My players are investigators, much like those in Ghost in the Shell only less powerful and less cyborg. Majoroty of the gameplay is going to be them solving crimes and pulling strings for info. I am going to use 70 Points for the attributes and 40 for professional skills. Now what I don't know is how much money should I give the, considering they are cool and all.
70 points is a hell of a lot, especially if you're trying to make them have to pull strings. I'd recommend 65 at most - I'm currently playing in a gutterpunk 55 point chargen and it definitely feels more rewarding to me as a player.
As far as cash is concerned, if you want them to be marginally outfitted at start give them double what the book starts them as. Still rolling for unemployment, etc - but it'd give them a little more of a boost at start.
anyone got a pdf of it?
http://www.mediafire.com/file/r5zp80d36y89qs5/Cyberpunk_2020_-_Rulebook%2C_2nd_Ed.pdf
Bookmarked and ready to go. I can probably provide any other sourcebooks as needed.
Are shade paints like Nuln Oil really necessary for painting your miniatures? Or they just something extra, like if you want to make them cooler?
They are an easy way to make detail more pronounced, you could do it with normal acrylics but its a pain in the arse

Do you know of any good/cheap paints that aren't from games workshop?
If you're setting up a supernatural mystery / horror campaign, how do you make characters that wouldn't just run from the freakiness at the first sight of it?
In these kinds of campaigns, it's often that the main characters are forced to confront the mystery - whether it's because it's their job, or the horror is hunting them, or whatever - but I'm getting tired of having to corner the characters in order to get them to in the story. In addition, it means that for characters who are civilians being forced into it, it'd make sense for them to run the FIRST opportunity they get, right?
I was considering having my character have trauma / PTSD from a supernatural event in the past, and so they have an emotional tie to the mystery, seeing it as a way to 'resolve' the questions and loss they couldn't take care of in the past.
Any other ideas? If it helps, my character's going to be a forest ranger.

I mean, horror films and TV are full of people who when exposed to something creepy or scary they keep delving into it anyway. Look at Mulder and Scully, for example. Neither of them are "broken" in the sense they have mental illnesses blocking their fight or flight reflexes, they're just naturally curious or invested in breaking the mystery. They really only turn tail and flee when they're going up against something which directly threatens them.
You don't need to jump through a shit load of hoops to justify why your character is ballsy enough to hang out in the haunted house for longer than ten minutes.
With RPGs in that kind of genre (and a lot of other genres, frankly) you need to obey the genre conventions for things to make sense. Make characters with that in mind and ensure everyone is on the same page, because the worst thing in that sort of game is someone who didn't get the memo and suddenly does something that completely breaks the tone of the game.
>>51933797
Maybe they could have someone they're trying to rescue or meet up with to get the information they need to stop the spooks from happening ever again.

You guys need your own thread. That said, no need, as when new splats and books start to roll out, there will be more even representation.
>players are starting a new campaign, no one has played in a while
>make a super basic dungeon for them to go through with a few minor traps
>place a skeleton near one of the traps, meant to be a warning ("what caused him to die?")
>instead of searching it, one player pokes it with a pole
>nothing happens, so he tries to ride it
>???
>nothing happens because it's just a fucking skeleton
>spends 10 minutes fucking around with the skeleton
>the entire time, keep saying it's literally just a skeleton
>gets mad at me when nothing happens
Did I do something wrong? Should I have made the skeleton dance or some shit?
>>51943811
Given them what they wanted i.e. a skeleton fight.
>>51943811
This is when you're supposed to improvise.
The most obvious thing would be to have the skeleton attack, but it's too simple.
Maybe describe that they find a clue on the skeleton's body. A strange key with a recognizable insignia for a chest that they will find further in the dungeon. A diary. Anything that will distract them from the skeleton.
Maybe whatever is inside the dungeon rushes out and attacks while the characters are distracted. Perhaps several starved rats or a weak swarm.
>>51943811
You gotta be adaptable man.
The whole point is to have fun not to enjoy your dungeon.
Should have just went along with it.
Riding that skeleton then something weird happening could have been one of those funny stories you and the guys reminisce about later down the line.

It's Monday, so time for news, what new releases look good to you, any new stores open nearby, what'd you play? Any projects you're working on?

I think blood rage was a stupid game but i think rising sun looks pretty cool desu
Looked into Millennium Blades and it looks pretty legit
I really don't wanna buy it at 80 + shipping though, because I don't think anyone in my group would wanna play it more than once
>>51932238
I know that feel anon, sometimes you buy a game and it just sits, only solution I've found is smaller/local cons where I run the game and hope people sign up.

