Now I don't really like that guy as well but you're being pretty hypocritical man...
First of all, you're calling him a retard, even though he quite obviously knows a lot more about electronics than your sorry ass.
And it makes you cringe that he fiddles with a one of a kind prototype console that has to be preserved as it is.
Yet all you care about is the price that is diminished by him working on the unit which you would've immediately sold off for it to rot in some collector tard's basement never to be seen
by mankind ever again.
Not saying that what he's doing is right but hell, it's the owners choice after all.
>>
>>3872242
and they said japs weren't slobs
>>
>>3873050
Well honestly for a short video series I don't really think he'd have the time to fully reverse engineer everything, especially considering the fact that he isn't even the owner and has 24/7 access to it and since there's no documentation for the system itself there's not a whole lot else he can do and I wouldn't judge his knowledge just from these videos. There actually is a homebrew game for the SNES CD called super boss gaiden so there is something.
Oh and I didn't call you hypocritical because you would take money for it but because you said he 'ruined' it when all you would do is sell it.
I don't know if I would keep it or sell it if I were to get such an offer since I don't desperately need the money.
Chances are I might but yeah, not what I meant anyways.

One thing I'll give him is that his builds still are miles better than the other crap posted in this thread since he at least puts thought into his builds.

I've made my own consolized game gear and the hardest part was making it fit in a box. It's so flaky, I'm worried it's going to break pushing a cartridge in.

What's weird is that some clones (by the company that makes the 'adapters') are actually wired to pass through the video as well, making them slightly less stupid. I heard you liek clones, so we put etc etc etc

It was just a fucking dumb thing to do. The fact that no actual 'snes' cds exist for it makes it pointless to 'change', 'fix' or 'upgrade' any of the parts inside it. Its better off in some museum.

Why would you even do this, to make it play audio cd's with non-existant SW and drivers that have to be backwards engineered?

I cant even think of a fucking analogy to describe how dumb this is..wait...

excellent point

that whole thing was the epitome of bullshit. And yknow what? Nobody cares after the whole bullshit youtube video presentation. Nobody.

It's the perfect Reddit mentality of quick cheap fame and "upvote" cred vs actual honesty or practicallity. The other day I stopped by reddit and someone took a picture of his recently deceased baby for upvotes, with the title "I almost became a dad today". What the actual fuck. It gets worse when you consider the picture was taken by somebody else with him holding the baby, then he took that picture and uploaded it to reddit. If Reddit people will take advantage of a dead baby for "positive" attention, I think you're talking the most disgusting hypocritical subculture on the internet.

Fair point. Preserving it in a broken state is the more humane thing to do but then again on the other hand...

Attempting the repairs gives us better insight on how it would have functioned and it was probably left in an incomplete state in the first place. I have a feeling as long as the case is intact its always going to hold its value.

I think you ignored the point of my post.
Nowhere did I claim that it's good what he's doing.
All I said was that it's definitely better than to just sell it to some autist collector who would keep it in his basement to never see the light of day ever again.
Also, there does already exist a homebrew title specifically made for the SNES CD, which isn't even that bad so there's that.

I guess putting it into a museum would be good but I think it's also nice to have people do research on it (and i don't mean fixing it with that just so you don't get triggered).

Granted just because someone is on reddit doesnt mean they dont have a degree or many years of knowledge in the field, but this whole thing just stink to me. (Especially like the other poster mentioned with the reddit upvote culture of self-important bullshit)

Nope! Reformatting a drive just erases the records of the physical locations of files. The data is still physically written on the drive. It's not like he zero-filled the thing.

>Do you have any idea, how much a data-recovery session costs? And that's with 0% guarantee of actually recovering usable data.

There wasn't any guarantee the drive would contain rare shit either. Shows how much YOU care about this supposedly "valuable" piece of garbage. If you aren't prepared to put in the effort to recover your supposedly "valuable" crap, you got no business having hot opinions about what other people do with their own things.

