I'm thinking about running The One Ring for some folks over Roll20- does anybody have any good GM advice? Experience playing it? Reading suggestions?
No particular advice, as I'm not that much experienced still, but I feel compelled to bump my fav system.

I would love to try it out, but living out in the boonies prevents me from finding anyone to play with

Most busted creature of all time?
Yeah it's pretty much on par with delver and mother of runes.
>>51889244
Assuming not b8, you should really lurk more. Gearhulk might be up there for standard but compare to cards such as
>Mother of Runes
>Hermit Druid
>Tarmogoyf
>Deathrite Shaman
Or if you're looking for bigger stompier stuff
>Primeval Titan
>Emrakul, the Aeon's Torn
>Griselbrand
Personally, I think the most busted creature in MtG isan awakened island. Tapping for U is too strong.
>>51889295
>delver and mother of runes
You fucked up anon, you obviously meant to say Goyf and Snapcaster.
Can your elves grow beards?
No. Humans, orcs, and dwarves can. Gnomes can only grow mustaches and halflings can only grow sideburns.
>>51888238
Do your elves buy fake beards from humans?
Yes, but elven hair naturally grows straight
How do I properly describe gore? Assuming my players are fine with the visceral details.
>>51885298
Just describe your image.
Jesus fuck what the hell is that from?
That's some Slaughterhouse nine shit right there. Seconding the request for sauce.
>>51885298
Well, you clearly didn't just make this thread because you had an image you wanted to post on /tg/.
So tell us about your game, OP! What system are you using, what are the player characters like, how long have you been running it, etc.

How would you portray a creature that is to humans as humans are to cockroaches?
Think of how much more advanced the thoughts, perceptions, intellect, and societies of humans are compared to cockroaches. Could a cockroach comprehend even a sliver of what a human thinks and senses?
Think of how a human is disgusted by the sight of a cockroach, how the cockroach waits unwittingly as the human grabs a bludgeoning instrument or a can of bug spray, and how the cockroach goes splat or gets smothered in poison.
Think of how the human is so annoyed to realize that there will always be more cockroaches, yet is impressed by how resilient the cockroach is to the elements.
Now, take all of that, and try to imagine a creature we would legitimately be nothing more than cockroaches to.
How could you ever accurately portray such a thing?
>>51894119
The Tarrasque or any supposedly "unintelligent" mythical beast.
Their actions only appear to be unintelligent to us because our grasp and view of reality is so limited.
The same reason cockroaches might view us as basic, destructive, and impervious giants because of their limited intelligence and perspective of reality; when we are truly so much more than that.
>Think of how a human is disgusted by the sight of a cockroach
Maybe I'm autistic but I don't get disgusted by cockroaches nor do I go out of my way to kill them unless they are in the kitchen. Otherwise I put them outside sometimes, let them go, or squish them. It's a crapshoot. But they don't make me fly into murderous rages.
>How would you portray a creature that is to humans as humans are to cockroaches?
They are called high function sociopaths.

Whats the best way to play a Hemomancer without them being an evil and/or edgy fuck?
And what system would best facilitate this?
Picture oh so unrelated.
In general? Don't be a dick and try to interpret their powers in a neutral or positive way.
I played a character in Legends of the Wulin using a custom Internal style based around blood manipulation http://wulinlegends.pbworks.com/w/page/61369015/Blood%20Forged%20Body
While it can be used as a Corrupt style, outright evil and disruptive, it was written with the option to use it in a balanced way.
The character tried to be a righteous swordsman, fighting for good despite the dark associations of their technique. It was pretty fun.
Well if you're just using blood to power spells you don't need to look covered in it all the time. Just coming off as kind of pale and malnourished would seem like enough.
If you're talking about making swords out of your own blood or some shit there isn't much you can do to not make it at least a little edgy
>>51893979
Yeah I mean the later. I like the idea of a mage using their own blood to fight and such. But I guess the concept is just inherently edgy?

