>Make that old woman an Archmage instead.
>Have her display that the True Fae are definitely not insurmountable.
Arguably Archmages are bound by such treaties, that Master would be more useful.
>my current game has a ghost, a ghost hunter, a demonic soul-broker, a werewolf, and a mad scientist
>tfw feeling smug because trying to run this in CofD would literally break the system in half but i play better games now
>>54358069
An individual True Fae might be too much of a mouthful for any single Archmage as well.
I know Archmages are powerful but the Gentry are kind of like gods.
Where where you when FNM promos were kill?

>We are making two changes that are related—FNM "seasons" now align with set releases, and promos, which have previously been foil cards, will now be foil double-sided tokens.
>The second is a move to foil double-sided tokens from the then-current set rather than foil cards from recent Standard-legal sets. We're hoping foil double-sided tokens offer something different and exciting. The player response has been very positive toward the recent foil Zombie tokens and the Thopter/Servo tokens, and they keep asking us for more venues in which we can give these out. We think players will find these rewards interesting and a fun reward for playing.
>>54354607
How Jewish of them.
>FNM and standard are dying, how do we save it?
>Uh...kill it even faster

we could use some foil wurmcoil engine masterpiece tokens.
Good evening /tg/,
in the last session for me and my group it was a first time of a PC death, two in fact, the thief and the bard, but luckily not my char. Now I want to ask you how had it come to the first PC Death you experienced? Where you Player or DM? Was it your character or that of a friend? Was it deserved, tragic or heroic? Let us share Stories.
>Mine goes as following. The Adventure began when we saved a young noble from some bandits, he invited us to his sisters wedding, w The party was fine, until more and more members of the family got attacked and so the baron, the nobles father, hired us as detectives, while blocking off his castle. But even than everything was fine and dandy, we fast discovered it has to be a other noble, with agents in the castle. We suspected the new wife of the baron, but we hadn't enough proof. While the bard and the thief got suspected because of some austistic actions, I myself digged my own hole. I tried to seed some rumors under the guests, to see who would panic and because of a critical speech success, I let a servant be captured. The problem was just, that the servant also had a success. And that all peoble I trusted and worked with, were the murders, including the baroness. To make it short, the bard and the thief were killed as the flew from their execution, we others had a chance to fight for our freedom, because there weren't enough prooves against us. While the two rangers merely survived and burned their faith points, my Character used his status, (is a high noble from a other country) to get a fair process and ended up in jail for one and half year and losed 80 EXP. (To put it in relations, in the system one-shot adventures bring some around 10 EXP.)
>>54353639
I pissed the GM off one too many times and had to retire my character without much ceremony, and that was that.
Not technically death, but close enough.
I fought a boss intended for the whole party on my own. I nearly killed him too, since my character was pretty overpowered, but I got cocky and wasted my destiny points to show off instead of finishing him.
>>54357194
Oh, I know that, thats awfull.
Which is better /tg/?
A system where you have 24 skills and each rank costs 1 EXP or a system where you only have 8 skills but each rank costs 3 EXP?
The prior, allows for finer optimization of the build.
skill ranks are for fags
>>54349872
Depends on the skills. Even if the overall math is the same, having to put points into Run/Swim/Jump, instead of "athletics" will feel pretty bad, but if there's not a lot of overlap between the 24 skills, it allows finer granularity and customization.
Looking for inspiration.
Has there been a Lovecraft Horror film as good as this one?
Even if they aren't as good or aren't quite Lovecraftian, what other movies produce that cosmic horror element just right.
While not directly Lovecraft, AM 1200

Or, The Objective if you like Delta Green. Pic related, it's on Netflix. Speaking of which, Stranger Things is a Call of Cthulhu campaign.

