An FPS RPG in the Doom engine from '96? Why has this game eluded me for so long?
Because you're nobody important.
>>2944594
Less about that, more about the game.
I never played this back in the day, as I was not a fan of games with backtracking like Hexen.
However, after giving the Veteran Edition a shot, it's one of my favourite FPS games. I dig the Veteran Edition for having a marker for your current objective to prevent shit like Hexen
What's your favorite pirated/bootleg retro game. NES, SNES, GB/GBC/GBA or whatever.

deng xiaoping did nothing wrong
Kart Fighter was one of the first pirate carts I came across and it's pretty fun imo.

This is pretty good, shame about those clipping sprites.
"You may see symbols above enemies in the battle sequences.
These mean that the enemy can make you dizzy, put you to sleep, or call in some reinforcements." -Russ T.
Why does he say this? There are no symbols above enemies unless they're inflicted with a status effect. Just to be sure, I looked at a Dark Koopa, a Crazee Dayzee, and a Groove Guy, but there are no symbols.
Is this a scrapped feature? A translation error maybe?
Must be a scrapped feature that had that text written for it before being taken out.

Paper Mario thread?
How about the news that a new one is coming to Wii U? Maybe this time it will be the successor to theworthy franchise sequel to SMRPG, unlike Mario and Luigi.
>>2944478>unlike Mario and Luigi
SSS was good and BIS was okay. Didn't play DT but I've heard it was alright. I'd say it's a worthy successor, but that's probably just because I don't think very highly of SMRPG(it's a great game, but nothing too spectacular in my opinion). M&L isn't as good as traditional Paper Mario, but it's not bad.
>a new Paper Mario
I want Miyamoto to stop using Paper Mario as a lab rat. A large majority of Paper Mario fans want something similar to the first two, and even IS seem to think it would be a good idea to return to the classic formula. Why does Paper Mario have to suffer so much due to Miyamoto's obsession with experimentation?
After two lackluster games, it's obvious to anyone, right? That's my hope. If it's good I will buy a Wii U for it(or an NX if it has backwards compatibility).

I was wondering since ALWAYS, what is this thing on Liu's chest on his MK1 select character picture. Even on the HD picture it doesn't resemble anything... WHAT IS THIS?
>>2947181
The hand
>>2947203
But HOW? If it's a hand then what is the dark thing? He doesnt have wristbands in MK1.
>>2947207
>what is the dark thing
The shadow on the palm/fingers
I fucking love platformers. Can't get enough of hopping and collecting. Want to talk about them and get recommendations for ones I haven't played.
Pic related, what I'm playing and I'm surprised isn't bad.
>>2946986
>platformers
Boring.
Next thread please.
>>2946995
>you can't talk about a retro game genre if I don't like it!
Fuck off.
Here's a good platformer that isn't talked about too often. The music is great, there's an on-the-spot character switch feature, a plot-important missable weapon, and it actually provides some hint on how the series would've ended. I fucking loved this game.
Note this is the Genesis version of Pirates of Dark Water. The SNES version is your standard beat em up.

Boring.
Next thread please.
You didn't even bother trying to start an actual discussion.

It could only do 2D.
It was a 4th-gen console marketed as a 5th-gen one. Kinda like the Wii of its day. It was supposed to come out a bit earlier than it ended up being (I think around 1991 or '92), but the PC Engine was still doing strongly in those days.
>>2946670
who cares post ecchi games.
Unless you consider the PC Engine to be 3rd generation, the PC-FX is 5th gen.
Saw this on /vg/ in the nintendo general
apparently some guy made a review on kirby 64, I don't really like reviews that much, but I felt this one was kinda fun.
it's about kirby64, so I mean, Kirby 64 is Retro and shit.
thoughts?
https://youtu.be/LSKdQhrcbuw
oh also Kirby thread I guess, post your favorite retro kirby game
I'm not gonna watch some autist review a game that I played 15 years ago.
Kirby Super Star is still the best game in the series.
>>2943719
does anyone genuinely think that Kirby's nightmare in dreamland is better than Super Star?
I would like to know why
>>2943727
I do. It just feels more concise, Super Star is fun but I was never a big fan of all the segmented bits, I like it better as one cohesive whole. I don't know why you named the GBA remake instead of Adventure but I do think the remake is better anyway, as amazing as Adventure was for its hardware.
I fucking love light gun games. Probably one of the biggest losses to the world now that CRTs are dead, there's nothing like making a leaf shot in Point Blank.
LCD based solutions are all awful, both in the arcades and at home. The latency added makes snap shooting pretty difficult, and home solutions require you to both stand in the perfect position, and the sights aren't remotely accurate.
At least it's still relatively easy to play the console ports.

