i need some help. my girlfriend is super self conscious about her looks. I tell her, genuinely that i think she is gorgeous and beautiful but she never accepts the comments

she constantly is saying how ugly she looks and how big her nose is. i dont see what she sees clearly.

it makes me so mad when she says these things.

any help would be great

was she ugly as a kid? That fucks people up sometimes even when they grow into good looking adults.

I was an ugly, scrawny kid in school but I've since filled out and actually wear clothes that look good on me. People tell me I'm hot/cute/whatever all the time, I've successfully taken girls home for bars and yet, for the life of me, I cannot accept that fact that I'm not ugly anymore.

I'm honestly considering seeing a professional about it.

Why are women more attracted to me when I have a girl than when I do not?

Whenever men see a girl never accompanied by guys we think "jackpot".

Women are the most competitive creatures on the planet. That's all you need to know.
>>
>>16470574
Two factors.
One: Almost every woman has so many men available to them. They have a lot to choose from.
Two: Women are very empathetic and value emotion higher than men.

Combined, they look at a man with another woman and they think "He must be something because she values him above others".
So now he's more valuable than the other dudes in her life.
>>
>>16470583
It could be competition (and actually it's more like, "hey this guy is vetted by someone else, he must be legit" a lot of the time), but I think for most women, it's far more likely that you've changed how YOU act, OP. You're not desperate. You're not chasing after her pussy. You act confident, cool, collected, and very much yourself, because you're not trying to impress or draw her in. Often times, what guys do to bring girls in is exactly what pushes them away.

Before you post a question, check here to see if it's already been answered
Keep your questions short and sweet for more answers.
And please no derailing arguments.

Avoid asking these common questions:

>Is it normal for me to go to a club/bar by myself?
Yes. Stop overthinking this.

>Do girls/guys like <insert specific look>?
Some do, some don't.

>I'm shy and afraid of people/rejection. What do I do?
Think positive, and get over it by practicing and exposing yourself to it.

>I like someone. What do I do?
Ask them out.

>How can I tell if someone likes me?
Ask them out.

>Where do I meet girls/guys?
Anywhere outside. Or online.

>Is my body part big/small enough?
>Am I short/tall enough?
Most likely

>Someone did something insignificant. What does it mean?
Nothing significant. Stop overthinking it.

>XYZ happened. Did I fuck it up with this guy/girl?
Maybe, maybe not. We're not in their head, we don't know. No amount of your walls of text will fix that.

>This person did something that hurt my feelings. Why do guys/girls do this?
Because shit people are shit people. It's not a gendered thing

>Would you date a virgin?
As long as they aren't insecure about it. Complex's are a total turn-off.

>Someone has made it abundantly clear they're no longer interested in me. Do I still have a chance?
No

>Where do I go on a first (or subsequent) date?
Pick one or more of the following: coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, ice cream, movies, zoo, aquarium, museum, art gallery, <activity in your city>

>That one guy who keeps asking about cuddling in platonic friendships
No one wants to cuddle you. Stop asking

>Brandon or Female Brandon
Piss off.

>Frog
Also piss off.

Women (who didn't answer this the last time I asked): what do you have going on in your life as far as recreation, entertainment, etc. are concerned? I'm talking about your life outside of school/work/other responsibilities.

Legitimate question. So I mumble. A lot.

I am an entrepreneur and winter is here so things are going to be slow until spring when I can resume work and start my next venture.

I want to learn a language in the mean time, and I feel like French would be easier with my mumbling, but German would help with that, but be more difficult to learn. I am monolingual.

What do you think? Pic unrelated.

>>
>>16470468
Honestly? see a speech therapist to address the mumbling BEFORE you try to tackle a new language.
>>
>>16470468
Mumbling isn't a condition. It's a habit.

You can speak English without mumbling so long as you treat it as though speaking another language. Focus on each word, etc etc.
>>
>>16470478
>>16470475
Indeed, but the primary focus is learning a new language, I don't care TOO much about the mumbling, I can work on that.
I just need someone to flip a coin and come up with a good reason for the result so I can move forward kek

So two months into our one year lease the couple my GF and I signed the leased with broke up. Guy got dumped. The girl is moving out in a week or two. Currently everything is split in 4 ways. What do you think my GF and I should do? We can't keep her here even though her name is on the lease. Should we force the guy who is staying to pay her share or is that a shitty thing to do? If it makes any difference, it's a two bedroom and we occupy the larger room.

