Playing through and I can't stand the fact the final dungeon mobs give zero xp but a shit ton of AP, couldn't they have made it both?
It's a chore having to grind out the coins levels with everyone having 100k xp till level and each encounter giving 3k
I like the game, it's just couldn't they have fixed this?

Oh, look, it's the guy who remakes this exact same thread every other week because he thinks this is somehow an obscure game because it's Japanese and released during Sega's decline.

Ecco the dolphin. Fucked me up big time. I can handle water sections in video games be it modern or old games. Mario / Sonic 2D water levels are fine. Tho anything like Ecco or tomb raider water levels make me panic and turn the game off.
Fucked up thing is I've been scuba diving and I was fine. I love the sea and have no fear in the real world. It's just video games.

Although I agree that water offers some terror in retro games all the way back, I was never scared of it though I do have a fear of heights. I was literally just getting the butterflies from Mario 64 like yesterday but those didn't come along until 5th gen when I was like an adult so I can't blame it on games and I didn't get the hydrophobia neither.

I never ever owned a shmup and only played it once in my life. I have a Dreamcast and so many people recommend the shmup games saying how good they are. Thing is, being someone who never had one, a shmup just seems like a basic, uninsteresting game genre. What makes them so good that people recommend them? How are they different from each other?

The feeling of dancing between those bullets (and successfully dodging them) and killing dozens of enemies at once are what make a shmup cool
Shumps are only fun when played for score. If you don't have the patience or skill to practice a 30-min game for at least 10 hours, don't bother with them. Easy shumps, like Compile, are boring and thus shit.
How's this remake compared to the original? Any fun? It's on sale on steam right now and was thinking of procuring it.
Personally i quite enjoyed it, over 120 hours on steam and probably 3-4 playthroughs

It's extremely fun, but it does streamline a lot compared to the original, which makes for a somewhat simpler game. Still probably the best retro remake in recent memory.
If you want to be more faithful to the original, you could check out the Long War mod, and there's also Xenonauts, an almost one-for-one remake of UFO Defense.

I prefer the original. It handles too much like a boardgame and winning comes down to learning tricks which exploit quirks which the game's simple systems are full of rather than intuitive tactics and management. Once you work out how the game handles throwing more enemies at you it becomes clear that there's a most efficient way to handle each encounter and that anything else is a challenge run.

Nope, the only 16-bit MMPR games worth a damn were the fighting games (the one with the Rangers, monsters and Zyuranger mecha for Sega, and Tournament Fighters for the SNES).

There isn't, GITS is a unique game. You could try Jumping Flash 1 and 2 which were made by the same dev studio. It doesn't really play like GITS though.
panzer dragon,omega boost and zone of the enders comes to mind but these are kinda different
FWIW, the PS2 GiTS game has a level like it, but I think it's only 1 level, and it's super short, and no wall climbing.