How is magic used on an economic/industrial scaling in your setting?
>>51893467
Old Commoner poster from the previous thread here. Magic is used in this campaign to allow us to even farm at all in the rugged terrain we've settled in. Druidic/fey magic mushrooms were planted in large circles, which gave us just enough of a connection to the spirit realms that the land is purified of basically magical radiation (called "the Hexing" in-setting). These mushrooms must be "watered" each morning, after dawn but before noon, by the Create Water spell or they will begin to wither. (In-universe reason is because the DM ruled the water from that spell comes from the plane of water, and possesses minor magical properties that the mushrooms need to survive).
In other news, thinking Champ Fighter or Kensei Monk.
>>51893467
Only in very specific cases. Getting new shit is hard as all the negative year's magics don't work the same way since some serious bullshit went on that fucked up all the planes. Between that and a naturally chaotic leaning of the setting people simply can't band together with much efficiency. Best cases are gnomes in the north eastern quadrant (close to the 'prime meridian') who have a somewhat thriving little magitech industry that, in concert with goblin's pure technological prowess and kobold inventiveness, is starting to get to firearms out. A lot of it is producing 'normal' magic items like bags of holding and caps of water breathing though because exploration.
Some enterprising anon posted about a way to import the entire monster manual into roll20 in a really useful way somewhere in the last few days, and since I was lurking on my phone I didn't get the chance to test it out. Anyone know what those links were?
What are the major differences between D&D 4e and 5e? I have never play a tabletop RPG before - which one is easier to start with?
>>51888385
4e its explicitly designed to get newbies into the hobby which is why grogs hate it.
4e is a mechanically deep game with a strong design concept and a focus on tactical combat. It focuses on giving you a variety of interesting and enjoyable tools to use in said combat while leaving utility and flavour stuff secondary. You can still roleplay, and it's still a fully functional RPG, but the combat is its forte. It sports a better systemic balance than any other edition of D&D, ensuring that the disparity between player characters is relatively small, and also has extensive tools and advice for GMs.
5e is a lighter, more streamlined game, drawing back from 4e's focus to try and embrace a broader idea of what D&D is/could be. In doing so it opens itself up to more mechanical flaws and disparity between options, but the rules are lighter and thus easier to work around/ignore for certain styles of play. For a lot of people, 5e is more like 'real' D&D.
I actually saw this described really interestingly in a thread recently, and I thought it made a lot of sense.
4e and 5e were both inspired by how D&D 3.5/Pathfinder. 4e took what 3.PF became, how it was used and seen in the community, and focused on making it work. 5e instead took what people thought what 3.PF was meant to be, and make it less of a hassle to play it that way.
Neither are bad games. I prefer 4e, but I'm a person who enjoys engaging in the mechanics side of things along with roleplaying. It's all about your preferences and what your group are interested in.
>>51888385
4e is a dead game and the combat is a fucking chore.
Play 5e, faggot.

When do you concede?
>>51886490
>When do you concede?
When I'm beat, basically. If I realistically have an out, I'll fight on, but if it's clear that I'm dead, I'll scoop. If me scooping fucks things up, I'll clarify that I'm scooping post-whatever, but picking my stuff up now to save time.
FUCK YOUR LANDS
FUCK YOU
Ok, alternative question
What's the most specific hate card you put in a deck and who in your meta forces you to use it
>>51886490
>When do you concede?
I try to play things through most of the time. But when a player goes "Infinite, get a billion mana and cast all of my spells over and over again forever gg" that's the time I concede cause that's fun for exactly one person and I'm not that person.

Being a monster is a job. Low level mooks are minimum wage service industry workers. Lt.s are frustrated/incompetent middle management and boss fights are totally detached corporate owners.

Dragons can breed with anything.
Celestials can breed with anything.
Infernals can breed with anything.
Start mixing.
Dragon Slime.
Celestrial Owlbear.
Infernal Marmoset.
Its kinda basic but if you are creative you can think of something. Hell, if you want homebrew something.