What state do you live in? Laws vary.
>>
>>16470418
Generally if you're on the lease, you have to pay rent. Legally you can ask her for rent. If you don't want to deal with the hassle, then just split everything three ways unless you can find a roommate who's willing to share a room with the other guy
>>
>>16470425
MA. I'm not sure I want to go through the ordeal of forcing her to pay. Just wondering what is proper to have the guy who is staying pay.

How old are you? If under 35 or so it's a mental hang up most likely. Worrying about it will just make it worse.

I've never been able to grow a close connection to anyone. Not even my family. I have friends that would miss me if I were gone but I feel so disconnected from everyone all the time. Whenever I see a couple together, I get overcome with this feeling of sadness and envy. Envy cause I want that and sadness cause love feels like such a distant thing to me that I can never have it. I'm not suicidal or anything but everything feels so empty to me. I want to develop that connection with someone and to love them but I just don't think I can

That's your problem right there. I know you've tried to form relationships with other people---that is what you need to keep doing. If you quit then like I decided then you are too far gone. But you, you still state you WANT a relationship, love and all that assorted nonsense. Then keep grasping for it.
>>
>>16470749
I guess your right. I'll just have to keep trying. I just thought that maybe there was a trick I was missing or something. I'm just tired of hearing and having to think to myself "just keep trying" "you'll find the one eventually". Thanks a lot anyways anon. Have a good night

Can you have a baby and then have your mother look after it while you visit it a few times a week or month (depending on whether you will be travelling for work)

The child will have plenty of love and attention and stability and I could be like a fun mum

What's so wrong about that?

I've got the baby urges but my work involves not staying in one place for very long

Why not

Hey /adv/. I've been struggling pretty badly with depression for the past few years, and only recently has it been starting to get better. I've worked through a lot of it solely on my own - I've barely talked to anyone about it, and I haven't taken any medications. Recently, for the first time in a while, I've had a few social outings where I felt like my old self again; actually social and upbeat.

However, that state of mind is hard for me to achieve. I actively aim for it now - I realized that I don't HAVE to be sad, which is an improvement, but it's still hard to actually do. This is why I've been considering taking antidepressants, just to improve my mood enough to the point where I can actually function.

However, I'm a senior in high school and would like to keep it somewhat discrete from my parents. I'm considering going out and buying St. John's Wort and trying that out. Any reason I shouldn't? I smoke weed, too, in case that has some adverse reaction to the other, though I've been considering quitting.

stop smoking pot for a while
yes, pot does alter your brain chemistry
furthermore, your brain is still developing and smoking pot has been proven to exacerbate symptoms of mental illness in people with anxiety, depression, or schizophrenia. going back to the brain still in development, the brain can be easily damaged but also easily healed and you don't want it to ultimately get wired in a depressed state because you chose to smoke pot, right? smoke when you're older and not depressed, that goes for drinking too, worst thing you can do is self medicated with recreational drugs.

and before I get a durr pot is harmless maaan!
maybe if your brain is healthy it wont fuck you up too bad (but it does effect hormone levels and brain chemistry no matter what, don't you fucking dare say it doesn't or risk having your opinions disregarded), but if your brain isn't healthy you are going to make it worse.

so there you have it, a two step process. Stop smoking, then watch your condition improve.
if after that is all said and done you still feel dumpy you should look into further treatment.
>>
>>16470371
This is why I've been considering quitting. I don't know if it's really been a longterm thing (though it could be), but it's mostly because at the time it makes me even more anxious.

I really do think these antidepressants could improve my mood just enough so that I can finally shake this off. I'd like to at least try them, and this is what I was mostly looking for: is there any reason I shouldn't at least try it?
>>
>>16470381
if you want to take nutritional supplements that's fine, but if you are talking about real hard anti-depressant medications you need to explore all your other options first.

people often look to medication as a cure for these things, but they only exist to manage the symptoms, they don't treat the cause.
if its a true chemical depression that's all you can do, but if it isn't then some lifestyle improvements could be all you need.
stop smoking, stop eating as much junk, exercise some more, stop masturbating so much (yes even this) and your hormonal levels could balance out and make you not depressed anymore.

So I had a girl from tinder over my house. Im a virgin, so how do I....You know get it going. I dont know what to do. :( I'm 25 btw

Hey, guys and girls. I need some clarification on something.

tl;dr: Why are girls not answering my fucking messages? Why are they not replying even when they already explicitly said they would like to see me again?

