How would you feel about a Theme option for 5th edition, for higher powered campaigns? For reference, Themes were an option introduced midway through 4e that anyone could take, that added features at 1st, 5th, and 10th level.

Monk, I absolutely hate the flavour and context of a kung fu zen-monk romping around a fantasy context.

As a GM, my distaste for them is so great that I only allow them in games if they are coupled with the Far-traveller background, to represent that these skills HAD to have come from an exotic, far away land.

I know it's kind of No-Fun of me, but it is one of my pet peeves. A player in one of the games i'm playing in is a Gnome Monk, whos character has no thought put into it to link him to that kind of class.

He is just a Gnome merchant who is decent at a fist fight, and apparently this eventually allows him to control his natural magic to leap 15 feet vertically, channel his inner chakra to heal himself, and become so zen-peaceful that enemies do not target him in combat due to the serene aura of ki he harnesses.

And also this gnome merchant medidates every rest, he doesn't know why.

The GM knows it pisses me off, so allows the shitty character concept.

Meh. could be better. Blue needs a lots of support to make a decent control deck but I think there's just no in between for a miracles type deck and whatever passes for control in modern desu. Esp. if WOTC isn't considering printing FOW in modern. It's all pretty much linear combo, aggro, and midrange. But there are lots of types for each so it's way better than anything standard or frontier will ever do.

It's literally the best kind of worldbuilding. Just because it's not masturbating over the elf and dwarf war of nobody-remembers-why-or-when they still hold a grudge over to this day doesn't mean it's not good worldbuilding.

Anybody try out the Morghoul2 gunline thing yet? That guy's probably about as close to Denny1 as Skorne is ever going to get. 21" threat on the feat (without a charge), him and puffypants each toss out a Mortality, and he Fate Walkers back to safety... then your army shoots the snot out of em. Are there any guns in Skorne that DON'T love having +6 to hit and +2 to damage?

It might even be the way to play the Venator theme... you lose access to Molik, but you do get a wall for Morgs to hide behind mid-table, plus a couple free catapults (which can actually hit things under his feat). Seems good.

Related query; would you consider this interpretation of gnolls to be "magical realm"?

Gnolls reign over their own empire in the "not!Africa" region; a tropical and arid land of savannahs and open scrubland. Their "hat" is "Decadent But Dangerous Easterners"; their empire is built on a combination of martial skill, trade in luxuries (fine metal work, gems, drugs, black magic).

The gnolls worship a pantheon of "dark gods", somewhere between demon princes who've chilled out on the whole "destroy everything" rhetoric and lesser gods. Chief of the pack is Lamashtu, who fits the "Dark Mother" godly archetype - wicked and lusty chief goddess with powers over nature and fertility. The lesser gods in the pantheon are focused on roles such as war, various forms of hedonism (gluttony, carnality, drug-use, fine art, excess decoration), and magic.

Driving philosophy of the gnolls is hedonism: the purpose of life is to seek pleasure and indulge yourself. They lean strongly as a race towards Chaotic Neutral; self-centered, impulsive and lazy, but not inherently hostile towards other races as a matter of default. A typical gnoll wants to throw parties where she can lounge around on silk divans wearing shiny jewelry whilst eating and drinking herself into a stupor, not destroy cities and eat live babies.

Technically, gnolls are matriarchal, as the females are bigger and stronger than the males and claim this represents the nature/blessing of Lamashtu herself. In practice, the prevalance of necromantic talents amongst the males means that many males exert open political power, as the empire depends on them to run things.

See, the empire's workforce is built on necromancy on a massive scale. Armies of skeletons, bone golems and other skeletal undead form the grunt labor that keeps the empire running by doing all the boring task.

The empire also makes heavy use of conventional slavery. As such slaves are required to do tasks that require independent thought and finesse, however, they are not as oppressed and downtrodden as they might be. A living slave is a valuable piece of property and treated as such. It's even possible for a slave to win freedom through loyalty and skill.

With none of the traditional constraints on drugs, alchemy or magic, the gnoll empire is a hotbed of black market trade and a veritable mecca for necromancers, warlocks and jaded hedonists.

Although its existence rankles many of the more hardline goodly faiths, the gnoll empire goes unchallenged because of its legitimate trade and because, so far, the other kingdoms have accepted it's better to have them content and lazy than roused to savage wars of vengeance; unlike hobgoblins, they're not particularly ambitious conquerors and so acts of aggression are comparatively rare.

Houserules I've seen that seem good/I like:
Sum-to-12, if you trust your players to use it to diversify.
Cranking up the free Knowledge and Contact points, so that people have a better network, and that you can afford to pick up hobby shit easier.
Alchemy as just a success test, rather than the clusterfuck it is. Also, remove the extra drain on preparations.
Let MysAds/Adepts buy PP after chargen at like 10 Karma each, so you aren't forced into that one metamagic.
Change how the Ways work, and make them give you an extra PP per 2 Magic, which can only be spent on that Way's powers, the other bonuses they give stay the same.
