Turn off power to pump.

Go buy a slip ring fix. Or use 4 90Degrees and put it back together.

Dont do this. When my grandfather was renovating the house I am currently in he evidently did not have any straight pipe.

Everthing is 90s.

It has gotten clogged a few times, first time grandpa fixed it with a slow flow basin. This worked fine for 20 years until when I moved in.

>90s errywhere
>small diameter pipe
>rusted too much to fit the snakes
>100ft snake wouldnt reach

Have started cutting out the 90s and going straight. Plumber I called in when I didnt have time the first time it happened told me he does work across three counties and asked if he could take pictures for his wall of shame.

Can we have a thread for things we hate about architecture or design? Maybe things that aren't even necessarily bad, but that we're sick of looking at.

I hate this sort of home. I'm not opposed to modernity, but this sort of boxy-looking, all white and all windows house looks terrible to me.

I also hate Miami though, so there is that.

I'm kind of sick of seeing 50 TV's displaying pointless shit when I walk into an establishment. Bonus points when the company/building brags about how "green" they are when they leave the 50 TV's on 24/7.

I live in a country that has polymer bank notes. I want to bury a lot of them. What would be the best way to do this? I assume I don't need to protect them from moisture like I would if they were paper/cotton notes.

I suggest using gold instead of notes. Holds value much better. Other than that, it really depends on how long you want to keep them in the ground.

Put bank notes in ziploc baggie, baggie into plastic case like a tool kit. Maybe a bit of marine silicone sealant applied around lid seam?

Assuming i put a 1 inch go kart axle and a 4 wheeler front end on this will my 260 pound Amerifat ass be able to ride accross the lake or am I gonna drown?

Either way i will have a buddy tape it and post the outcome if I am kill.

Not sure of total weight here but tires are 33"-12.50" on 8 or 10 inch rims.

I may run some thin glavanized conduit pipe under it with a bunch of pool noodles to help buoyancy if need be.

Any thoughts?

I don't think that motor won't be enough, how many horses does it put to the wheels? And you could try replacing the front wheel with a skid if that helps, but you'd have to make a wheeled sled to put on it to get up to speed on land.
>>
>>1139300
This is ridiculous. You're not displacing much water at all, and you're heavy. You will sink.

You'd be better off with 2-4 drums lashed to the sides rather than pool noodles.
>>
Youre going to have a lot of rolling resistance. Then when/if you get it up to speed, you brakes will have a lot of momentum to fight.

Hey all, I've only got approximately $70,000 saved up total, but I want to try to buy some real estate with property (preferably damaged property so I can buy it cheap and fix it up) and then rent it out to tenants as an investment. I live on Long Island and if theres anybody on this board familiar with the cheapest real estate areas in New York, let me know so that I can begin searching. Also, is there a website where I can look into foreclosed homes or homes currently bought out by the bank? I'd like to get started as soon as possible so my first objective is to buy a work truck and stock it up with tools and supplies. I've started on backpage.com, but all the property thats listed on Long Island is at least a half million dollars.

Craigslist, maybe. Paying a real state agent is the best you can do if you can contract a cheap one you can trust.
>>
>>1138703
This. You might find property with existing tenants.
>>
>>1138693
You're gonna go broke fixing it.

Not doubting your /diy/ skills but renovating takes a while, by that time you could've bought something decent and started renting it asap.

Is there anything to stop someone from going out and claiming an abandoned offshore platform in international waters other than the extreme inconvenience of staying there?

Nope, that's exactly what pic related was.
>>
I would, but there is so much to look into.

1: Is it owned by someone?
2: Wear and Tear, damage.

Wear and Tear will be the major one because its going to cost a lot to fix plus the cost of getting supplies and material shipped to it.

S FL here. Have a window AC unit that I use to cool / dehumidfy my 20x20 attached garage. City has asked me to remove it; window / through wall AC are code restricted in my city come to find out.

Unit's around 8,000 BTU and barely keeps up in summer, but it's enough for getting garage comfortable enough in summer... if I need to replace with fixed unit, I'd probably go ~12,000 BTU which is closer to proper size.

