I ran a few sessions of Fate years ago, and this will be my first attempt at running a campaign in earnest so there might be a few hiccups along the way. I started DMing with 3.5e, and and I've also run CoC, Savage Worlds, Into the Odd, Stars Without Number, and Dungeon World. My games tend to be a mix of light-hearted bits peppered with some serious parts.
Fate Core wants game creation to be a group process, so I don't necessarily want to fix the game to a specific genre/setting yet. Going into a game with strangers and making a new setting from scratch might not appeal to everyone, so I have some ideas listed below. New players are more than welcome! All I ask is that you be enthusiastic or curious about Fates approach to gaming (collaborative storytelling that embraces the metagame a bit, player agency, etc)
Here are two ideas I've been tossing around. Contact me via discord if you're interested. Hell, contact me even if these ideas don't appeal to you. I want to run a game that everyone at the table is excited about. These are just suggestions, we're ultimately going to make the setting together.
>A low fantasy subterranean world similar to the underdark in that it's a massive network of caves, some of which are large enough to contain small tribes and settlements. Gameplay would be about exploring and surviving in this world, interacting with the ecology, establishing relationships with other tribes, and perhaps finding out why the surface is inhospitable.
>Gonzo sci-fi adventures inspired by The Fifth Element and Futurama. I would most likely be using parts of Bulldogs! combined with all the wonderful sandbox tools in Stars Without Number. Gameplay would be pretty open ended. It could be very local, or you could have a ship and hop from world to world.

My fellow fa/tg/uys i need your help for a character picture like I've never needed one before. But first some backstory on why.
Our group had just finished wiping out a big hobgoblin camp that we found along with the local milita and a few visiting knights, we rushed the big bad guy while they handled the rest. Afterward we decided to throw a victory party and our half-drow bard was.. well being a bard and said in the morning he strolls out of someone's tent. Now our GM is a big fan of randomizing shit so he rolled some things first to see who it was: one of the knights, who on was like a 7 our of ten lookwise and then find out what they were like and thats where things got good. Our skinny half elf bard ended up with a
6'4 female Paladin who belongs to the order of Purple Dragon Knights, part of a rich family of ship builders who our noble wizard knows.
Now the bard is best friends with my paladin who's been encouraging him for years to settle down with a good woman so of course he encouraged this, and ended up with her pretty much waling up to the bard and saying "you're courting me now." It was the most fun we had at the table in ages. coming up with the bards snusnu waifu
So i need from you fine elegan/tg/entelmen is something on a human, 6'4 female paladin, armor or not of amazon proportions, say a 6-7 on the hotness scale. we didn't get out the fine details so stuff like hair color is open, in armor or just nice clothes (her family is rich as HELL)
It's not for me my friends, it's to torment my best buddy. Please my friends.
>>54285014
Drawthread buddy. We don't get drawfags outside of the thread unless we manage to create a new meme or attempt to create a waifu.
>>54285059
not even asking for something custom, just any pics you have lying around that seem to fit close to that. this isn't an exact science and she's an NPC so its not like we're invested in details, just need help
>>54285014
switch the before and after. it would be much more interesting. a story about domesticating a strong powerful warrior woman into a doting waifu
Triple Deck Edition.
Talk about botes, bote based wargaming and RPGs, and maybe even a certain bote based vidya that tickles our autism in just the right way.

