Why are beat them up games on the SNES so expensive? I just picked up this copy on a flea market for like 8 bucks, and i thought "meh, must be another average game". Then i looked up the prices on Ebay and went wtf
And no, im not selling it, because im from the third world and no one is going to buy from me.

>beat them up
rarity + demand determine price, not the genre of the game.

Shouldn't he be Johnny Kage?
They left the C because he was supposed to be Jean-Claude (Van Damme).
I've read Mortal Kombat so many times with the K, that when I read a book where the expression "mortal combat" appeared, I thought it was a typo for a second.

Only when he does hisShadow Kick.

I will freaking kill you.
Name a better JRPG
Legend of My Dick: A Link to Your Mom's Pussy.
Which is the better game?
Man less than a year between their release dates but between being 11 and 12 years old felt like forever.
Played them both literally inside out. SMB3 is marginally the better game but I think I love MM2 more personally.
SMB3 has actual level design and thus more than just two levels ended up being good.
>>3867948
MM2 isn't even the best MM game so SMB3. But if it was between MM4 or MM5 and SMB3 it would be tougher to call. MM2 is great but it's missing some fun features in the slide and megabuster and it has a pretty underwhelming array of boss weapons.
Does this game warrant its cult status? I've never played it.
>>3867737
Not really
>>3867737
I wondered the same thing. I was severely disappointed. Check it out for yourself and decide. Emulate before you buy.
I think it's pretty cool, but a lot of people try to sell it as a real next-level, transcendent experience or whatever, which it simply isn't. By no means should anyone ever spend $300 or whatever on an original copy unless they're just really into Sato, I guess.
I have wanted to play the Japanese saturne exclusive version of Symphony of The Night for years now. I have never been able to find a good Saturne emulator. Do you guys know one? Bonus if there's a rom of the game with a translation.
I'm not surprised you haven't found a Saturn emulator with that spelling.

Look, not to put to finer point on it, but you're either underage or drunk as fuck mate.
Get RetroArch or BizHawk and call it a day.
They'll do what you need them to do.
RetroArch if you want a fancy 10foot UI you can use from your couch:
http://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.5.0/windows/x86_64/RetroArch.7z
BizHawk if your using a desktop/laptop:

I've done multiple play thus with___years ago OP
You're not even tryingJust go to the wiki and look up Saturn emulators man, come the fuck on
Are the ps1 alien games good? I'm considering emulating Alien trilogy on my psp for maximum comfy since it seems to play like Doom so psp controls shouldn't be a problem.
I've seen the picture of a review of Resurrection from a 90's video game magazine floating around where the reviewer complains about the control being what is today's standard console fps control lay-out, so I guess it was kinda groundbreaking for a movie tie in game.
>>3867693
>Are the ps1 alien games good?
yes defo, trilogy is probs best overall but ressurection is legit tense and jumpy as fuck.
>>3867693
I remember getting this game as a kid and being scared as fuck playing it. Expect dark corridors and aliens in unsuspected places
>>3867693
>reviewer complains about the control being what is today's standard console fps control lay-out
i saw this in several reviews. their complaints are mostly idiotic because there are several control options, and you can configure it like previous console fpses.
the actual issue with the analog controls is that it's hard to aim. outside the deadzone, there's only a small area where it makes small on-screen movements, and it seems impossible to consistently hit this area. so it's better to make large taps, which feels weird, and even with practice it's still a little inconsistent because sometimes taps don't register and other times they move further than usual. and these issues were with a nearly-new ps1 controller; the problems were nightmarish with my normal ps1 and ps2 controllers, whose sticks were still in good shape.
no idea if this would be an issue with the psp.
as far as the game itself, i'm only a couple hours in, but it's been great so far (controller issues aside). fantastic atmosphere, choreographed segments (ex: aliens chasing npcs) are well-done and you retain control during them, and there are neat secrets here and there. and aiming becomes a easier once you get more than the basic pistol because you won't have to be going for headshots all the time. obviously i haven't played enough to recommend it, but it's off to a damned good start.

