You're losing out on a great game with more depth than most modern RPGs, but it's understandable if you can't get into it. It's from a bygone era, so if you're spoiled by conveniences from more modern RPGs it'll be hard for you to get into it.

Play Ultima 4-6 instead. 7 misses a lot without them anyway.
You can also play the two Worlds of Ultima games.

Played it as a youngster with my dad and bro. Was very creepy, we got pretty far but never beat it. The theme for Playrooms is probably the most unsettling video game music I've ever heard.

I had a hard time enjoying 2 because it felt like efficiently defeating enemies was counter to character growth so the fights always felt unsatisfactory.

GOOD GAME DESIGN AM I RIGHT FELLAS?

So Turok is a native American warrior who was sucked out of his universe and dumped into an alternate universe where there's superintelligent machines, aliens, and sentient dinosaurs among other wonders.

In this game you play as Tal'Set, the Turok most comic readers are familiar with. It turns out, Turok is an honorary position granted to gifted individuals who are tasked with saving the Savage Lands and universes at a time by mangling the bad guys and being smarter than everything else in existence.

In the games you shoot dudes. You're in the jungle because you are headed to kill the baddest dude in the land, The Campaigner. He's responsible for all the clumsy level design and lack of crosshairs, as well as the cyberdinos and bad guys, but not the monkeys or the frog men.

You'll get used to pissing away ammo, learn to love the knife and pistol. Shoot the frog guys with shotguns though it's really satisfying.

Fightcade is your best bet but there's nobody on WHP right now. If you have a Switch, you can buy the game on it, then have a setup you can easily take anywhere.

That game is mediocre even by b-grade fighter standards. Neo Geo has dozens of games better than it. If I was you I'd just move on to KoF/Garou/SamSho/Last Blade/whatever.
