Sadly, I don't have multiple controllers per console, seeing as how I have no one else to play with. In regard to each console, I just keep my only controlled wound up and set it beside the unit.

I use these velcro ties to keep the cords nice and tidy.

I have one of these drawer units for my NES controllers. Dreamcast controllers I keep with the cords coiled up in a little rectangular basket that's just the right size to hold four of them. Those are the consoles I actually use the most, so those are the controllers I need to be able to reach on a daily basis.

Other controllers I just keep in a bigger basket with the cords coiled up and rubber banded in place.

Pretty much like that. Maybe a bit neater. For stuff I use on a regular basis, which is a lot, I basically just throw it in a few drawers. For spares I box them up by console and type. For shit I never use I just toss it in boxes all mixed together.

Personally, I bought a box of Ziploc freezer bags, put all of my controllers in a bag individually, and then stacked the bags carefully in a large Rubbermaid tote.
Cords don't tangle, they're safe from dust and smoke and sunlight, and the cords also aren't wrapped around the thing. I also don't have to deal with wire ties because I can just wrap the cords around my hand and slide them into the baggie where they'll stay wrapped up.

After a thorough cleaning, inside a Ziploc bag. Then into a box/storage container with those silica packs. Some are still brand new goes into the same categorized box/storage container too. On some instances where I have kept the original box (like the This Is Cool skeleton Saturn pads), the controller goes into their original box after cleaning too, then into the same storage container.

if they are light enough like nes and snes i keep them hung over the rod in my closet b/c im worried that keeping them coiled up for long periods of time will fugg up the cord

I use twist ties and I store the controllers themselves in one of those cube shelves with the foldable cubes

I have a tub full of controllers. There are more scattered about the house in various draws or hooked up to consoles. I also have a freezer full of consoles and there are more controllers in it.

I go loosely, tucking the plug into the loops to secure it, no kinks.

My mother came up with this idea. She told me to get one of these shoe storage things you hang on your door. Fits most controllers quite nicely. The only ones that I store elsewhere are my N64 controllers.

This. Wrapping too tightly can damage the wires inside the cord.

For any multi-stranded cord, you need to slightly twist and coil. I took an electronics class and the instructor was obsessed with twisting and coiling.
It comes naturally. The cord wants to coil in a certain way, and twisting it slightly encourages it to do so.

only the highest tier of cord tying of course. Ones I use frequently are just in a circle under the controller while its unplugged from the system. Similar to pic related but a bit looser.

I simply use a wireless 360 controller for all my emulators. Have some old controllers deep in a closet but I don't use them ever.

Yeah, the Saturn pads are my choice when I emulate. I started getting more because playing fighting games on GGPO finally made me break one through intensive use. I have tried other similar controllers, even the newer cheap alternatives, but I can feel the difference in play. A shame no more are made to the specs of the originals.

That's a pretty decent price, as I use twisty-ties and the Velcro may be more gentle on the wire. I should consider a pack myself.
