I often hear about about how NTSC has faster music and gameplay and PAL has better pixel quality but what games (and systems) do you think the negative worked better for? i.e. slower music in certain sonic stages on the PAL cartridge or a more blurred/less defined shadows in horror games on NTSC carts.
>better pixel quality
LOL
I personally prefer some of the music tracks in the PAL version of Sonic the Hedgehog to the NTSC versions.
>PAL has better pixel quality
Wtf is "pixel quality"?
Can you idiots not make shit up? PAL is trash.
What's the best portable NES around?
On my dream list:
>no batteries
>backlighted screen
>optional tv support
>famicom compatible
>>2962924
Why not just get a psp? If you can get a hardware clone with a built in flashdrive so you don't have to carry around bulky cartidges I would considrr buying one, but to mee it seems there are too many drawbacks
>>2962924
it's not going to be very portable if there are no batteries
>>2962924
>>no batteries
It's not going to be very portable then.
God-tier console mods
this looks like shit
that looks really stupid
A bunch of folded up copper? Why so steampunk...
Something that seems to be missing largely from modern games is memorable and iconic sound tracks.

One of the reasons why, I suppose, is this obsession with trying to make Hollywood orchestral soundtracks. People praise and love it when the game is released, but if you ask them to hum a song of the game 2 or 3 weeks later, they will barely be able to remember anything.

I never heard the ost to this game. That is pretty rad.
My favourite soundtrack on the SNES:

Why was Ness in A boy and his Blob?
David Crane can't draw people. I mean, with Pitfall you could at least argue that it was an Atari and limited as fuck, but Boy animated almost completely the same. That looks much better, depending on how it animates.
I remember buying this game from Funcoland when I was like eight or nine. Was sitting there trying to decide between this or SMB 3 and ended up trading in Ducktails for this. I remember my dad saying that this would be better to get because I wasn't overly familiar with it like I was with SMB 3. I ended up being very disappointed with the game, but looking back it's a pretty interesting and innovative game. It's almost like a graphic adventure with the sort of almost puzzle solving type of stuff with the various jelly beans. I just wish there was more areas and variety to it.

But what he can do is some beautiful detailed sprite animation. Maybe his version of the Boy looks atari-tier, but he moves great. Look at a video of the japanese version and you can see how off the animation looks when they suddenly apply that giant cartoon torso atop a sprite that was made with generally realistic proportions. Kid moves his legs like he's wearing a tight skirt that goes down to the knees.

Which game do you prefer? Any hopes for SS3?
how are there always system shock threads?
is the game that interesting?
>>2960667
Depends, do you like labyrinthine early 2.5D sci-fi FPS adventure games with heavy narration?
>>2960672
mmm... sounds okay. it just seems like another game that didn't get much press like how we have snatcher threads all the time so it makes me curious.
Revisionist history. when those truly awful unliked unloved unplayed games are suddenly 'hidden gems' 'unknown master pieces' 'top 20 snes games YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED!'.
spare me. awful games are still awful games. E.V.O from Enix is an example of this.
Revisionist history, when games notorious for being piles of trash are in fact critically acclaimed masterpieces.
I don't really care for "hidden gem lists" from youtube and the like, but I actually liked E.V.O.
Not the best game I ever played but it was decently fun, the idea of evolving and how it was implemented was unique, and I liked the overall art direction and feel of the game. But I'm not gonna force anyone into liking it, if you didn't like it, then I'm OK with that. Or rather, I don't care.
I wish the actual cart wasn't so prohibitively expensive.

Pirated games thread. Any system is welcome, though it seems that the Famicom gets the most out of all of them.

Oh god, I knew Kaneko was sexually provocative but this is ridiculous.
>>2960224
Who is Kaneko?
Let's talk about the old Dragon Ball (Z) games here. Who's your favorite fighter and villain?
Also, who was really to blame for Cell becoming perfect and absorbing 18? Krillin or Vegeta?
Oh, and which Saga did you enjoy the most?

Same here.

Honestly? The amount of good DBZ games is in the single digits, most of them on the PS2.
Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 2 are firmly at the top.
Japanese Thread, talk about your quest to learn a bizarre foreign language so you can better experience 20-year old children's novelties.
Been poking around in more games and finding more stuff I can read as I progress in kanji, but now I find grammar to be tripping me up a lot. Is there a good grammar resource to check out?
Sorry, OP, but this is a topic for >>>/jp/

I would normally agree, but their threads on the matter are abysmal. I've seen much better come out of /vr/ in the past.
Have you read Tae Kim?
I like Nintendo as much as the next guy,
heck I even think that the SNES was one of best of it's time.
But the N64 was kinda shitty in comparison
>Loss of RPG support
>had many "samey" platformers
>still used cartridges
>controller was a clusterfuck
>1st party games are the only things worth playing
> all of the 3D models looked horrible (technology was limited, but many titles on the PS1 utilized hybridization of 2D/3D for better results, ie, Chrono Cross)
>limited library
What are your sentiments on this?
People are only nostalgic because it was their first console,
I was playing NES when I was 3 years fucking old, and I don't nostalgia over that.
4/10

As in not politically correct.
Was Sonic 3D Blast an objectively good game?
I love the franchise a lot, but this game - not so much. The floaty controls and camera movements gave me nausea and headaches as a kid, so I'm having a hard time trying to play it again now that I'm older.
With that said, the art is nice and the music great, for both the Megadrive and the Saturn versions. I do enjoy the Saturn special stages a lot.
The maneuvering took some getting used to, but I enjoyed it. I would actually count it as my favorite Sonic title from the Genesis / MD era. S3&K was great, but that whole formula had already peaked with Sonic 2. I mean, if you've played one side-scrolling platformer, you've basically played them all. It's nice to have an occasional sequel that takes the series in a different direction.
>>2957221
The faux-3d was awful. It would've been ok if it controlled in a tight manner like Mario. Very cool boss fights though