Long version:
Let me give you a little context: I'm pretty much a 27 years old kissless virgin in "recovery" who is not bad looking, goes to the gym even though is far from athletic, has a decent job with average-to-good incomes. I still don't have my own place or car and my life is not really that interesting although I'm working on it, those are my weakest spots right now.

Recently I decide to make some moves with different girls in really different situations. This is what I got:

>girl 1
>know her for a while, recently single but already over the break up
>used to get along awesome with her
>try to take her out, always busy or already had plans
>goes on for a while until she stopped answering my messages

>girl 2
>friend from girl 1, single
>know her for a day, she's extremely nice towards me and invites me over to visit her at her job
>do so, have some good laughs, ask for her phone
>message her two days after asking how's she doing
>chit chat and laughs
>ask her out
>doesn't even check my message
>no replies, haven't seen her again since then (it has been weeks since)

Continues...

It sounds like you're asking out girls who aren't interested in you. They get the idea that you've used the friendship in order to get in their pants and I imagine that it feels quite degrading and hurtful for a woman to realise what you're doing.
>>
...Continuation:

>girl 3
>know her for two months but rarely see her
>one day we start talking on Facebook by pure chance
>agree to go have a dinner
>do so, go for drinks
>do so
>tells me to write her any day to do something together
>agree to meet again during the week
>message her on the following days
>"too busy"
>ignores my requests on the next days
>goes back to her country

>girl 4
>know her by pure chance on a friday night after partying, each one in different places
>walk home with her
>we have a few things in common and we get along well, it's like we already know each other
>reach her's
>tell her it was nice meeting her, compliments me back, ask for her phone
>gives it
>get home and message her so she can have my number
>chit chat and laughs, ask her out
>"sure, we can go out :)"
>tell her I'll write in the following days so we can set a day
>write two days later just saying "hey, how's your sunday going?"
>doesn't get my message (1 grey check), think she blocked me although I still can see her last online status
>has went online several times but I don't know if she got the message as I deleted the conversation out of disappointment

What the hell is going on? I gotta say that I didn't insist in any of these cases. If she didn't answer, that's it. Should I be more direct in my propositions instead of playing easy and asking for their numbers? Or is it that I'm a worse person than I thought? If that's the case, why would they say yes like the girl #4 or be inviting like girl #2?
>>
>>16470177
Could be the case for girl #1, althugh there has always been a lot of chemistry between us to the point of flirting with each other a lot, getting drunk together, stay up really late talking about anything and even confessing me that she wished she wasn't with her ex. Then she suddenly became a ghost to me, never get to see her, never looks for me like before, nothing. It's like we stopped being friends all suddenly.

My texting game sucks. I've gotten numbers from quite a few girls in the past few months after chatting with them in person but I guess I bore them so much with my texting that they lose interest.

This past Friday I met a girl who seems to like me; she texted me after we parted ways and said she was glad to meet me, etc. We've been texting ever since. I've made it clear that I'm interested in her by complimenting her looks and generally sweet talking her, and she's reciprocated so far. But I get this feeling of dread sometimes when I wonder if she's really interested in me or just talks to me when she's bored, or if I'm boring her with my texting. I've been trying to set up a date but it probably won't be until this weekend since her work schedule is kinda prohibitive.

What are some signs I should look out for or things I can do to keep her from getting bored of me?

>I've made it clear that I'm interested in her by complimenting her looks and generally sweet talking her, and she's reciprocated so far.
Don't do this idiot. Too much texting kills interest FAST. You should only ONLY text to say Hi, it's so and so, maybe ONE text to smalltalk if you're feeling especially gay, then just find out when she's free and ask her on a date or to do something together. It may seem arbitrary or unfair or whatever else to you, but trust me, I've learnt the hard way. Keep yourself a mystery, make an appearance of being slightly inaccessible and busy and don't over text.
>>
>>16470115
and what if she texts me frequently? Just tell her to fuck off?
>>
>>16470131
No, no... Just don't reply. Don't ever be rude, that shows insecurity. Then reply the next day I was busy (never say sorry or make excuses, just state facts), let's get coffee at X time at Y place or something.

I've been in a closed ward three times. It was pretty boring, there wasn't much to do except for watching TV, chain smoking and colouring those mandala things. One time another patient broke a window, and some more things happened, but overall I felt pretty safe.
If you think you're a danger to yourself, you should definitely go, but don't expect to get actual therapy and shit. Closed wards are for safety, not for treatment.