I've considered pulling the unit inside garage and making a sheet metal "shroud" to the window. This would allow AC to dump hot air outside, and would make unit flush to window. I'd paint outside condensor flat black and put a screen over it. I've room to do this in garage. Main concern is that city would just write it up again.

Any other options I should consider?

1) Move far away from where you currently reside.
2) Get a heat pump, far more efficient to run.

Naw, I dig S FL, though agree out in country this particular thing would not be an issue.

Looks like I need a mini-split system, which is just a tiny version of what cools the house.

what happens if you dont do anything?

I got a coffee table comparable to pic related. The top is perfectly rectangular and flat. I want to put some photos on the table and put a flat glass plate on top. Now I got two questions:

How would I fixate the glass plate? I want it to be detachable so you can easily exchange the photos. I thought about the kind of clips you use to assemble frameless picture frames or clip frames. But they just usually go to a thickness of ~10mm, and tabletop and glass plate together are ~36mm.

Can you put cups with hot beverages on glass plates? If not, are common coasters enough to keep the glass safe?

Don't use clips, if the table is level the glass should stay easily, if you want a little more stay grab a hot glue gun, put a little dot of hot glue at each corner of the glass, let it dry on just the glass. The hot glue rubbery dots will act as little friction pads
>Can you put cups with hot beverages on glass plates? If not, are common coasters enough to keep the glass safe?
Yes. Common coasters are fine

But you don't want normal plate glass, go to your local Glasser and special order a tempered sheet the size of your table you alternatively can specify "furniture glass" but some glasser's don't recognize that distinction

Generally speaking furniture glass is just tempered glass, has decent thermal shock resistance etc.

Looking at a used paf430-1. How are they figuring 4HP? The electrical ratings are only 1800W tops. Or is it just marketing wank?

Well I mean its a 30 gallon air compressor. Didn't think it was out of the realm of possibility.

Plus its from devilbiss so I wasn't going to immediately conclude that they're just outright lying.

So I'm cleaning my parents basement and I discover this rug. Long story short it's been in the garage for three years, and is drenched with cat and dog piss and shit. Should I try and salvage it and get it cleaned or just chuck it? Supposedly was 1200$. Thanks guises.

I'd try to salvage it, but I don't know much about carpets, anyway.

I wouldn't. The chemicals in urine and decomposition of shit would have broken down large amounts of fibers.

So, my truck has been parked up all winter.
I start it every other week to keep the battery topped up but I dont move it.
The clutch was nice and crisp before I put it away.

Yesterday the weather was good enough for a drive.
But as I put my foot on the clutch while I was waiting for the glowplugs to heat up, my foot went right down to the floor.

There is no resistance in the clutch pedal whatsoever.
It does not feel soft or spongey. It feels like its not connected to anything except a small return spring.
At no point does it actually disengage and I cant get it in gear while the engine is on.

The pedal springs back easily though. It doesn't remain on the floor.

It feels like a cable snapped, but when I inspect the pedal, I see no cables.
Only a rod going into the top of what looks like a master cylinder so its obviously hydraulic not a mechanical system.
The master itself is somewhere outside the cabin and I can't locate it to inspect it properly at the moment.
I can also see a slave cylinder on the transmission as well.

I was not able to physically inspect either slave or master cylinders for oil residue.

The fluids in the brake reservoir were are a bit low so I topped it up.
No change. And also no air bubbles when pushing the pedal down or anything like that.

Any ideas?

>>
your reservoir should be on your firewall, check if it's low would be the first thing, you'll probably have to bleed it if it has an airlock.

best to check that for leaks before you do anything else, it's pretty much gonna be that..
>>
>>1139519
>my truck
that certainly narrows it down
>>
>>1139519

That reeks of a fluid leak in the clutch hydraulics. As has been pointed out, check the clutch reservoir. If it's empty, odds are you had a leak and it dumped all the fluid out.

Just hope it isn't like mine, where it's a "sealed assembly" and almost impossible to do anything with.