Neat! Never saw a triple deck in air pics. Were they any good?
>>54282969
Just started reading the article on it. Apparently no.
I'm surprised they didn't try using catapults for the lower decks since they weren't long enough for heavier aircraft to take off from.
>>54283053
Like hangar cats? Could work, but, how you recover the aircraft? Using the upper deck? That would overwhelm it
Where did the stereotype that magic users should be bad at swordfighting came from?
Is it just the fault of D&D class balancing?
>>54406528
Specialization. Magic is often implied to be very time-consuming or require a lot of focus to practice, and in general, the main benefit of living in a civilization where not every member of society has to devote all of their time to making food so they won't die is that others can specialize and therefore become more efficient/developed in those fields. Essentially, it's for the same reason that most PHD astrophysicists aren't FBI or SWAT. They just have spent their time and attention on a different field.
That said, there ARE clearly exceptions, and people with overlap. For example, most editions of DnD allow for multiclassing or swordmage/gish type classes. Do you have trouble grasping these concepts or do you just want a character who is the best at everything all the time?
>>54406528
from classic western folk stories? do you even live in a western country or are you from the middle east?
ENCHANTED SWORD MOTHERFUCKER
The real question is why dont wizards use their swords AS magic staffs
>Combat takes forever no matter the system
How can I make combat in my campaigns take less time?
This shit always takes at least an hour.
>>54406323
Play with players who know the rules.
Use a timer, they get 1 minute to announce what they are doing then it's over.
Play games where combat is either brutal and short, or designed to be fast.get them to play Strike! is what I'm saying
>>54406323
Use tools or one of your players to keep track of initiative.
Don't have every enemy fight to the death.
Know the rules.
Don't reference the source books for every question. Make a quick decision when a problem arises, then check between combats or sessions.
Have fewer combats, especially random encounters.
>>54406323
Play one of the many systems in which combat is a one or two roll affair.
Is their a way to play 40k, without using the 40k rules?
>>54406105
One Page Rules are a thing that exist.
Sure. Play 40k. The rules are made up and the points don't matter.
>>54406105
Explain your reasons for not using the actual rules and we'll be better able to advise.
I present you with the Primarch of the II Legion.
>>54405248
Oh, so that's why nobody speaks of him.
>>54405261
They dont speak of him because the emperor forebade it
>>54405248
Did he specialise in radical BMX tricks?
Doing some crappy tcg.
I have 4 factions: Soldiers, Forest spirits; Steampunk machines AAAAND evil monsters (vampire/zombie/ghoul shit)
Which one you would you choose?
Which one would you add, guys?
>>54404214
Working under a few assumptions of how each of these factions play, I'd choose Forest Spirits. I'd imagine that:
Soldiers are a more defensive, direct faction that focus on surviving their opponent's plays to deal with their opponent's creatures while keeping their own numbers up
Forest Spirits focus on manipulation/control of your opponent's creatures, while being made up of mostly weak creatures (fairies, gnomes, etc.) with trickery-based effects, possibly with a few larger, stronger but less tricky creatures to act as guardians (ents, dire wolves, something like that)
Steampunk Machines focus on direct, offensive strategies based around stronger monsters that maybe have some kind of revival/repair mechanic but are otherwise a one-and-done kinda thing, and,
Evil monsters would be the counterpart to the Soldiers, focusing on revival of their weaker "minion" creatures/turning defeated enemy creatures into minions to apply pressure to the enemy, while having a few stronger units that act as "bosses" of some kind, maybe enabling revival/conversion in the first place.
As for what faction to add, maybe Elementals, maybe with Earth elementals being durable guardians, Fire elementals being the main source of direct damage, and Wind and Water elementals focusing on manipulating single-target enemies?
>>54404214
Steampunk machine, but then again, im a skub loving idiot
>>54404596
fuk u and ur skub
How do you guys start your games off? I usually start off with the characters in the middle of combat or a stressful social situation. I avoid "you're at an inn..." at all costs, but it's sometimes hard to think of starting situations that really start off on an active note.
>>54404020
Too much combat gets boring anon.
I always start the party in a social gathering.
>>54404091
I agree, that's why I'm looking for more situations. Basically just want to avoid the players standing around not knowing what to do at all costs.
>>54404111
Throw the odds so hard against them that they have to find a non-combat way to solve a problem.
This keeps my games fresh.
Maybe they will die but it will be a lesson for future games.
>pick up 13th Age
>it's literally everything that D&D 5e should have been
>but it doesn't have the D&D seal on it so nobody plays it
why live
Not a huge fan of the way Heinsoo and Tweet use sidebars to argue with each other.
>>54403905
>DnD is bad memes
Stupid shitposter.
The Icon system is a good idea badly implemented. It's not a bad idea at the start, but rolling ~12d6 every session, and having ~4 of them come up in play, is overly complicated and narratively fucked.
Why do people pick paladins? It seems like shouting "Hey DM I'm inflexible please target me."
>>54403829
Because they play with people who aren't complete spergs. At least, that's usually the plan.
Hot take: Paladins should be a fighter subclass with access to holy spells.
Probably because they want to play as paladins.
>Hey DM I'm inflexible please target me.
If your DM's an asshole, maybe you should find a new one.
What sort of Ideological split could cause a solar system wide cold war?

Skub
>>54402410
"peace" after a successful colonial war of independence
Mars or Jovian Moons vs Earth seems about right for that

An entire nation comprised of the Jupiter moons is a cool idea.

Could the art work of this upcoming Alpha legion book be the new 8th edition Chaos Primaris Space marines??
The armor looks similar in a sense. Especially the helmets.
>Upon the oceanic hive world of Tsadrekha, the darkness of the Noctis Aeterna is held at bay by the golden light of a unique beacon. Yet as sharks are drawn to blood, so the ravening warbands of the Heretic Astartes circle the planet, warring to claim this rich prize for their Dark Gods. Now, one of those warlords has deployed a secret weapon to end the deadlock. Kassar and his elite band of Alpha Legionnaires, the Unsung, must infiltrate the planet, using all their cunning and warrior skill to overcome the planets defenders and corrupt the beacon. They need to work fast, for none other than Khârn the Betrayer himself has come to lead the final assault. As a rising tide of apocalyptic warfare consumes Tsadrekha, Kassar and his brothers must race for the prize or be consumed by the fury of the storm.
Book summary for anyone interested.
I thought it was obvious that the Alpha Legion had stolen Mark X armor and disguised themselves as UMs.
>>54401416
I think they are just undercover ultramarines. I mean look at their armor and that exposed face. They are all pristine and don't show signs of Chaos mutation or warping. Those are not CSM.
>>54401416
meme aside they did say 1 loyalist will turn chaos and 1 chaos will turn loyalist.
AL legion and DA are both the sole contenders of the switch
So, you are the deciding factor as to whether or not an alien race lives or dies. You task them with bringing some examples of why they’re worthy of keeping around.
They present the following:
Softcore Porn
A Telescope
A Travel Brochure
A Sci-fi Flick about Space Travel
Some R&B Music
And a Somber Photo Album from a Funeral Home.
