I'm a double major in applied math and economics at Stony Brook uni. I don't really know what I want to do but I know it's in finance and I want to make money out of undergrad.
Long term I want to do quant finance but recently I've been thinking, should I got to grad school after undergrad? My biggest concern is how to make money while a grad student, and how much prestige and possible salary it will add on.
Thoughts?
fucking creepy ass picture wtf

First - If you don't have an internship, fucking get one.
Second - Graduate school is almost necessary to get any well-paying job in the finance/banking sector. Get an MBA if you don't know what you want to do.
Third - Are you still not getting an internship? FUCKING GET ONE
What companies (besides Google, AMD, NVDA) should one invest in now if they wish to profit on the coming A.I. boom?

You can't really cheat life, here is why..
If you're rich , time goes faster. If you're poor, time literally stays stuck for you.
How did life think ahead of wealth and still manages to balance shit out in the end?
What if you die sooner then you should, will life give you another chance because of the whole balance thing?
What if you live longer then you should? Buy a new heart? Will life punish you for it and make you start out as a bug in the next life?
Its almost unreal how balanced it is.
its not balanced
not being born rich sucks
Never read so much bullshit. Please just end your existence if this isn't a shitpost
Being rich is awesome. And life doesn't move any faster because I genuinely don't care how the other half lives. So I don't feel special or privileged, and instead pretend that everyone lives a similar but only slightly less fabulous life.
I just turned 20 years old and I have one semester left at community college and about to transfer to university. I'll be done with college overall with my bachelors at about 22 maybe the latest at 23. I want to start investing my money but don't know where to start, I see how people are making money flow with stocks and I'm very curious on how I could gain momentum, I'll have about $3,600 by mid January upcoming, what could I do with say $1,000 to get a solid start? Give me the most basic ideas on how I can begin investing to make cash flow and what websites should I use and applications to install on my laptop?
Get a job with a decent 401K plan. Either 50% employer match with no maximum or a 100% match to a $X amount. It's free 50-100% returns.
Invest a little in a total US stock market ETF like VOO.
Invest a little in bond market ETFs like EDV, BIV, BLV, etc.
Invest in real estate for rental income. I avoid residential and follow my Grandparent's method of investing in commercial property. They own offices they lease to dental practices, a small law firm, etc.
My Grandmother works at a factory and my recently retired Grandfather was a Manager for a construction company. I've seen tax and financial papers once a few years ago and they had almost $22M in assets at that time. They've sold a lot of property in the past 2 years and I think they are moving to Florida. Will probably blow through it all. But I don't blame them. I would too.

How much by "little"?
Can I invest if I'm not a US citizen?

Whwre are you from?
First Bitcoin bubble from $0.10 to $1, then $0.50 to $31, then $2 to $130, then $80 to $1150, now bubble #5 $200 -> ???
When is Bitcoin going to stabilize, distribute and represent an actual currency instead of a pump and dump scheme by a bunch of <1 BTC coiners?
>>1686071
Either 1300-3000
>>1686077
bitcoin is digital gold you salty nocoiner. you can still buy anything you want it with since merchants list shit in fiat.
ITT: ways to achieve passive income. I'll start:
>get at least a million bux
>invest on index fund with 10% returns
>100k/yr while doing jack shit
Is this a good way to do it? Planning to do it alongside a job and/or side hustle
>>1686037
Trade stock options
>>1686037
>yes
>you wont consistently get 10% return
>inflation will eat at your capital base if you do nothing else
>>1686292
reinvest 50k back into the fund each year, so long as inflation is less than 5% you're okay
I have $257,834.23 (258k).
What would you do with this money, /biz/?
I'd ideally like to stop working entirely. Should I invest into something? If yes, into what? Or should I just live off of it and try to live modest so that it's enough until I'm dead?
I'm 33, btw.
Silver/Gold min 10%
Real stuff only no paper

you want to make a stock exchange where you're able to buy samsung stocks?
Why is it so hard to buy bitcoins online? Why do all the exchanges require me to scan my ID? Why is paying by credit card not enough for those mongoloids?
Where does /g/ buy their bitcoins?
>less money beaurocracy!
>more freedoms!
>ends up being exactly the same as the real world counterpart, probably even more smelly
>>1685883
it's to prevent fraud, bitcoin transactions can't be reversed while credit card transactions can, the ID's requests are just proof of payment and insurance
If you don't feel like giving your ID to individuals you can always use something like XAPO to buy your bitcoins, they still require you to verify yourself through ID but at least it's a legit company
Isn't there something like bitcoins ATM ?
Hello /biz/ how would you go about advertising for your app if you made one? Not a tool app but something like a social media app
Fuck Social Media apps, there's too many crappy apps.
I wouldn't make one.
Social media apps are notorious for being unmonetizable.
hi i'd like one ugly thai girls please
and why not, toss in a fat one too
Is anyone trying the acorns app? I have 80 bucks in it so far for like a month and I am 2 dollars down. How much do I need before I see a profit?
gg
>>1685842
I have 190 in it. Roi is about 2.3% so far after 3 months - if it stays at this growth rate it will be ok for a convenient way to save some cash. Not going to get rich off of it though.
The way the fees work it seems that 4500-4800 would be the sweet spot as its still the flat 1.25 per month fee or whatever it is. Above 5k youre looking at similar management costs to 'proper' managed funds
Going to increase my weekly investment from 5 / wk to 20
Is this accurate? If so I'm failing miserably at life.
Please discuss.

>>1685834
I feel so poor now.
I have to get to $19K by 25..
>>1685834
hahahah faggot
I have $30k at 20.
Let's talk easy, long-term investments that everyone should have.
My question - If I'm not able to contribute more than about half of the limit of a roth IRA per year (The limit is $5,500 in 2016) [I'm a 20 year old college student with part-time income, and could feasibly contribute ~$300 per month ] is it worth it?
My work also offers a 401k plan where they remove 1% of your paycheck, match the contribution, and put it into a 401k account. Should I contribute to this account or should I just let the paycheck contributions build up for the next couple of years while I earn my degree?
Even though you can't save much, your advantage is time - use it wisely. Putting in $3600/year now and for the next several years will be much better than only saving several years down the road when you can contribute the max.
Also, it sounds like you were auto-enrolled in your 401k - you should check to see if your employer will match more, for example 100% of your contributions up to 3% of your salary. Always contribute up to the employer max - it's free money and an automatic 100% return. Over the next several years, try to bump that contribution rate up - maybe 1-2% a year - until you're either maxing out your 401k contribution limit (currently about 18k annually) or you're at about 15% of your salary
401K
IRA
Equities
Bonds
Real Estate
Commodities
Limiting yourself to just one asset is a recipe for failure. I max out my 401K and IRA. I invest in ETFs to cover equities and bonds. I rent out my spare bedrooms and plan on investing in more rental income in the future. I will purchase physical and silver gold basically because my wife is Paki and gold is like the fucking holy grail to them shit stains.
I'm going to be making $100,000/year next year. That's starting salary
>tfw you can't get IRAs
Guess I'll stick with a 401k and save up until I get into real estate.
This guy turned 100,000 into 30 million within 5 years trading stock options.
I tested there method of buying options on stocks that most people would think would never happen.
I managed to turn 9,000 into 217,000
