My step-dad is a fucking leech. He eats all of my family's food, lives in our house, and doesn't work. Of course, I want to kick his useless ass out but we don't have a car anymore. Our's broke down and the step-dad took it to "fix" it. Now it's in his backyard in several pieces.
Due to this, he's using this to stay with us. I threatened him a couple times, but my mother doesn't want that. She's afraid that he'll fuck off with the car. What should I do? I need help.

Hey /adv/ what do I do?
To start off, my dad used to play the guitar ( there's a receipt in there dating back to like 1989 ) and I became interested in learning it, but it was in my sister's room (she was 'planning' on learning it, even though she's doing drama, singing and netball, while I'm currently doing nothing).
So what I decided to do was take it and learn how to play the notes, I learned how to tune it, where to rest my fingers and how to play a few simple tunes.
My sister didn't even realise it was in my room for hours (it was practically gathering dust, untouched and behind a few boxes), until I left my bedroom door open and it was right there.
So what she did, was she took it and said the following:
"This is mine, stop stealing my stuff"
I told her that I was learning how to play it and she said she was too, which she isn't.
I've tried to message my dad on Facebook (He's working in another country atm) and I can't get a hold of him.
She's such a pain in the ass, what the hell do I do? If you have any questions, I'll reply as best as I can.

Girlfriend has dropped a bomb on me in the past month
Before we got together, I knew she was going traveling for a year in July. Our original plan was to break up when that happened.

I was talking with an ex, while getting advice on my life, and she said that she was angry because I never "supported" her (though she has for me, which was why she was mad). Though her version of support was saying that she was physically attractive, which I never said at length because it's not something I believed. I dated her for non-physical reasons.
I don't like lying to people in any capacity, especially about themselves, but should I just lie to make people feel better? Is it better to tell lies so that they have better self esteem? I don't understand the thinking (especially in her case since she basically knows I would be lying) and would never ask someone to lie to me.

That's a toughie OP. I'm much like you in that I don't like lying and I'm currently dating my girlfriend for non-physical reasons too. Never really talked much to an academic advisor, never really had a mentor, I got pretty reclusive during my depression. I'm an older student (did military before going to school) which is why I'm kicking myself for not reaching this conclusion about wanting a PhD earlier, I don't want to delay my education any more. Don't really have the money to just travel around.
One thing I wouldn't mind is working on campus for a bit. I could still have access to the lab I worked in and all the equipment that went with it, so I could do some more work and maybe get some more papers out there.

You don't have to quit you just have to fill your free time with other things and gradually spend less time on the computer as a whole.
It doesn't have to be anything exciting or expensive or unusual. But instead of firing up the pc why don't you open a book or put on a CD.
Start exercising regularly and going to sleep early.
My weekdays I get home from work, spend 50 minutes exercising then listen to a CD the whole way through, throw in dinner and a shower and some reading and I don't really even have time for internet before going to bed at 9.

I feel like this world is eroding my good nature. People take advantage. People do treacherous things.
I consider myself a good person. I would give the coat off my back for someone in need. Nowadays though... nightmares plague me. I ask myself questions like "why should I help this person?"
This is causing a schism in my heart. I dream of being a tyrant and people fearing me for once. It seems the only time anything gets done is when people fear you.