>"N64? I HAD ONE AS A KID IN THE LATE 90's! Ocarina of time and goldeneye are STILL 10/10! I think I'll buy myself one one ebay for $250 without accessories to relive my nostalgic childhood memories!"
They're both shitty, but you shouldn't let it bother you.
>>3867627
Neither particularly bother me because I don't know people like them although the second group driving up prices is irritating. Looking forward to the bubble bursting.
>>3867627
>Ocarina of time and goldeneye are STILL 10/10!
Most people even not /vr/ consider those to be 10/10 games you braindead troll.

Why live?
I could never get it to work in the first place. Not once.
>>3867534
I got it to work with some people, but it did not with a particular friend from overseas. I think it must have been related to one of our firewalls.
>>3867534
there are other options available now
why is final fantasy 2 the best FF game?
>>3867229
Tactics is better
well it's my favourite of the NES ones anyway
one of the better plots of the series and a pretty unique levelling system
great OST too, if a bit depressing
Dangerous thread, OP. I do like it better than the other two NES games though. Less non-functional shit than FF1, better dungeons than FF3, and the MP system is more enjoyable than spell charges. The grind needed to make some spells useful is really awful though. Some spells should've been available earlier and others later, like Haste and Berserk. By the time you get Haste, you've likely already had Berserk for a long time and have it leveled up a good bit. There's not even any reason to use Haste at that point, since Berserk is a far better buff and you can stack the fuck out of it anyway.
What are you currently playing right now /vr?
Picked up Ristar the other day. Currently on Automation World and having a blast! I've always heard it was gud. Now I can say first hand that it's actually pritty gud :^)
Gems like this are why I'll probably never stop playing retro games. Aside from replaying the classics, sooooo many games I haven't yet had a chance to play.
>>3866958
DUNE for Sega-CD came in the mail yesterday so that's the next retro game I'll play.
I'll also probably get to playing Ghost Lion at some point.
>>3866958
Final Fantasy 3
Didn't bother to change jobs for this cave so I'm just running from everything. Hopefully I don't have to fight a boss while still shrunk.
Link To The Past on GBA. Not happy with some of the changes they've made.
What are the best short retro games? (No longer than 15 hours for main story)
>>3866845
Really nigga?
Bumping a 17 minute old thread?
Have you no patience?
What kind of games are you talking about? The vast majority of non-RPGs can be finished in under an hour in the first place...
play shmups, most last like half an hour or so. makes them a lot of fun to replay
can you guys recommend me a comfy ps1 game while writing a sentence or two about what makes it fun instead of just dumping lists and lists?
im feeling blue and just want to spend an afternoon in a pleasant way while drinking whisky and playing vidya
thanks
>>3866749
Jackie Chan Stuntmaster
Also go fuck yourself. The reason people dump lists and lists is because these threads happen multiple times daily.
>>3866753
>hating on Jackie Chan Stuntmaster
Sure is a good way to start your thread.
>>3866756
its a clunky game with shit visuals and shit floaty controls. you cant dispute that.
first Fighting Force is a vastly superior and far more competent fighter/beat em up
So this past week I got a Famicom straight from Japan with it's original AC Adapter and RF. Didn't come to my attention till earlier today while playing for about 15 minutes that the back of the Famicom was really hot. I thought using a original Japanese AC adapter would be okay? Should I switch to a Sega Genesis Model 1 Adapter to avoid overheating it? Or does anyone have a link where I can get a US Famicom adapter? I only see Japanese imports on eBay and I'm not sure if that would cause the same problem.
>>3866616
Hot where exactly? Was it the back left?
>>3866624
Nope. right above and around the vents. Under the flap behind the cartridge.
>>3866626
Yes, that's where the 7805 is. It drops the 10V down to 5v. You might want to open it and put some thermal paste (Same stuff you get for PC CPUs) and try and put a dab of that behind it.