If you care about these things so much, why don't you buy them all so you can protect them from all the evil man children of the world? Quit making excuses. It's not other people's responsibility to not fuck up the things YOU care about.

"Self entitled logic" ? What sort of mental gymnastics is this? It's his stuff, he's obviously entitled to destroy it if he wants. That video you posted? I bet it made him a metric fuck ton of money. He took something that was worth money and made even more money by ripping it apart. The nerd rage it generated is just a nice bonus. He's not doing that because he's rich... He's rich because he's doing that.

Seems pretty dangerous to me. IIRC CRTs have a lot of capacitors and store absurd amounts of energy for long periods of time. These things could've killed him stone cold

Well, yes.
It's like a 5.000.000.000-pieces-puzzle with square-shaped pieces and without an image of the final picture.
Have fun with that.

>There wasn't any guarantee the drive would contain rare shit either.
But there was a chance.

His dad was a Microsoft employee and knew well what he had in there. There was an old post of him trying to sell it but no one offered a single dime for the system, so you can't complain about the system value or anything like that.

Actually, that's kinda cool, and not really that bad considering you can get cart shells for cheap.

It's definitively made from an original cart shell though, and it's fucking retarded and looks dumb.
>>
>>3905707
Meh. You can swap out the original PCB into a repro shell. Would've been better to use a repro shell from the get-go, but still not as a big a deal and tearing apart a perfectly good controller or system just to put it to some stupid use.

I barf'd. OMG why would someone do that. The screen is horrible but you can get a good one off Ebay to replace it. Fuck.
>>
>>3906903
it's a famiclone, there super small and the japanese market ones have 9 pin controllers, traditionally
>>3907065
yes
>>
>>3908334
The Famicom uses a 15-pin expansion port for controllers. 9-pin was only used on Famiclones, and I have no idea why since the 15-pin is an industry standard just like 9-pin.
>>
>>3908351
The fami 15 pin port isn't quite the standard though, it's way too deep.
>>
>>3908357
Yeah, I know, but it's still sorta standard, and a bunch of famiclones used that too. The NES plug is proprietary though, so only recently have Famiclones with those started to turn up, and I've only found one model looking at AliExpress.
>>
>>3908360
Yeah, once the patents expired and Famiclones became US legal you started seeing them with 72 pin connectors and NES controller ports. The world of clones is much better for it, honestly. Those famiclone controllers are so bad.
>>
>>3908364
>once the patents expired and Famiclones became US legal you started seeing them with 72 pin connectors and NES controller ports
Those expired in 2003, and I haven't seen any clones from that time with NES controller ports.

>Those famiclone controllers are so bad
I would consider them much better than the NES controllers though, even if they break. For some fucking reason, they just had to change the shape of the controller from the rounded Famicom controllers to a really sharp edged beast that cuts into your hands. Also, older Famiclones, especially those made by Micro Genius whose consoles were rebranded as Dendy in Russia had pretty nice controllers.
It really sucks how there's no good quality Famicom controllers made now that aren't just plain replicas of the NES's awful design. Especially since it just feels really cheap to not just get an original then.

Pic related is a nice Subor controller I've found, which might be better quality than the Simba's controllers I used until they broke, and has a gorgeous design. Unfortunately, they're only available with the DB9 plug, which doesn't seem to have a standard pinout, and from Taobao where I would need an agent to buy from. The Simba's controllers, I bought from AliExpress, and they were available with all three plugs.

Here's some anti-gore.

This dude gutted a non-working PSTwo and put a PSP's guts inside it. You can't see it here, but he even customized the PS2 logo to be PSP.

It uses a custom PS1 dual shock with a DB25 connector, but will also take DB15 Neo Geo controllers.

that's fair, the Fami controllers are indeed far superior to the sharp edge NES ones.

>>
>>3908606
Yes, they're often available with 15-pin too. But the Simba's controllers were available with all 3 types of ports. They also had a round D-pad, which is more comfortable in some games. Unfortunately, the color scheme is not at all as pleasing as for example the Subor controller, and they break after a while.
