Arcade General
What's your favorite arcade game? What was the first arcade game you played and in what year? Do you own any, and if not, then which would you choose? Favorite cabinet art?
>>3885509
My favorite arcade is jambo safari.
1st i ever remember playin in road blasters at a chucky cheese in southern CA.
I used to own a cps2 cab with marvel vs stteetfighter and street fighter alpha 3.
Now i just own a mame cab i built in '09.
Dont have a favorite cab art. Maybe the style of the 80s games if i had to choose
Heck yeah. Anyone have a good arcade discord?
My favorite arcade game is probably Frogger, it's really tough though. 1st was either Afterburner or Aero Fighters 2. I own a MAME cab at the moment but would really like to start expanding into a few dedicated cabs, I really want to track down a Mad Planets. This isn't art really but my favorite cabinet design is T-MEK. My arcade rigged two curtains on either side of the two player cockpit so that you really got immersed in the experience.
Virtua Fighter 2
Cocktail Galaga / Mrs. Pacman (maybe 82 or 83)
I've thought about arcade hardware collecting, but I'm not sure I want to jump down that rabbit hole. I'd love to have a Sega Model 3 since emulation is buggy. I'd also like a CPS2, but the suicide battery on the games is a real turnoff.
>game gear
and nothing of value was lost.

I would assume it's an attempt to consolize it. One slot for GG and one for Mk3 games.

we missed you 20L5 goy
>Picked up a copy of pic related for PS2
>Never played it before
>start up
>runs at like 15fps
>consider playing it on emulator instead
Is SoTC a relatively stable game to emulate, could I expect better performance than on ps2? My PC is a beastly video editing workstation
Also no ps3 for HD ver

Not retro

I tried there and they told me to come here
Are there switching PSUs available for the Sega Saturn? I want to get a NTSC Saturn and run it on 230v, and step-down converters are just a fucking mess.
>>3907393
grab a taiwan/hK version. they are 220v.
You could just get a PAL saturn and swap out the PSU board. As long as the models match up, it should be fine, although I think there might have been some minor revisions that could require a jumper.

This. Its pretty damn easy to do.

I never experienced the SEGA Genesis because in my country almost nobody owned one, the market was dominated by Nintendo. Jeez I didn't even knew SEGA consoles existed until I was 13 years old visiting my aunt in another city and my cousin had one lying with dust in his room.
So what is the best Genesis emulator and which are the essentials? Also if it's possible an emulator that have a scanlines filter that is not shit.
KEGA Fusion is pretty good.

bad post
Sony/Nintendo Playstation/SNES prototype is being livestreamed on the Ben Heck show atm.
Is /vr/ generally interested in this oddity? I think it's pretty neat myself. Really hoping Ben posts some high res photos of the PCB at some point.

I'd honestly be much more interested in a raw image of the discs if they even came with discs that is.
I thought it had already been repaired and had been doing the rounds at conventions with people playing it?
Or is this the disc part? Was that broken? Are there even any discs?

>I thought it had already been repaired and had
The disc drive was still broken, which was just repaired. There are 2 homebrew games that were deved for it and they got the first one to boot, but not the second one.
Even the first one had some graphical issues though.
>Rondo of Blood
>Mega Man
>Mega Man X
They all got 3D remakes. And you know what? They're good. Take the Rondo Remake for example. Great art style, great colors, great new content, plays well, etc.
But the problem is that they are not the originals. Which means I'm always gonig to compare them to the originals, and not on their own merit. And the visuals are kind of a step down. The PSP just isn't strong enough to make 3D that has more detail than 2D.
Instead, they should have made new games in the same style, but with new story, characters and levels. That way it doesn't directly compete with the originals.
Maverick Hunter X fucking sucks you retard
they kind of made a 3D remake of star ocean 1 for PSP
they took probably the ultimate form of star ocean, and shaped star ocean 1 in star ocean 2's image. I'd honestly say that I enjoyed most of first departure more than I enjoyed the original, aside from the areas where there's just miles and miles and miles of overworld between cities/towns/whatever
shame the characters all got that weird flat animu portrait treatment that can't actually scale past the PSP's resolution

