I've played dozens of times both BG, BG II, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale II, Planescape Torment and more recently Siege of Dragonspear, and never, and i mean never ever have bothered a single minute with spears.

Because Zoombini's had a similar game built in as a mini challenge for children and that was at least entertaining.

Btw how the fuck can i find where are the saves stored in the non steam version? I accidentaly deleted the game and somehow the saves are scattered all around the PC since i put my backups were the saves were and i still lost a huge chunk of my advance.

Had to finish it on PS 2.

I'm not sure, but I got the non-steam version too. I'm just hoping that nothing happens to my saves.

What is with the nostalgia for this console now, and why are normies willing to pay $250 for a unit with no expansion pack and a third party controller with no games? When did this happen? Japanese N64 games are cheap but OOT can still fetch $60

Help /vr/ I am a retard; how do I snap myself out of actually wanting to buy one of these pieces of shit?

Anyone actually own one of these composite-only monstrosities? I would have pegged the machine as the most pointless console but the Amiga CD32, CD-i and Jag put up stiff competition.

No one owns one. My uncle had one for a year in the late 90s but I think it broke and he threw it out.

If you want it, buy it. Just know the games are literal unplayable pieces of garbage.

why was it in 5th gen that every company fucked up their console except for sony?
172 posts and 25 images submitted.
>>
>>3873817
It's not really that everyone else fucked up, it's that sony were lucky enough to absolutely hit it out of the park in a way that nobody could have predicted
>>
Atari started fucking up right after the 2600.
3DO was the first and only console by that company, same with the CD-i, same with Pippin.
PC-FX was a "fuck up"? Not sure how it did in Japan.

N64 and Saturn didn't get to sell as much as PlayStation, but still they're far from a fuck up... except maybe for Saturn outside of Japan, but that's more because of SoA/SoE's politics than the console itself.
>>
Nobody knew exactly how to provide for 3D game design. Sony adopted a simple but flexible architecture, rather than getting tripped up by previous 2D design philosophies. In a big way there couldn't have been a better time to design your first video game console.

Why does Jagged Alliance 1/2 never get any attention on /vr/? How about starting it off with

> Favorite merc
> Favorite gun
> Favorite party
> Favorite overall game strategies (multiple teams, smaller teams, etc)

I started a new game of JA2 and I'm not overly happy with my primary party: IMP (mechanic), Hitman, Grizzly, Grunty, MD, and Ira. I picked Grizzly and Grunty for heavy weapons for when I get to Meduna, and Hitman because I can't play JA without Hitman Hennessey. I'm already sick of MD's shit, and I would normally have Fox be my medic but I played her last game. I'm tired of dragging medics around in my primary team so I'm thinking of ditching MD to the Biff and Flo trainer squad and hire Razor and an explosives guy to round out my primary party. Any thoughts? How do you usually set up your teams?

>In 1985, artist Akira Yasuda (Akiman) showed up to a Capcom job interview dressed in pajamas and a tie. He left his portfolio at home, saying fans stole his work because it was too good. Asked why he chose pajamas, he replied he wanted to look presentable and that was the only thing he owned with a collar.
>Capcom developer Yoshiki Okamoto sat on the other side of the room, amused by Yasuda's antics. Okamoto, himself known for pranks and outlandish behavior, liked Yasuda's work.
>Yasuda got the job.
This is the coolest part about retro games, IMO. Games still had low budgets, and the creators could still have fun. Like hire a guy like Akiman or Kitamura. Or base a hero on their boss (see: Kunio-Kun, Takahashi Meijin). Or take a literal diagnosed sperg like Tajiri because he had ideas and was full of enthusiasm. Not to mention devs' personal sensibilities (see music/design in Doom, Chun-Li's thighs), countless easter eggs, etc.
Nowadays game companies are 1000 people sweatshops, with marketing division having all the creative control. The average budget per game ballooned from $50–300K in 4th gen to $60 million today. I think they wouldn't let Yasuda near the building.

How important is it to most of you that something is CiB?

I mean, as collecting goes, I only grab games and systems I'm going to play, and I only ever do CiB for Discs, otherwise, if its just a cart I have those massive cart holders that I put everything in.

Trying to pry myself away from the mindset that I need a complete disc package for 32-bit and onward. It's very costly.

I actually have a 3DO (don't laugh*), and buying disc-only is so much smarter, one because the games kinda suck, and two, the manuals are mostly worthless anyhow since they have that wonderful tradition of "let's not tell you jack about any important shit"

Like, not having the manual to Silent Bomber has not impeded my enjoyment of the game at all. Same for Einhander.

*you can laugh a little bit
>>
>>3885702
I'm particular about certain systems. Pretty much if it's sega, it has to be CiB. Otherwise, it's nice, but I'm not willing to pay too much extra for cases and boxes.

Most of what I've found shopping around eBay has been really bad, for the most part. I picked up a copy of Blood Omen 1 earlier for PSX. $10 for very good quality. But other games? I tried looking at disc only first and some of the best I found within a decent price range was Acceptable at best. Sometimes I'd find good, but I always want to be sure the games work. I had a few a couple years back that I'd ordered in at Good rating and they just wouldn't read. Since then I've been extremely careful about what I order.

Carts on the other hand? I've had smashed packages come in because the shipper wouldn't let me pay for better postal services and I didn't care a bit, the game was fine inside.

Maybe I'm just crazy.
Also, I myself want a 3DO. Always wanted to try the 3DO version of StarControl 2.

RPGs that are essential?
Ones I've played are

Zelda is an action-adventure series, except for Zelda II, which does have RPG mechanics.

And which Final Fantasy II are you referring to? Curious that you mentioned FF1 and 2, but posted an image of FFVI.
