Beta of Altering History 2.0. Final version I'll make into pngs, but it's a hassle, and I'm tired.

Make builds at your own risk, as I plan to revisit and expand several power sections. There are several modifications throughout, but the most notable changes are to the choice of fates on the second page; would adore feedback on that.

>Going back over D&D 3.5
>The books are entirely setting neutral
>They just provide you with a basic outline of a potential fantasy setting and monsters/entities that'd live there
>With the exception of gods in which case they have an explicit pantheon lined up with lore for each of them that they tell you to use

... why?

They also give you races, languages, monsters and a western style armory. You are seeing it as 'entirely' setting neutral because you are used to western pseudo-tolkienesque fantasy as a standard. But Try to use 3.5 to run a Medieval Japan or Stone Age game. You can't. System doesn't support it.

Now that's out of the way, much like the monster on the manual don't have to exist in your world as described there or at all, same goes for the gods. Like the races can be included, changed or excluded, same applies to gods. They merely gave you a base pantheon in case you didn't want to fuck around creating one.

Most of the games in 3.5 I played, DMs made their own pantheons and listed which races where or not a thing. Your confusion is unfounded.

OK fair but at the same time, at least when you say 'fantasy game' to a western market they DO usually think of knights, castles, dragons, princesses and yes, Tolkien races. That's just kinda D&D's legacy, especially the last part. I can forgive the game for it's 'setting neutrality' being with the caveat of it being a western medeival style world cause that's what the game sells itself as.

But the gods are SPECIFIC ENTITIES with SPECIFIC LORE and BACKGROUNDS and there's like nothing else in the game like that? At least races and classes are just given vague outlines like "They live in trees!" or "They're hunter guys who're good in the wilderness" but the pantheon it gives is incredibly specific compared to everything else.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just give you advice on what kind of pantheon your setting should have? Throw in a little "don't just let your cleric invent a god so he can have these two domains for no raisin" for the DM and let him be on his way?
>>
The default setting for D&D 3.5 is Greyhawk. Hence the Mordenkainen and Rary spells, as well as the deities. As well as the races for that matter. But you can easily have your own world and use all that same stuff. Hell I usually use the same deities if I'm not cutting it down to 2-3 because it's easier that way and I'm not publishing my setting or campaign for money so it doesn't matter.

hey bitches, i've never been to /tg/ before so i don't know how you treat yourselves but you can bully me as newfag and shit, i'm kinda used to it. Nevertheless, i'm here to share with y'all my drinking game which i call Sven, and for you to help me improve it as well. The main purpose

of the game is to

DRINK AND HAVE FUN WITH FRIENDS AT HOUSE PARTIES AND SHIT

-What do you need to play it?
All you gonna need is 4 normal 6 faced dice, booze and the forthcoming table. It is also recommended paper and pen for you to count the points and rounds.

-How do you play it?
First you determine how many rounds it is gonna be. 10? 15? determine before starting to play if you want there to be a winner.
So each round each player throw the dice. To each result on the dice there is gonna be a corresponding activity on the table for the player to do, and these activities are gonna give or take points from the players.

-What does the winner get?
I don't know about you guys but here at home we frequently order pizza and stuff and share the cash with everyone, so a nice incentive is this: the winner doesn't need to pay. But surely you can make whatever other prize you want.

-The table
On my next comment there is the table of the dice results and each corresponding activity for the player to prosecute. As there are 4d6, the results vary from 4 to 24. There are some similar activities for different results for it to improve the probability for them to happen.

Also, my first language is not english so if you have any correction to point out i would be grateful.

From CofD Beast, I like the whole "Embodiment of archetypes" thing and think a lot more could have been done with that, really using meta-narrative type stuff. But instead they made it 3edgy5u trannyshit.

So, /tg/, your Acolytes have finally managed to track down the leadership of the cult of Tzeentch worshippers who have been manipulating a planet's government for hundreds of years.