I haven't played 3 in over a decade, despite it easily being my favorite. I really fucking hope the Xbox emulator goes somewhere, given my only other option is waiting for a debug console to go on sale.
>>2941327
My favorites
>Area 51
Played the absolute shit of this in the arcade
>House of the Dead 2
Same thing, tons of quarters on this one.
>Silent Scope
My brother and I loved playing this because we watched a shitload of enemy at the gates. Felt really cool, my parents even got us the Xbox version with the stupid sniper rifle.
>Not Retro
The resident evil survivor series is actually really good. Dino Stalker has the standard on rails levels but also lets you move through a 3D environment, same with Dead Aim. The original PS1 one was kind of sucky becuase it doesn't have lightgun support in NA. Fucking faggots in Columbine ruining it for everyone.
Games you played on a whim/only because of the name and what happened from thereon
>Legend of the Mystical Ninja
>Might be cool...
>Haha this is actually fun
>Oh there's a sequel? Japan only?
>Ganbare Goemon...
>Wait a minute, I played this N64 one!
And that's how Ganbare Goemon became one of my favourite series of all time.
Less happy one
>Gods? Might be cool
>Ugh too slow and overly difficult
>No thanks
Sorry Gods fan, just wasn't my thing...
>>2948050
This is such a great series. Konami sadly doesn't try however.
We only got 4 entries from this franchise. Shit, I'm glad they gave us any
>>2948240
I'm pretty sure there's 4 just on the super famicom anon, not counting the n64, msx, famicom...
>>2948258
He's talking about the ones we got in the west in english.
he's forgetting about Sarawareta Ebisumaru, but that one was only released in Europe and in the year 2000 on a GBC compilation cart, the actual game is from 1991.
Should I play it?
>>2946532
Yeah, it's fun.
How has Smuggler's Run aged? Should I play it?
>>2946680
pretty fun with a friend.

It is bothersome.
Why is 3DO sailor moon game missing sailor Saturn?
It is because of Sega Saturn console got full version?
Or do I need cheet code to unlock her?
>>2946506
Sailor Saturn was my favorite after Sailor Jupiter.
Didn't know there was a Sailor Moon game for Saturn, pretty cool.
I'm confused, does this game use drawn sprites or cgi graphics? The only sailor moon I've seen on saturn used cgi.
So we're all agreed that the computer stacks the decks and rigs the coin tosses, right?
Dunno about that, but I remember someone hacked Yugioh Forbidden Memories to show the opponent's cards and found the AI actively cheats by playing cards it didn't have
>>2946113
>we're all agreed
Do you know where you are?
>>2946113
Proofs?
Well hello there, /vr/.
I recently came into possession of all of the US PC Gamer 1999 issues with all of the corresponding CDs (see pic). These issues contain everything from contemporary reviews of Thief and SS2 to GOTY awards for games like Half-Life and Starcraft 1. There's even (retrospectively) hilariously optimistic features on games like Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever. Flipping through the mags and seeing ads for "new" games like Baldur's Gate right beside a preview for Deus Ex is brilliantly surreal. It's a bit of vidya history in one of the best eras ever for PC gaming.
Now that I have them, what should I do with them?
Are there certain articles, ads or features that you've been dying to see?
Do comprehensive scans exist already? Is there a way to preserve them without destroying them?
What other ideas? I'm all ears, /vr/.
>>2942197
Scan and upload them please.
I know nothing of scanning though, so it may damage them.
>>2942232
I want to do this - if no scans exist already - but I have the same issue. I don't know of a way to do so without damaging them.
I'd be interested to see what's on the CDs, I still have the CD from the March 1997 issue laying around but I believe my copy of that issue is long gone