What spells and feats should I take if I'm making an Arcane Trickster?
Thinking of making a Bugbear Kensai. Weapon choice I was thinking of taking Lance, Greatsword and Longbow but I'm not sure. I'm only taking Greatswords because magic ones seem pretty common.
Also do my Unarmed Attacks get the reach bonus ?
Should I take Crossbow expert at 4 and Sharpshooter at 6, or the ASI instead in place of one of them (I have +3 to dex)
Alright guys, let's talk anything L5R.
I'm about to start putting together my own campaign, first time GM here, and any advice on story building and GMing would be appreciated!
I've been a player in a lot of different games over the years, DnD, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulu, and L5R. I've never been able to GM before now. What have your experiences been like?
I posted in the last one and got no reply, so here's one bump.
About those covers.
Why it that so katanas are always depicted extremely truthfully, never venturing into shitty "fantasy aesthetics" teritorry while swords of every single other culture than japanese are usually turned into overdone, oversized, cartoonish caricatures?
How does japan have such immunity?
>>51933324
>Why it that so katanas are always depicted extremely truthfully[?]
1. the image of the katana has entered pop culture in a recognisable form.
2. they aren't.

How do politics in dnd, and how do I get my players involved?
>>51941689
We're gonna build a wall around the town and make the Orcs pay for it.
>>51941689
D&D doesn't really do politics well because the nature of PC class characters and magic is such that, generally speaking, their very existence breaks the idea of almost every political system that ever existed in the real world.
The only form of government that really makes sense in D&D is a Mage Oligarchy or some kind of Autocracy run by a God-King who's really just a high level wizard or bard or cleric. Or maybe he's actually a god.
For games with strong political themes you either need a very disciplined group who can suspend their disbelief (not bad things at all, in fact D&D groups tend to be pretty good at this once they've been playing together for a while) or you need to play a game whose mechanics support that sort of thing.
Personally my favorite games for this sort of thing are Cyberpunk 2020 and The Riddle of Steel, but obviously you can make it work with GURPS, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk 2020, etc.
As for getting the players involved, it helps for them to have something to latch on to. It has to be something understandable to them, not everyone is a polsci major. It also helps a LOT if you're not doing modern politics. Modern politics are really depressing when you look under the hood, medieval politics just get cooler.

You'd probably pee on them.

It's alright. Death's Shadow is showing up a lot but I think the meta and players can adjust. I'm sure someone will complain that blue control isn't the number one deck as always though

Anybody have some good monster collections?
I've got Volo's, the Monster Manual, Tome of Beasts, and 5th Edition Foes.
5th Edition Foes in particular was amazing, I love the ecology section, it helped make adding the monsters into the world pretty smooth, since I know how they're supposed to live/act.
/tg/, how would you expect mages to integrate into a nation’s armed forces? Not just modern, but at every point of history. How do you think that they’d be used in, say, a Napoleonic army, or as part of a modern army, or even as part of a rebellion?
Personally, I have always seen mages as the officers in a pre-modern military force, where skill at magic is what noble birth was, with the difference that, unlike aristocrats, mages can be useful. As for later forces, I see them acting as combination artillery and engineering troops, able to tear apart buildings with the fury of an angry god, and to shape the battlefield however they like through earthmoving spells and exploding sigils. Meanwhile, I can also see them as making horrifyingly good insurgents and terrorists; we all know the old anecdote of the D&D group made up of a wizard and four spearmen, but just replace the four spearmen with stealth training and a few kilos of high explosives and preshaped shrapnel casing hooked up to a dead-man’s switch heart rate monitor.

Literally Johnathan Strange and Mister Norell
>>51936150
Was coming here to post this.
The book also has a really interesting idea of magic in warfare, too. It's not doing little tricks on the battlefield, but feats of deception and logistics.
Summoning roads through rough terrain that your troops can walk on, dispelling them behind you to deny them to your enemy, or using illusions to confuse the enemy as to the number and location of your forces.
What is the most retarded curse ever and why is it "The Curse of Immortality"?
>>51935568
It's not retarded in this case.
I guess immortality could be seen as a curse if it doesn't come with the eternal youth or healing component, but most "who wants to live forever" talk just comes off as sour grapes to me
>>51935568
Immortality is a curse tho.
Literally everything you and your ancestors once found meaningful in life only exist on a limited time scale. Once you go beyond that, you are no longer human.
What sort of changes would you make to the standard D&D formula to make a Zelda campaign?
I'm thinking of running one.
>>51934045
D&D is emphasized on combat and Zelda is emphasized on puzzles and environmental obstacles. Mobs in Zelda games tend to die in one hit and are more of a nuisance, with the exception being bosses and mini bosses.
Link is also allowed to have a lot of cool things and martials in D&D aren't allowed to have cool things.
>>51934045
A shit tonne of weird magical items and travel between two worlds.
>>51934045
D&D wouldn't work for a Zelda campaign, and I would risk saying that Zelda doesn't work as a RPG campaign.