Kicking open the door, you are faced with a hook nosed man. "Oy vey, what are you doing in here, goyim?"

What do?

Where do you steal your material from?

Pic related. I've stolen a bunch of quest outlines from runescape quests and mixed in my own elements and spiced it up a bit, because none of my players have ever played.

Warhammer, too, in groups that have never played it. One of my favorite factions was a group of kobold that was essentially tau in underground tunnels.

Want 5e D&D PC stats for any race? Make a request here and I'll give it a go.

Long story short, I love the vast and eclectic array of races that D&D has produced over the years, I think 5e's current list of races is too short (and some races are abyssmal), I want to practice my homebrewing efforts.

So, I'm throwing this thread up there for anons who want some more race options to challenge me with whatever.

Just a correctional note; full fledged races and subraces are both viable, and whilst past D&D races are easier, I'll take a shot at anything that's given in good faith. I did a 5e sergal in one edition of this thread, and I'll do a Zora, Bangaa or Burmecian as readily as I'll do a Hutakan, Furchin Halfling, or Half-Dwarf.

Sure thing. This's my first draft; I'd like to include the "make shit out of webbing" racial trait they had in AD&D and 3e, but I can't quite figure out how to pull it off.

Chitine
Ability Score Modifier: +2 Dexterity, +1 Constitution
Size: Small
Vision: Darkvision
Speed: Base Speed 30 feet, Climb 30 feet
Fey Ancestry: A chitine has Advantage on saves vs. Charm effects and is Immune to Magical Sleep effects.
Sunlight Sensitivity: A chitine suffers Disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) rolls based on sight when either it or the object it is viewing is in direct sunlight.
Web Sense: A chitine can detect the presence of any other creature touching the same webbing as itself.
Web Walker: A chitine ignores movement restriction effects caused by webbing.

So, you think you're a badass dude, and you decide to invade the Abyss for giggles. You gather your posse, prep all your uber loot, open the portal, and jump on in. After all, it's just a big ol' hole in the ground - albeit one you could drop a planet down without it touching the sides. What's to be scared of?

And then you run into this thing about halfway down. It's so big it can physically climb out of the Abyss. It's surrounded by a storm of thunder and lightning, of toxic rain and screaming winds, with six demon-infested moons orbiting its chain-wreathed bulk.

This is Codricuhn, the Blood Storm. Mortals without count have fallen before him. Legions of devils have been crushed in an instant. Gods have faced him, and fallen. Even demon princes have been so scared of the doom he promises everything that they tried to halt him in his tracks. All have been destroyed.

Think you're bad enough to take him on?

4th edition's fluff was different from every edition up until that point. Grognards, of course, raged about this, spewing their guts out in purest hatred over every minor detail. But just because it was different, doesn't mean it was BAD.

So, I wanted to see if anyone out there has fond memories of 4e's fluff, and if there's anything in particular you wish 5e had kept.

Gotta point this out because it seems like you haven't yet grasped it; you aren't special for liking the flavor of style of one edition of D&D over every other edition, especially later ones.
In fact all you are is every D&D player ever.
And yet for some reason you felt you needed to make a thread about this even though there's people who have been you and doing what you are doing for the exact same reasons you are doing it for almost forty years now.

Welcome to D&D Maturity, son.
You've fully transitioned to adulthood.

For starters, let's look at something minor: I really, really loved the take on Gnolls presented in Dragon Magazine #367. Gnolls have had the same "usually evil, but not always" fluff and Monster Adventurer Valid status since Basic gave us the Orcs of Thar Known World Gazetteer. But, throughout D&D's history, even though gnolls were playable in every edition, they always tended to come off as just hairy orcs.

4e's Playing Gnolls made them feel different. Unique. It gave them an identity to themselves, and made them a great alternative for the "tough, savage, wilderness dwelling" race.
>>
No one does because you can still go back and play 4e with your friends.
