I just turned 20 years old and I have one semester left at community college and about to transfer to university. I'll be done with college overall with my bachelors at about 22 maybe the latest at 23. I want to start investing my money but don't know where to start, I see how people are making money flow with stocks and I'm very curious on how I could gain momentum, I'll have about $3,600 by mid January upcoming, what could I do with say $1,000 to get a solid start? Give me the most basic ideas on how I can begin investing to make cash flow and what websites should I use and applications to install on my laptop?
Get a job with a decent 401K plan. Either 50% employer match with no maximum or a 100% match to a $X amount. It's free 50-100% returns.
Invest a little in a total US stock market ETF like VOO.
Invest a little in bond market ETFs like EDV, BIV, BLV, etc.
Invest in real estate for rental income. I avoid residential and follow my Grandparent's method of investing in commercial property. They own offices they lease to dental practices, a small law firm, etc.
My Grandmother works at a factory and my recently retired Grandfather was a Manager for a construction company. I've seen tax and financial papers once a few years ago and they had almost $22M in assets at that time. They've sold a lot of property in the past 2 years and I think they are moving to Florida. Will probably blow through it all. But I don't blame them. I would too.