Are you familiar with "In the Mouth of Madness" and "Prince of Darkness"?
So I asked my players what kind of main antagonist they would want for the next campaign, and they want him to be:
>an undead
>a king
>not!mexican
>funny
>all things considered, a pretty decent guy
How would you do it?
>>54341556
Well, for the character, it's pretty obvious you want a singing, dancing disney-villain Mexican/Incan king.
For plot, since they want 'a pretty decent guy', the character should be a foil and competitor rather than a straight antagonist. Perhaps the plot involves racing to reach a certain location or acquire a treasure, and this fellow wants it too?
Or, actually, perhaps he in his incan rainforest city, he guards a treasure or reliquary which the PCs want to nick? Bonus points if he doesn't take attempts to steal it personally, and attempts to give them a good fighting chance to succeed.
>>54341556
Lewie, but Mexican. He's a pretty bad guy, but that doesn't make him a bad guy.
>>54341626
I didn't see one, let's get rolling.
I recently lost my SSD which held all of my 2k pieces of character art, need to re-collect this shit. Looking for witches mostly, Also masked spell-casters are good.
As promised, the beta version of Avatar: The Second Age is being released.
This 220-page PDF includes every rule, chapter, and lore reference necessary to run a full game, as well as a sneak peak at the adventure-in-progress, The Great Uniter: Episode I.

In the coming days or weeks, I will look into creating a forum for discussion and feedback.
As this version is by no means a completely perfect version, many aspects are still missing, incomplete, or imbalanced. Player and GM feedback will be key to fine-tuning and tweaking the rules in the coming months.
>>54324346
This is gonna be great
Gotta say, I'm pretty excited to see everyone's feedback! Take your time, of course.
I'll come back periodically to check on everyone's input.
>>54324346
What is this about?
Well, I'm bored, I think it's been long enough time since I've done this, and didn't Pathfinder announce an ocean-themed splatbook recently or something? Good enough excuse, I say.
I'll be dumping my folder of weird sea creatures (mostly actual ones, because let's face it, they tend to be weirder than the stuff most artists can think of) while also dumping mostly factual information about horrible deep sea things at people. Also collecting any cool pictures people might post that I still haven't got in my folder.
While oceanic games tend to be a pain in the ass, many horrible deep sea things look freaky enough to make into horrible eldritch things, so they might serve as inspiration for monsters in non-oceanic games. Also raise awareness of marine life and all that.
Now, does anybody have a particular subject they'd want me to start with? Else I just post whatever comes to mind.
>horrible
NO BULLY
Start with tentacle things.
>>54321157
I assure you I mean horrible in the best possible way.
Anyways, I'll probably should start with a basic explanation on what is the deep sea. It's, obviously enough, the deep part of the sea. More exactly, it covers all the stuff below the thermocline and below the seabed, extending down from about a mile or so. That covers most of the volume of the ocean. Seeing how only the first 200 meters of the ocean get enough sunlight for photosynthesis (and all light disappears completely at less than 1 kilometer) and the pressure rises enormously the deeper you go, it's hardly suprising that untill late 1800s it was assume nothing but bacteria and maybe so crustaceans could survive there. But turns out that guy from Jurassic Park was right and life will find a way.
There's quite a lot of fish living down there, although the population density is extremely low, and they seem to be doing just fine despite the darkness, cold, crushing pressure, and limited amount of food. Living at those depths requires specific adaptions, though, which mostly boil down to looking like something that crawled out of HP Lovecraft's nightmares.
Thus you've got an ecosystem that seems to be mostly populated with things with pitch black slimy skin, way too many needle-like teeth, strange glowing appendages, and extendable stomachs that can hold prey bigger than themselves. You know, cool stuff.
This thread is for discussing D&D 4e and the games it inspired, such as 13th Age, Strike!, Valor, and any others that I don't know about.

So /4eg/, what fluff changes did you enjoy in 4e, and why isn't it the sweet Green Dragon revamp?
>>54313634
I liked most of the new Cosmology. Astral Sea, Elemental Chaos and I liked that power sources were kinda linked to them, though I would have liked a greater thought put into it. "Arcane" magic was just a bit too wide spread, I'd prefer the power sources to be more specialized. Perhaps limiting each power source to only three of the four roles or something.
>>54314101
But the power sources were specialized.
Martial specialized in Striking.
Arcane specialized in Controlling.
Divine specialized in Leading.
Primal specialized in Defending.
Psionic specialized in being flexible.
>>54314272
Don't forget Shadow, which specialized in being bad.
I'm looking for pictures of vast empty deserts or wastelands, with patches of technology scattered about here and there - small hive cities, tall towers, shipwrecks, anything like that. Bonus points if they're wrecked and abandoned.
I don't know why, but this sort of a landscape always returns to my mind if I give it a chance, and is just the sort of a place where I'd like to set a story or a campaign in. But they seem pretty rare.

