What is a good stock to buy when starting out? Should I go for a couple shares of apple/big name companies or something else?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Whatever you are familiar with and trust. Usually you start out with a company you've been following closely for several years and you think (and maybe analysts agree with you) that their fundamentals deserve a higher price than the market is giving them and that their business model is sustainable for the future.

If you are a complete noob though: None. You don't start out stock-picking. For starters it's very unlikely that you just happen to beat the market with your perfect first-time investment. And holding just a few or even worse, just one title puts you under a lot of pressure. Diversification is king to lower your risk to a sensible amount. Buy an ETF to start out.
>>
>>1795506
But wouldn't it be safe, if Apple for example is low and I get a couple of shares and sit on them til i can make a 200 dollar profit then sell them?
>>
>>1795571
Well, as safe as Apple's future business. It's not like coming up with shitty products or selling a device that will explode in your hands is exactly unheard of.

Look, everything has a risk. Apples is a big company, but a very specific company - it's a US corporation, producing in China, a tech company, highly dependant on design and innovation, etc. If anything goes wrong with any of the aspects listed, they're in trouble.
So holding only 1 company means you have a high exposure to certain risks and in general your volatility will be very high. It can go up 2% in a day, but also down 4%. Holding shares from different companies in different fields decreases your risk exposure, because if anything happens to one of them, it's only a small part of your capital. It also irons out the volatility. One may go down 10% in a day, but the other's go up 2% and still keep you in the positive.

In the end it's of course your fucking money. Do with it whatever you want. If you know Apple and their business environment well enough to predict there will be no troubles ahead and you have further cruched the numbers and press releases to a point where you expect future profits and thus appreciation of the stock - might as well invest. Just be aware that there is no certainty of any of that actually happening. You're literally betting all your money on one horse.

Leaf here, what is the comfiest Canadian Forces job? Preferably one in reserve, a desk job where I can go back and forth like a pansy ass and get paid like an office drone?

Even though your question is not strictly /k related, you'll probably get a more informed answer over there.

Air force here, the clerk trade is probably what you're looking for but it can be pretty mind numbing.
There are a bunch of trades in the air force that have you sitting around doing nothing all day, but there's enough cool stuff going on that you won't want to kill yourself like clerk work can.

Air traffic control is probably the most "civilianized" trade in the forces in that most everyone is laid back and as an NCM you won't even be doing any hard work.
>>
I'm assuming you don't have a degree, but if you do then most officer trades also happen to be work from behind a desk and get paid twice as much.

What regulations do I need to keep in mind with regards to minimum size and habitability to avoid being thrown out of something I've paid for?

Simple truth.

Anyone with the money to day trade and see a large enough profit margin to live on has better things to do with their time, being either idle rich or in public service or non-profit, leaving trading in hired hands. Anyone without the money to day trade and see a large enough profit margin to live on is better off investing in a small business or working toward a higher paying job.

Then there are those poor unfortunate bastards on the cusp of real money who gamble everything on a few rolls of the dice. Most of them lose it.

Nah, I like to spend my time trading, then again, I'm retired.
But I'd say the rest of your post is correct.

Why would I put money here when I can use Vanguard ETFs for cheaper fees? Does the money come out automatically after you buy something?

Any way I wait to hear from you guys.

I like it because it lets me invest in a diverse portfolio with small dollar amount increments. If you don't have a lot of upfront capital it's convenient to invest 5 bucks a day. Better return than a savings account for a nice little rainy day fund.

I think fintech is gonna blow up in the years to come and they'll probably add a lot more of the "Found Money" offers.

>>

dude what the fuck does that even mean? why is /biz/ so retarded when it comes to RE?

If more than one person owns the estate there are only three types of tenancy we can be talking about, a tenancy by entirety (married couple) or joint tenancy (50/50, 70/30, etc), with the right of survivorship. Finally a tenancy in common, what OP prolly has.

Regardless of their shares, all tenants are entitled to the use, possession and enjoyment of the entire property.

these are of course for one possible outcome from many.

Ok, just so I'm sure, it's the concept that the US dollar has been backed by oil ever since OPEC agreed to only trade oil in US dollars, correct?

And because Trump is planning on decreasing our dependence on foreign oil through fracking and other things, OPEC may see no point in continuing the agreement causing the American dollar to plummet, therefore it would not be unwise to invest in precious metals ASAP?

Is it possible to turn around CAD$20 into 100-300$ online with stocks or w/e? I honestly can't find a job for shit while I'm in CEGEP and I have bills to pay along with my credit card. I thought about opening a drop shipping business but I don't have enough for the legal fees and advertising etc.

Can someone explain why the fuck a business would ever proceed in a venture for a project that has a NEGATIVE NPV? Why the fuck would anyone ever do that? Is that not a surefire way to just lose money?
28 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
What? When has this ever been a thing?
>>
>>1797025
Since you're using the term net present value, I'm assuming you're talking about a venture that has projected negative earnings. There are many reasons why this still might be a profitable undertaking. There might be valuable research & development, brand development, goodwill, intellectual property and other tangible or intangible assets that flow from the venture that won't appear in earnings. The venture might open new strategic partnerships, or open new territories, or otherwise open doors or cement relationships that yield profit elsewhere or later. And sometimes its just a question of doing more damage to the competition than you do to yourself. What hurts them, helps you ... even if it comes at a cost.
>>
>>1797067
Ah ok I think I understand what you're talking about. And yeah that's what I meant. So would an example be (let's just say in example) if snapchat was failing and not as profitable for the upkeep and Facebook bought it out just so they can force Instagram, is that the idea?

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, am I being jewed?
Jewish tricks? No, and please refrain from the antisemitism! Robinhood graphs are just shit and only show you an average, not-really-realtime price. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> How is it free?
"People" invest your settled funds when you're not using them, just like banks.

Are you aware how small this community is? Better to try stocktwits or r/wallstreetbets

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using stockcharts.com, finviz, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

Hello guys, I'm swing trader from Slovenia but short term gains (buy and sell under 12 months) are taxable 40% in my country and that's killing me. That's ridiculous.

What should I do, what are my options? I'm willing to open any kind of business in other countries if that's necessary. How could I take advatage of EU policy in that case?