>Instead, they should have made new games in the same style, but with new story, characters and levels. That way it doesn't directly compete with the originals.
That would have been way more work and probably made the whole project not economically feasible. I agree the remake doesn't look as good as the original or nearly as good as would have been possible to do given the PSP's hardware but I understand why they did it the way they did and like the result.
It was pretty sweet to put the original on there as well.
do any of you do pixel art?
I've tried to learn to do pixel art, but I'm not sure if I'm good.
I had a sprite comic in the early-to-mid 2000s. For the most part I used edited Chrono Trigger sprites.
I think it looks good. At least because from the catalog I could already tell that it's a girl.

Why are western developers notorious for funneling money?
Pic related

Because a sperg on youtube told you they are?
>>3905523

What do you mean? Are you saying Trespasser was expensive to make? I'd believe it, this game had revolutionary physics technology. Their mistake, and it's why the game looks and feels so janky, was that instead of animating the models and only using physics for props/ragdoll corpses, they tried to have the physics engine handle movement and everything else it could. So the dinosaurs, for example, were constantly in a "physics" mode but the AI just wasn't up to simulating good muscle movements on the fly like that, so as a result the dinosaurs move like they're QWOP.

Shenmue was like $70 million so I'd say the japs were better at that.
Can you guys help me find the first video game I played?
It was for the PS1, and it had a gun con that looked like pic related. I can vaguely remember a evil looking clown on the back of the box art, but I'm not sure if I'm recalling it correctly.
All I remember for sure if the gun con looked like pic related (silver with a fake/plastic wood grip, and a bunch of buttons on the side)
>>3905492
Sounds like Carnevil but it wasn't released on PS1.
Otherwise just google "list PS1 gun con game"
Is this the gun?
>>3905605
Or this? If so, they're third-party gun-cons, so the game wouldn't be tied to the specific gun.
I used to play this when I was younger and all these years later I'm 22 and still have a copy of this game.
>>3905402
I remember it and played it a bit. I liked Lego island games and rock raiders better.
>>3905407
I played those too
>>3905402
would you mind sharing it? I'd be glad to play it
What is your comfiest game?
SaGa Frontier 2
Katamari Damacy
FF9
Sup /vr/, I'm fixing up a dusty old Genesis and I need some advice.
A little background, brother got me a Genesis/CD he found in some crackhead's house last September for my birthday, and I'm only now getting around to fixing it up.
All I have for it is the CD's power supply. Literally no other Cables. No controllers either save for the Konami Justifier. The real kick in the head is the one game that came with it in the CD system isn't even Snatcher, it's Formula One: Beyond the Limit.
So I know I need to get a power supply for the Genesis part of it. As for the RCA cables, will any old cables do? Or does the Genesis need a specific set of RCAs?
Then there's this port in the back of the Genesis part that reads "adaptor." I recall from the 32x episode of AVGN that it was for hooking the 32x into the system. It has no use outside that right?
Thanks ahead of time, will appreciate any help.
>>3904590
You need cables are for a Genesis Model 2. They cables that connect into the console are smaller than Genesis Model 1.
>>3904590
Well its a Model 2 so youll want to look up anything you can relating to that.
If you have money you can look for HD Retrovision cables, but they are pricey.
>>3904607
>>3904612
Yeah I knew about the model and everything. Didn't know there were cables specific to the different models though.
Taking a pic of the back so I can maybe get a decent shopping list going.
Literally only the CD's AC adaptor.
Why did Iron Soldier 1 and 2 run smoothly, but every other polygon game on the Jaguar ran like shit?
Not really related to what you are talking about but how do you find IS2? I played the hell out of the first one when I got a Jaguar five or six years ago and loved it.
>>3904574
Is there a Jaguar emulator? I miss Iron Soldier.
>>3904774
There's a handful, as far as I'm aware. They aren't quite as good as emulators for more popular systems, but they certainly exist and I'm sure you could play a few games.
