>No second thumbstick despite the fact that literally every other console manufacturer had by this point realised the benefits of one and was planning to make them standard going forward
>Terrible ergonomics that make it impossible to hold comfortable if your hand is bigger than a toddlers
>Decided to go with the gimmicky VMU slot, forcing the cable to be run out of the bottom of the controller contrary to both all known laws of comfort and the Geneva convention
>Hideous aesthetics
Is it reasonable to blame this disaster in large part for the failure of the Dreamcast?
Shitty retro controllers thread, I guess.
>>3883307
The number of games you miss a second thumbs tick on is tiny as the games aren't built around it. Ergonomically it was fine and the vmu bought some neat ideas to the table, it's the second slot that gets in the way, it's a shame they couldn't integrate rumble and get rid of it. Of course the cable clips to the underside of the controller so that it points in a way that doesn't offend you but you know that already and are just being silly right? Unless you've never actually used the controller before.

I think awkward release timing and strong competition were the reasons the DC underperformed outside of Japan. Sega was kind of the odd man out at that point.
Only Sony had a dual analog controller by the time the DC was first released in 98.
Are MUDs /v/ and /vr/ or /tg/?
You're on the right board. Sometimes a thread takes off. I played a little in the early 90s then I had a friend with a dangerous addiction to them in the late '00s. I met some other local MUD regulars they were very interesting people.
So then.Anyone here ever play HellMoo?
*tumbleweed*
Besides the Nee Geo Pocket (+color) and Game Boy (+color), what other retro handhelds have a library that is worth looking into? And I don't just mean for emulating, I mean for actually spending money on and collecting.
>>3883028
Oh God, I want that game boxole now.
>>3883028
>worth looking into...for actually spending money on and collecting
You shouldn't be making these decisions based on monetary value but if you are, any retro gaming stuff you buy is likely to hold it. Try not to lose them, handhelds are way easier to lose. I have a terrible track record.
>>3883028
Ahem.
The WonderSwan (made by Bandai) was also great and the color model was at a midpoint between a Neo Geo Pocket and a Game Boy Advanced.
It's killer franchise was a series of Digimon games which were ALL part of the official canon continuity between all manga and anime versions.
It also had great versions of known franchises such as MegaMan, Klonoa, Ghost n' Goblins, Tekken, and some Squaresoft games, just to name a few.
One of it's best Digimon RPGs had an official English translation, too.
Why is Geese such a fucking weeb?

Am I the only one who thinks vf3 aged worse than vf2?
graphics: vf2 aged better
gameplay: vf3 aged better
it helps that virtua fighter 2 is the only virtua fighter game that really nailed the presentation
Let's not forget that VF2 has a fucking masterpiece music piece in the game.

What are some titles actual hikikomori in Japan spend all of their time playing?
I want something "quirky", "well developed" & "immersive" enough that it can hold the attention of a mentally ill shut in.
Shitty PS2 visual novels.
prolly some shmup, mmo or grindy rpg like disgaea
Touhou, but it's the whole series and a bunch of fan games rather than just one.
They also spend a lot of time with the horrible online touhou community.

just bought a purple drank n64 with two controllers for $40 off craigslist. why does /vr/ hate this console so much?
also good deals thread
A good chunk of people who hate on the N64 are just resentful that it was the party machine of choice while growing up and not the PS1 or *chortle* Saturn.
>>3881350
Saturn had the good fighting game arcade ports though.
but yeah the whole n64 hate meme is console warriors that are still resentful, or just people who want to hate on popular things in general, i.e contrarians.
>>3881342
>why does /vr/ hate this console so much?
that is generalizing a bit
The console doesn't have a lot of games. Handful of really great ones but overall the library isn't very impressive.
What's the best retro DB game?
Super Butoden 2.
But I also like all the RPGs on Famicom/SFC and Game Boy, as well as Buu Yuu Retsuden on Megadrive, Super Gokuu-den 1 and 2, Butoden 3 and Hyper Dimension on SFC, and Legends on Playstation.
The only really bad DBZ games I played were Final Bout and Ultimate Battle 22.
Shin Butoden on Saturn was a disappointiment, but was still OK, not as bad as UB22.
Advanced Adventure

Eyy, that's not too bad!
I wish the NES had more reds, with that it will be perfect for pixel art.

It doesn't even have a proper yellow.
Time to rev up those Dreamcast prices! Metal Jesus just released his Dreamcast "buying guide."
What's your most expensive Dreamcast game?

how do you store your controllers /vr/?
>>3880714
>how do you store your controllers /vr/?
Sadly, I don't have multiple controllers per console, seeing as how I have no one else to play with. In regard to each console, I just keep my only controlled wound up and set it beside the unit.
I use these velcro ties to keep the cords nice and tidy.
