Why did the M14, despite being an effective weapon, fail so hard in the role it was intended for?

Heavy as fuck to haul around all day. Long as shit barrel that gets caught in everything. Original full auto was hard to control and stay on target partly because of sight picture being designed for more accurate shots. Over it was fine in its role just the place they decided to test required everything it was bad at.
>>
>>34323381

The M14 is super fucking heavy and it was wildly uncontrollable when fired on full-auto. Carrying a heavy ass rifle optimized for 500+ yard ranges in a hot jungle where the average engagement is going to be from 0 - 200 yards is a shitty deal. And for actual situations where 500+ yard shots were needed, the M14 still wasn't a great rifle. The M14 was found to be entirely unsuitable as a sniper's weapon, and every attempt to cram it into that role has produced unsatisfactory results. Everybody is happy that the M110 has finally replaced the M14 as the standard designated marksman weapon.

Name a better round for a snub-nose. The shit is perfect for a compact carry gun.
57 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
I actually agree. If I remember correctly, NYPD used it for years and when Theodore Roosevelt was police commissioner he wholeheartedly endorsed it as a very superior round for accuracy. I've found the same in my limited experience.

Remember, though, we live in a world of caliber religions, where some folks seem to think that there is a vast superiority of their chosen round over all others. No doubt .32 S&W Long isn't going to stack up in ballistics tests against 9mm or .45. But is it an effective round nevertheless? I think so.
>>
>>34323051
.327 federal magnum is objectively better

I wish more revolvers where chambered in it
I believe you can also fit .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 Colt, .32 New Colt, and finally .32 H&R magnum

>A plane carrying Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was buzzed by a NATO F-16 fighter jet as it flew over the Baltic Sea, but was seen off by a Russian Sukhoi-27 military jet.

>The F-16 had tried to approach the aircraft carrying the defense minister even though it was flying over neutral waters. Shoigu was reported to be en route to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad for a meeting to discuss how well Russia's western flank was defended.

>One of the Russian fighter jets escorting Shoigu's plane had inserted itself between the defense minister's plane and the NATO fighter and tilted its wings from side to side to show the weapons it was carrying, after which the F-16 left the area.

I'm curious, what are the alternatives to the AR-15 that /k/ would recommend? Say you live in a ban state, or you just want a 223/556 that isn't an AR clone. What would you go for?

I'm thinking of getting a Kel Tec SU-16. It's got good reviews, and I won't be using it for anything other than target shooting. I'm also debating getting a mini 14, but the fact it doesn't take AR magazines is a real bummer.

Thoughts?

Most states ban shit by name and feature, meaning you can still generally buy whatever you want. You just have to machine a bullet button or whatever the fuck gimmick is telling Cuomo to go fuck himself.

As of June 1st:
>Dear valued customers,
We had some MDR parts come in out of specification which have to been send back for rework. The rework is expected to complete sometime between June 10 and June 23. So yes the MDR shipments are delayed again. We know this is another delay that everyone is tired of hearing about but I promised you that you would have the latest information every month so that is where we are at.

Can anyone give me a sample of how CAS/artillery gets called in? Like what the radioman on the ground would say over the radio to order a strike.
82 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
Simple way of putting it is "CAS callsign" this is "yourcallsign" request support or fire mission over" then it would be "your callsign" this is "CAS callsign" grid over " then you'd send grid or target designation then what happens next is pure magic

Probably not, it's a lot of powder waste for something that only gets used inside of 300m. I'm sure it's been tested, military's aren't dumb, we are using the rounds that we are for a reason.
