Can anyone give me a sample of how CAS/artillery gets called in? Like what the radioman on the ground would say over the radio to order a strike.
>>
Simple way of putting it is "CAS callsign" this is "yourcallsign" request support or fire mission over" then it would be "your callsign" this is "CAS callsign" grid over " then you'd send grid or target designation then what happens next is pure magic
>>
>>34319645
Look up 9 line Artillery/ air strike.
>>
>>34319659
^^ or you could just do that and spare having to post
>>
>[Callsign] [other callsign]
[Other callsign] send traffic [callsign]
>request [munition/strike package] on grid square [grid square]

If artillery
>1 round HE [or other munition type] on [coordinates] (if danger close the spotter will request a long round, meaning he wants the first round to be a few hundred meters behind the target, and then walk the rounds in from there)
(Round falls, spotter will correct if necessary, once a round is on target he will request more rounds on previous fire mission)
>on target, repeat last fire mission times 5

If close air
>target is the L shaped building north of the trees, attack from east to west, friendly forces danger close, south of the orange smoke, say again danger close
>>
>>34319645
Something like this

"This is 'big penis' requesting close air support! I don't have time for that you bastards! Just bomb the shit out of everything near my position! Look, god damn it, the moderate rebels have us surrounded! We are all gonna die unless you can plaster this place with napalm or something! Fuck! What do you mean we don't have an air force! I thought we were the Islamic State! Oh shit!!! Aluhu Ak.............."

"Sir we have just lost contact with 'Big Penis'."

"So 'Big Penis' is cut off? and maybe destroyed? We will have to send in 'Small Penis' to try to penetrate the enemy lines. I doubt they will make much of an impact though. If 'Big Penis' couldn't smash through that perimeter."

"Sorry sir, I can't think with all this gay innuendo. I need a goat, stat."

>This is just one example. It could be different for other nations which posses an actual air force
>>
>>34319666
> not looking this shit up in the first place.

This is a long video, and it's >>>/v/, but it's a highly realistic game, as is even officially used by the US military to train troops. Many of the guys playing in this session are ex-mil, so it will give you a close approximation to what FAC/ATC sounds like on the ground. Hope this helps.

>>34319659
This. This is how CAS strikes get called in. Every time. Certain lines are required to be read back from the strike platform. Depending on scenario, from 9 line receipt to bombs on target is generally 5-10 minutes.
>>
>>34319775
Pic didn't load.
>>
>>34319775
Often times you don't have aircraft on station to deliver ordnance. If you do have aircraft on station minimum delivery time is between 5-10 minutes, but very often longer.

However if you are in artillery range you can get rounds on target in 1-2 minutes.
>>

pretty accurate mate, problem is a lot of insurgents will fire & manoeuvre like you wouldn't believe, meaning helicopters are the only usable support units because they stay on task & don't require a 5 min set up.

Arty was only ever used in offensive operations or in pre designated fire packages.

Air strikes were only used in offensive operations or where we were providing eyes on for someone they wanted dead. Otherwise a low supersonic boom would be enough to get them to fuck off.

During 07 we started to receive EXACTOR support which was fucking excellent, they could fire it and we could switch on a designator and it could drop a precision guided missile in 2 mins flat.

This is an actual fires mission. Sometimes there are predesignated fires for the mission being conducted and the FO/JTAC/whatever can just call for the fires designation.

there are min safe distances depending on the ordnance, be it arty or a 2000 lb bomb.

500 meters at 181 degrees over

BRDM destroyed, 6 casualties, whiskey 2 out

that's what they taught us at the 19D school for artillery, it's really as easy as reading a script, but you should note that it will be a different script with every fire control center for obvious reasons

but yeah, it's a script you read. it's really harder to put the fucking ASIP radio together than it is to call out arty

No, mils. As in 6400mils equals 360deg and not 2*pi.
Not US tho.
I know russians use a less precise system with 6000 mils, but this is universally used here for all the army except for jtac work.
>>
>>34322110
I was joking about using radians.
>>
>>34322110
Well, to be fair, its "actually" 6300, but the US dumbed it down to 6400. As in, one milliradian is one thousand of a radian.

I've seen video of counter fire from arty. The CBR tracked a mortar on the back of technical and less than a minute later a 155 landed on the side of the truck.

It gets used as support but I guess it's more mission specific than requesting immediate suppression.