0/10 OP
Second for the Hive Mind
I've made a horrible mistake, /tg/
>Really want to run a game set in Planescape
>/Tg/ and others told me that 2e is fuckaweful so I never considered it
>Consider other editions like 5e or 4e even
>Also, try to get my friends interested
>They all like 3.pf
>I fucking despise it
>In an unrelated conversation on a different day the same friends strike up a conversation about why we don't like certain games
>I bring up why I hate Pathfinder
>Part of my spiel mentions I hate the system bloat and tendency to empower players to create super special snowflake PCs
>Mention the only way I'd ever run it is in Planescape, since in a city like Sigil where nobody could be a snowflake, since everyone is potentially one.
>Friends bring up my earlier requests and suggest I run it
I'm torn...on the one hand I really want to run Planescape, on the other hand I really fucking hate Pathfinder. What do?And assuming I DO go through with this, what suggests do y'all have for an introductory adventure to introduce my players to Sigil?
Just play the game that everyone else likes. The most important thing is that you have a good time with your friends. If that has to be with pathfinder, make the most of it. If it's impossible to convince them to play a different system, just go along with their preference.
Just make a bunch of house rules. The main reason to hate PF is that it dosen't fix the issues with 3.5, but it isn't really any more busted. More boring possibly, but not busted. Just ditch PF classes and use tome of battle+psionics(no erudite). There are some other comonly known holes to patch, but ToB+Psionics fixes most of them.
>>54369274
I ran Planescape in 3.x (I say .x because the .0/.5 turnover happened mid campaign) It was fun and insane and like you fucked up and said probably the one place where the system bloat isn't as much a problem.
As of now, I still play in 3.x. I'd like to move on to greener pastures, but most of my group doesn't want to learn another system so other than slowly pushing it out with 5e I have to just make the old fucker work. General Advice? Normally I'd talk a lot about culling bloat but yeah, Planescape, more allowable. I don't know about PF compared to core 3e so I don't know if you need to account for tiers. My advice to you
>Everyone creates the party TOGETHER even if they will meet in adventure 1
>Everyone submits their intended build -- if not a whole 20 level progression at least an idea of where they want to go. It's not written in stone but it lets you and the others know something of what to prepare for
>FFS start above Level 1, this is goes triple for Planescape.
>Let folks play Planars/Sigil natives or Primes as befits them.
>If you get primes from different prime worlds or a prime/planar mix, let each character's arrival in Sigil be part of their backstory. Again, have everyone at the table while you're all deciding where you came from and workshop it.
>How long any Primes have been in the planes can be variable from "A couple months, not really long enough to not be a green prime" to "Literally stumbled through a portal yesterday"
>Keep the adventure in Sigil for a little while; let them make some connections while solving a mystery or two, introduce the Primes to the factions (if you're playing pre-faction-war, especially) and develop allegiences
>See what kinds of ideas people bite on in Sigil and use that to guide developing future adventures. If they want to fight crime, maybe don't have the Harmonium and Mercykillers act as the campaign heels.

Let's mine some salt: what game have you played that you absolutley HATE? Bonus points if it's not Monopoly or Munchkin.

Unpopular opinion incoming: I hate Ticket to Ride. Gameplay is stale and boring as most turns are "I draw two cards" while you wait until you get that one card you need to claim a route. Sure, you have a little player agency by deciding what destination tickets you want but TtR suffers from the same problem as Catan: you form a game plan and strategy and then hope you get lucky.
That said, I don't think TtR is a bad game. It's a solid intro game that's good for beginners and does a lot of things well. I would just rather stick my dick in a blender than play it again
