
I would like to get some knives that will last the length of my marriage. Hopefully until I die.
What knives do /ck/unts like to use?
Also not cutco
>>8457609
No knife will do that without proper care (and very little cutting or not frequent enough sharpening). Well, that is unless you have a relatively short marriage or life.
>>8457609
go to the store and see what feels best
most of the knives there are around the same quality except for some of the cheaper german knives
Hey guys my neighbors just gave me some of these vegetables. I'd like to cook them, but I don't know what they are.
Any ideas?
>>8457597
jerusalem artichoke
they're like not starchy potatoes
And this is what they looked like before they got wet/washed.
>>8457597
They look like rutabagas
Anyone into outdoor cooking? Looking for new recipes...

For me it is the McChicken, the best fast food sandwich.
knorr stock mixes are amazing. sometimes you have to order the really good ones online.
Now that the memesters have said their piece, how about some cooking content?
I like to do foil packs. I'll make them up at home and pack them in the cooler. Cubed meat of choice, rough-cut carrot, onion, potatoes, and a pat of butter. Add seasonings, seal the foil well. Then when I'm at the campsite and have a nice set of coals going, I lay them on there. Flip after 10-15, wait another 10 and pull the packs. We can eat them straight out of the foil and toss the foil back onto the fire to toast off any food residue. Don't forget to clean the foil up the next day.
You can also do dessert-themed ones, I like apples, sugar, flour, butter, a splash of milk, and cinnamon. It all comes together into a nice apple pudding if you get the proportions right.
Any of you guys still have weird eating quirks?
Nope. Military did away with all that.
When I cook I do like to cook really slowly though, when a meal can be done that way. I made a casserole over like three hours yesterday.
Check the catalogue before posting please. A thread is currently up.
>Taking off the crust

I'm making decent money these days so I've decided to start eating genuinely farm raised meat.
Problem is it seems a lot of these are scams and still factory farm bullshit in disguise.
I don't care about price, any idea how to get truly legit farm raised meat?
PS.
I'd sooner consume human(Veg/Vegans only) before going veg/vegan.
>>8457289
Farmer's Market
>>8457289
>I don't care about price, any idea how to get truly legit farm raised meat?
Do your research, then literally visit the local farm in question.
How long do raw chicken breasts last in the fridge? Websites say 1-2 days but does that mean that within a single day the food will sour? I want to marinade some chicken breast tomorrow and I read online that you shouldn't marinade them for more than 2 hours, but I don't want to deal with thawing them out, so I took some pieces of chicken and placed them in my fridge. What would you do in this situation?
Sorry for the dumb question, I moved out and just started cooking for myself, so I'm uncertain about how to treat meat.
As long as you're cooking it thuroughly, keep it until it smells weird.
>>8457266
Alright, thank you!
>>8457255
I've taken chicken out of the freezer in the morning to defrost at room temperature and completely forgotten about it in the evening so leaving it out overnight as well. The following morning I remember and put it in the fridge to use in the evening that day but have forgotten that as well. So a day at room temperature and a day in the fridge and I've been completely fine eating it (once cooked of course).
I would assume a few days in the fridge would be perfectly fine.
Has anyone ever eaten pic related? It is (was?) Sold at Walmart.
>>8457206
Haven't you seen the "microwavable" baked potatoes that they wrapped in plastic selling for $2 a piece
>>8457242
I have. Those aren't cooked. This corn is already pre-cooked. It's squishy and weird.
>>8457206
Its so natural

Gonna be spending a week in France and a week in Belgium for a university trip.
We'll be living out of hostels and probably won't be going to many fancy places, so what are some good street level or budget level foods to try?
Inb4 frog legs and Belgian waffles.
>>8456994
Hit a cafe, french coffee is gangster and if you can swing it financially snag a pastry.
>>8456994
Get a fresh baguette from a bakery. Then hit up a charcuterie and get some pate, sausage, etc. Likewise for a cheese shop.
Then go wander off somewhere and have yourself a god-tier picnic.
>>8456994
In france you should get a baguette and some butter from Normandy. I would eat that shit for the rest of my life. Try a jambon beurre as well. A pan bagnat is a p good tuna sandwich.
The general idea with France though is you should eat the regional cuisine. Provence and Brittany are miles apart culinarily so depending on the regions you will be visiting, google that shit
Belgium has good fries. They are not a special country
Eat a fuckload of cheese
So co/ck/les, let's bitch about shit places we've worked. Smokehouse from Portland, OR. Owned by a 5' faggot who thinks he's the shit because he was on Top Chef, run by a spineless bitch who can't hold a station, and the GM believes that white people aren't people. Not to mention Cattlemans bbq praised as house sauce and meat sourced from Sysco.
Inb4 fast food or family casual chains, you aren't cooks, fuck off back to Pinterest.
>>8456837
Nice blogpost
>>8456837
I agree that's a shit hipster restaurant. Glad I moved from that shithole city.
So many bad meals that are praised as "the best" by brainwashed hipster cunts.
Le Pigeon and little bird at top-tier though
>>8456837
Boise fry company in Portland is also a horrible restaurant.
Bad quality meat with shitty employees
